Proof that the NBA has footage from the 70's just laying around.

All the way back in 2005 there were reports of the NBA creating a digital archive of all of their content for fans to access:

If the project, which could take as long as six years to complete, goes as planned, fans should be able to get their hands on clips of just about any hoops moment they want, and even create their own personalized video reels.

"We're thinking of making the video available to (fans) so they could edit their own highlight videos and hopefully make them available (in turn) to NBA.com," said Stephen Hellmuth, senior vice president of operations and technology for NBA Entertainment.

The program involves archiving all new footage on a sophisticated digital storage system as well as the painstaking transfer to digital media of nearly 60 years of footage currently stored on aging videotape. It's aimed at making any filmed moment in the league's history accessible to anyone, from coaches to fantasy-league fans.

The NBA won't wait until the whole thing is done, and could start rolling out bits of the project as early as next year, but it's not yet clear how the league will charge for it. Hellmuth speculated that NBA fans could pay for the right to compete to create the best custom highlight reels, which they would upload to NBA.com. He said it was also possible that fans could pay for the right to sift through the archives and create personalized content that they could then burn onto DVDs on their own computers.

Man, Kareem had 38/23/11 game in the playoffs against prime Willis Reed and that awesome Knicks defense, as a rookie. :o Incredible player.

Some guy on reddit claimed that he got an email this year that mentioned the project. So I think that it's still going on to this day. And it seems like the NBA is slowly releasing short snippets of older games in the form of tweets like this, so that's proof that it's still being done, at least in my eyes.

If anyone have full games (other than games 3 and 7) of 1975 ECF (Bulls vs Warriors), please contact with me. I need Bulls footage for my new project.

If they managed to get one hundred big games from each decade from the beginning of the NBA on tape or disc, my wife would probably divorce me I'd be watching them so much.

Anyone have Games 1-7 of the 2013 Finals? Wanting to rewatch that. If anyone has '12 Heat/Pacers or '13 Heat/Celtics or '13 Heat/Pacers I would appreciate that greatly.

Jumpin' Johnny Green in his younger days. I'm pretty sure that the WCA used this clip in his video. I found it in the footage of the Knicks Vs Nationals game from 1961,

Jumpin' Johnny Green was one of the real high fliers from the sixties. The story goes that while in college at Michigan St. the bb coach asked him to jump over something to see how athletic he was. Supposedly he jumped over a few tables from a standing start, and the coach offered him a scholarship on the spot.

Not NBA, but here's some new Pete Maravich footage from his days at LSU, going against the machine that was John Wooden's UCLA dynasty. It didn't end well for LSU.

Just wanted to give some exposure to Knicks rookie Willy Hernangomez. Great court awareness for his age and a very quick decision maker with the ball. His post moves and footwork remind me a lot of scola, but he's more mobile. Also held up better defensively than expected as a rookie. He'll be starting alongside porzingis next season, which we're very excited about.

I'll admit that Porzingis and Hernangomez give the Knicks 2/3 of a very promising frontline. But Anthony has to be replaced, and what about the backcourt?

The no trade clause Phil inexplicably gave Melo makes trading him pretty difficult. I've sorta put my brain on pause there just saying, "if it happens, it happens". I'm hoping Dennis Smith Jr is available when they pick so they can finally develop a PG of the future.

Courtney Lee is serviceable at starting SG, but bringing back Justin Holiday is a priority. The team still has a lot of issues, but if they can focus on just acquiring/developing young talent, it'd be a step in the right direction.

I edited in Bob Lanier highlights at 70sFan's request, but this is a basically a video of highlights of one game from the 1979-80 San Diego Clippers season. It was the 10th of the 14 games Bill Walton would play for them that year (6-8). Also featuring World B. Free, Freeman Williams, Swen Nater, Sidney Wicks, Jellybean Bryant, Nick Weatherspoon, Marvin Barnes, and Brian Taylor.
Frankly, I could watch this team forever . . .
"Coach, why don't you just relax? We're not good enough to beat the Lakers. We've had a great year, why don't you just relax and cool down?"
