Right.
and being a threat from three helps spacing, people can't sag off of you, fast breaks are harder to defend, etc.
Can we really think of a player who has recently developed a post game? Andrew Bynum, perhaps? Look at how hard we are on Andre. After a season of him receiving touches as a point of emphasis to feed him the ball, we want him to reduce his role and become more of a garbage man and just focus on defense. I don't think the environment is one that is forgiving for a developing post player. Miss 70% of your threes and people will forgive you for working out the kinks, maybe you're in a slump, maybe you're working on your form. Miss 60% of your postup opportunities and you'll be crucified for having no touch. It's strange, and probably illuminates some hypocrisy.

It's related to the efficiency. If you shoot below 50% from the field in easy 2pts shots it's better to have a 33% 3pt shooter. Just maths.

Re: Best Starting 5 of All-Time; For this current era
I understand the math. The percentages I chose were arbitrary and besides the point. Let's imagine that I said 55% of postups were missed so that the EFG% matches up.
What's his face said that it's easier to become 80% of Curry than 80% of McHale, and I'm wondering aloud if that's because there's a shorter leash, less patience, more scrutiny against a player developing his post game.
Shooters (or developing shooters) are encouraged to shoot through slumps but I don't believe that benefit of the doubt applies to big men. If you look at the box score and see a C is 3/10 it's like ah hell we've gotta replace Zaza Pachulia, but if Draymond is 2/10 then keep shooting baby!
Not apples to apples, but I see it happen in pickup ball all the time. IF (capital IF) a big man is fed the ball, it's almost like he has to impress on and make his first shot or he'll never get the goddamn ball again. When it comes to perimeter shooting people there is some leeway unless they airball or completely brick. Miss a layup after a dropstep because you got fouled but not enough to call it? Have fun grabbing long boards as the guards chuck away.
I'd think that young bigs would benefit greatly and wouldn't play so tight or rush things if they weren't subtly terrified of this effect.

If Kareem could guard Wilt, he could guard Shaq.. or any other big for that matter. I think he's clearly the center to pick.
LeBron, I think, is clearly the 4 of choice. No one's ever had his combination of size, strength, athleticism and skill.. or even close to it.
Jordan, I think, is clearly one of your guards.
...
I've read all your posts. My roster is still the same..
Kareem
LeBron
Bird
Jordan
Steph
...Maybe you do better with Kobe > Steph and better defense. Maybe you do better with Hakeem in for Bird (sliding LeBron to the 3) for defensive purposes. But I still like my squad.

Except it's not, because you started with Kobe, then I posted, then you dumped him.

I prefer to actually keep my guys at the position they've always played.
Best at each position all time;
PG-Magic
SG-Jordan
SF-Lebron
PF-Karl Malone
C-Hakeem
2nd team even though you didn't ask for it
PG-my boy Lord Isiah Thomas
SG-Kobe
SF-Bird
PF-Duncan
C-Kareem
3rd team
PG-Stockton
SG-Wade
SF-Durant
PF-Barkley
C-Shaq

Id go with
Magic/MJ/LBJ/Bird/Wilt
The passing on that team would be incredible and you still have the 2 GOAT scorers.

People still putting guys with a lot of troubles from downtown. You CAN'T win nowadays without spacing.

I'd put Curry ahead of both Thomas and Stockton. Stockton never had a scoring mentality and Isiah...eh, Curry's won enough along with his MVPs and his gravity makes his team better without him doing anything. Isiah doesn't do that.

^if Isiah played in this era without handchecking he'd average more points than Curry and 10assists a game to boot.
