Clippers Might Relocate... To Inglewood (UPDATE: And A New Logo To Go With It)

Post#1 » by Wammy Giveaway » Fri Feb 24, 2017 8:29 pm

It's still in L.A., and it honors the no-relocation clause of not leaving L.A. county:

http://www.latimes.com/sports/clippers/la-sp-clippers-ballmer-arena-20170224-story.html

Nathan Fenno and Sam Farmer wrote:Representatives of Steve Ballmer and Stan Kroenke, two of the richest owners in professional sports, have had multiple discussions about the Clippers joining the Rams and Chargers in the sports and entertainment district Kroenke is building in Inglewood.

The Clippers, purchased by Ballmer for $2 billion in 2014, are tenants at Staples Center in L.A. Live. The Lakers and Kings also play in the arena, owned by Anschutz Entertainment Group. While the Clippers’ lease runs through 2024, Ballmer hasn’t hidden the desire for an arena of his own.

Inglewood is one of multiple sites the Clippers are exploring in a process that started more than a year ago. The Clippers aren’t settled on a course of action — staying at Staples Center or building a new arena — but the Inglewood discussions are part of their ongoing evaluation of potential options, according to the five people.

Closer to the Westside would allow me to go to more games. I don't like going downtown at all.

Seriously.. DTLA is starting to become amazing! Its going to sh*t on Hollywood something serious in a couple of years from now. Clipps definitely need their own arena but leaving DTLA might not be a good ideal. Freeway acesss, metro rail a block away, bars, restaurants, clubs, retail(on the way).. not so sure about this one and I live in Inglewood

What Ramona and the mayor aren't factoring in is that the arena wouldn't break ground until the football stadium is already open. Butts is assuming that Ballmer wants to break ground right away.

I'd be fine with the Clippers moving to Inglewood, honestly I'd be fine with them finding a new home in LA. We've been at Staples for awhile, a new exclusive Clipper home would be great.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

I'd rather get a West LA location given the Lakers' history in Inglewood but if we pulled the trigger on this, I wouldn't be bothered by it inbthe least.

I want our own building.
Why not?

I'm so happy to read this! I was worried they might move to Seattle. Better yet I live in the northern part of Inglewood so it will make it easier for me to go to games

I'm hyped! Knowing Ballmer, this arena will make Staples look like Sleep Train Arena by comparison. This also silences all the Sonics and Lakers fans who have been praying for Ballmer to move the team to Seattle. Sorry guys, but we are in LA to stay! :)

Now let's go get Jerry West, fire Doc and keep this positive turnaround going.

Kudos to the LA Clippers man. They've been ran as a 2nd / 3rd class NBA franchise since their inception, and people don't even realize that them being an Actual NBA franchise really began in 2014. So in 4 years, we got an expanded Basketball operations department, a d league team, a new arena, etc. I'm just proud to see the Clippers continuing to take steps to legitimize themselves as a real tier 1 NBA franchise.

Better Than L.A. Live Downtown

I initially had the same reaction as you, but then I realized that we'd be in the same area as what is anticipated to be the greatest sports complex in the world with the Rams' stadium project. I think we're technically beyond the city limits of Los Angeles but not the county, obviously. However, like the Rams, we can still legitimately be the "L.A. Clippers" unlike the Angels of Anaheim.

This real-estate development could potentially eclipse the L.A. Live development in downtown Los Angeles. This would position us as the team of the future if we can continue to build on everything else.

I was always for us playing in our own arena and separating ourselves even more from the Lakers. (although our new arena will be in Inglewood) Well we will be able to hang our own banners if we choose.
