Rudy Gay opting out
When asked how Fascism starts, Bertrand Russell once said:
"First, they fascinate the fools. Then, they muzzle the intelligent."

Had a feeling Rudy would opt out. Wish him the best.
Damn, Kings have money to spend this offseason.

Re: Rudy Gay opting out
Pretty good news.
But that means, the SF position is wide open.

Re: Rudy Gay opting out
I wonder what team he goes to? This for sure signifies no doubt that the youth movement must go on unobstructed from here.

Re: Rudy Gay opting out
That is what I thought would happen. We are setting up the young group to take the leadership roles with the team. But I still think a few key vets will play roles and get minutes.
For Rudy, I hope he goes to a playoff team like Bos or ATL. Want him to do well.

We may be looking at a 20 win season next year but for the 2-5 year horizon it's the best way. He does not fit the structure and players we have and are trying to develop

I would hope they wouldn't spend the money and take the time to actually develop their young players.
Assuming Gay and Galloway are going to opt out you have:
Code: Select all
Player 2017-18 2018-19
Arron Afflalo $12,500,000
Kosta Koufos $8,393,000 $8,739,500
Garrett Temple $8,000,000 $8,000,000
Anthony Tolliver $8,000,000
Willie Cauley-Stein $3,704,160 $4,696,875
Buddy Hield $3,675,480 $3,833,760
Georgios Papagiannis $2,301,360 $2,400,480
Malachi Richardson $1,504,560 $1,569,360
Skal Labissiere $1,312,611 $1,544,951
Caron Butler $517,220 $517,220
$49,908,391 $31,302,146
You pray that we can grab either Isaac or Tatum in the draft and then Ntilikina.
Then you trade either Tolliver or Koufos for a wing.
Code: Select all
PG Ntilikina Temple
SG Hield Afflalo
SF Isaac/Tatum
PF Labissiere Koufos Tolliver
C Cauley-Stein Papagiannis
You will still need to add players on short (hopefully one year) contracts to get to the minimum or you don't and then during the season you take on trash contracts plus draft picks (like Philly did).

We also own our pick with no strings attached next year.
Good time to stay young.

I thought it was a pick swap next year too? If not then cool.

Nah its all ours without any swap.
So bring on some bad loot in trades if the incentive is all right.

Re: Rudy Gay opting out
So Rudy is cleared to start full training and practicing. Looking like the chances are good he opts out as long as there are no set backs.

Re: Rudy Gay opting out
Funny thing about Rudy, me personally, didn't appreciate his game when he was here if he opts out. Watching the playoffs though, I said more then a few times that the team I was watching could use a guy like Rudy. I hope he does well and I could see him thriving with us if he comes back and he's healthy.

Fantastic that it's official. And they made the right call not to stretch Tollivers money even though that was an easy choice.

Re: Rudy Gay opting out
Perhaps the best part is the return of our inside "can he play SF?' meme.
Anyway, this was probably the best for him and the Kings. A genuine pro and I wish him the best.

His full contract is guaranteed if he isn't waived on draft day. I think we wait to see if we can include him in a trade with someone that wants an expiring regardless of what the goal is, whether getting picks or moving up. It makes sense. 9 days people.
