Here is an off-season that makes us stronger next year and does not require sacrificing the future for the present.

1. Trade Avery Bradley for Richaun Holmes. If need be, sweeten the pot with a non-Brooklyn, non-Memphis future no. 1 pick. Just get it done.
2. Renounce rights to Kelly Olynyk, and all other free agents
These two steps immediately make it possible to offer a max contract to Gordon Hayward
3. Sign Gordon Hayward to a max deal
4. Get Hayward and Isaiah on a jet with Brad and Danny—and maybe Tom Brady—to LA to visit Blake Griffin. Convince him to sign a max deal with the Cs
5. Let Doc know Griffin wants to sign with the Cs, and unless Doc does a sign-and-trade with the Cs for Griffin, Griffin will likely sign with Miami or another team that has capspace and the Clippers will have nothing.
6. Trade Horford and Crowder to the Clips for Griffin, who has signed a max contract
7. This creates a $3.5 million trade exception for the Cs to use

Cs roster/rotation 2017-18

5—Zizic……..Holmes
4—Griffin…..Yabusele
3—Hayward
2—Brown…..Smart
1—Thomas …Fultz

Deep bench:

Abdel Nader
Terry Rozier

That leaves 4 spots open, plus the two G-league guys. These slots can be filled by the three 2nd rounders, street free agents, and/or maybe a couple of Gerald Green type guys on vet minimum contracts. Danny can wheel and deal to round out the roster as need be.

Seems like a stretch to be honest.

Difficult to argue with such impeccable logic.

Why is Doc going to believe us?

Griffin is very injury-prone, not sure he's even better than Horford. He used to be, not sure now

What about this? Even though I can't really imagine Ainge trading Horford right now...

Boston trades: Al Horford, Marcus Smart, Terry Rozier, 2018 BOS pick
Boston receives: Kevin Love

Cleveland trades: Kevin Love, Iman Shumpert, Channing Frye, Richard Jefferson
Cleveland receives: Al Horford, Carmelo Anthony, Marcus Smart via Dunleavy TPE

New York trades: Carmelo Anthony
New York receives: Terry Rozier, Iman Shumpert, Channing Frye, Richard Jefferson, 2018 BOS pick

We upgrades our big man position, while we clear-out enough money to sign both Hayward and renew Olynyk. Plus we have a backcourt clear-out for Fultz.
Cleveland changes Love for two older stars in Melo and Horford to help LeBron, while they get Smart to help Cavs perimeter defence.
New York trades Melo for a pick, two expirings, a decent young player in Rozier and take on Shumpert's bad contract.

Cleveland:
Kyrie/Smart
JR/Smart
Melo/Korver
LeBron/Horford
Horford/Thompson

Boston:
IT/Fultz
AB/Brown
Hayward/Crowder
Love/Yabusele
Zizic/Olynyk

Would improve both teams IMO.

:D The Hayward/Griffin talk is a bit of a stretch - I have a hard time seeing us getting both guys, exactly because we'd have to deal Horford. Technically we can, but trading a player a year after he signs - is there much precedent for that, in any sport?

I could imagine, maybe, some kind of three-team deal where Horford goes to Cleveland, Love to LAC, and Blake to us. But I think we're lucky to get one big free agent- Hayward or Griffin- if they both go somewhere else, we can do better using the cap space to absorb contracts or facilitate trades.

I'd say trading Bradley to draft Tatum and maxing Blake would be a nice outcome. There are others. But it's going to be tough to add more than one guy. The other possibility is that we max Blake or Hayward, then package Avery and Jae for Jimmy Butler or Paul George.

This question has got me thinking this morning... would you entertain a trade involving #1 for Jokić with DEN?

My initial thought was, of course, "no," but it actually would be tempting. Is DEN the one to decline? We would be a Hayward signing away from a stellar starting 5.

I don't watch him enough to say but, go with whoever has the higher ceiling and not with fit or short term success.

I mean, who knows. That would be DEN's enigma to predict: who has the higher ceiling?

Fultz could develop alongside Murray at the 1-2; Jokic would be a fantastic fit next to Horford and is already breaking out.

I knew somebody had to drop this one. It was just set up too perfectly.

No.

Joker is a good rebounder, elite passer, good shooter, but will never anchor an above average defense IMO and is closer to his next contract.

Plus it goes against my whole perimeter players>bigs in todays NBA POV.

Is there a place that offers a prop bet of "Danny Ainge will trade Al Horford 1 year into his Max contract"? Because if so, I will bet BIG money against that happening. At this point, I just skip over trade ideas that start with that. It's not going to happen.

Anyone willing to suggest sign and trade possibilities for Olynyk? One I could see is to Utah for Favors in the last year of his deal. I'm assuming a $15- $18mm a year contract for Kelly.

So if LeBron can convince Paul George to force a move to CAVS which Broussard suggested as a move this morning, and Love is out, I could see Danny trying to get into that trade to get Love. Does Olynyk make any sense there with the right pieces? Bradley, Crowder, Rozier)

I would take Anthony from NY if Porzingis is attached and would be willing to give up multiple non Brooklyn picks and Crowder and Rozier. I'm not sure how to structure it to work but I think Porzingis is a perfect fit next to Horford and I think in Boston we will get Olympics Anthony even if he is aging. Limiting Anthony's minutes in regular season opens up room for Jaylen. Anthony's contract is for 2 years so we get out from it just about when Jaylen should be ready to take over. Porzingis in our system would be lethal and we still have Brooklyn 2018 and Fultz to add to the package and can trade Bradley if we need to.

Some of these trade ideas are hilarious.

Porzingis for Crowder, Rozier and non-Brooklyn picks? Knick's FO isn't that stupid

Horford, Smart and Rozier for Kevin freaking Love?
We'd be stupid to trade Horford one year after signing him, no way Danny does that. Love is the odd man out in Cleveland for a reason. Where was he last night when they got beat?
