If Stanley Johnson was available for the #16 pick would you guys do it? Does Detroit do that?
Yeah, I'd do that in a second. You got to believe that SJ is better and closer to being ready to contribute
much sooner. Also, he has a defensive instincts and abilities, a rare quality. I can remember a couple of years ago in the playoffs he was guarding Lebron, and it reminded of a young Jimmy Bulter.
I'd vote yes on SJ for the #16.

Not sure why the Wolves would even do Wiggins for Butler straight up let switch trade picks in a good draft. I get Butler currently is better but Wiggins is 6 years younger, on a much cheaper contract now and for the next contract, he's not reached his potential at age 21 and of course the roster still wouldn't be championship quality with Butler. Pek will probably never play in the NBA again and could be but hasn't been medically retired at this point.
I get why Chicago would do it, a year of mentoring from Wade and the window of creating a great roster with that player would be around 6 years longer then it currently is with Butler.

The reasons they might do it are to get the best player in the deal and to get Pekovic's (whose career is basically done) $11.6M off the books. And the Wolves may not agree with their roster not being championship quality with Butler. Their roster would be damn nice and they'd have Butler, a top 10-15 player in the league, in his prime, under team control affordably for multiple seasons...
Rubio/Dunn/Jones
LaVine/Muhammad/Rush
Butler/Bjelica
John Collins/Hill
KAT/Dieng/Aldrich
That's a great core and could be a championship contender in the next couple of years.

Minnesota could clear off Pek's contract at anytime with a medial retirement. They had no reason to do it and unless they get over that minimum by his contract they still have no reason to do it. He'll get paid no matter what and if they're under the team minimum they have to pay the players up to the team minimum plus his contract. It makes no financial sense at this point.

Sure but the same could be said with Wiggins in there, the difference is that in a couple of years Butler will be 29 and Wiggins will be 23.
I do expect Minnesota to make one or 2 big moves this offseason, they have a lot of cap space and can get a lot more if they want, the #7 pick and a pretty good proven PG on a good contract in Rubio and also the ability to move a nice young PG in either Dunn(doubt he's moved) or Tyus Jones(who's currently 21 years old).

Yeah, obviously their core is still nice with Wiggins instead of Butler... but it's not as nice. Butler is a much better player than Wiggins and will continue to be for a couple of years. In two years, Butler will still be in the middle of his prime and Wiggins still won't be in his prime, yet. I'm just saying, they might do it to be better sooner. Butler and KAT complimented by LaVine puts them in the playoffs immediately and contending for the big prize in a year or two. With Wiggins, I don't think they're there for a number of more years until he develops further. Butler's there right now. There's still no guarantee Wiggins will ever be as good as Butler...

Absolutely, Butler may be better then Wiggins for the next 2-3 years, then again Wiggins may be better 7 of the next 10 years. The window is larger and better overall with Wiggins instead of Butler plus it gives them a few years to continue to get better and wait for part of GS roster to start to decline.
Although Wiggins isn't a gamechanger like AD, KAT, Porzingis or Antetokounmpo, he's probably a 2nd tier max player for the next decade and that may be good enough with KAT already on the roster.

Butler, Rondo for Deng, Mosgov, Randle, #2 pick, 2nd round pick.
We start our rebuild with 2 great pieces. Taking Mosgov and Deng's awful contract is the poison pill but with Deng, he will be a great mentor for the younger players.
Lakers get out of 2 bad contracts and would have enough money to sign George and Lebron if they wanted next offseason.
I like the thought of this, but I don't think its enough for the Bulls to be considered a "win". I wouldn't even trade Jimmy straight up for the #2 pick. It would cost them more. And I would definitely want more than Randle and a 2nd round pick to take on 2 albatross contracts. I would counter with #2/Ingram/Mozgov for Jimmy. If they wanted to push Deng on us also, then I'd ask for their next available pick (I think it would be 2020) and a 2nd round pick.

Your counter is great (sorry Bulls_Fan, but your trade sounds like a nightmare
I don't care for Randle. He'll need to be re-upped soon, and he helps a playoff-bound LAL more than he'll help a rebuild.
Bulls FO probably has a boring set of plans for their off-season ("We like where we are and where we're going, and we just added two stellar players with the 16th and 38th picks, not to mention Payne who is basically like another free lottery addition.
BOS Jimmy - #1, salary dump (Horford?)
LAL Jimmy, Rondo - #2, Ingram, Deng, Mozgov, 2020 1st
PHI Jimmy - #3, Saric, Bayless
PHX Jimmy - #4, Chriss, salary dump
SAC - not gonna work, Jimmy/Kings aren't gonna agree to anything beyond 2018
ORL - #6, Hezonja (mind you he's a bust), 2018 1st swap (unprotected), 2019 1st (unprotected), 2020 top-3 protected 1st
I might do something like that with ORL, with the realistic expectation of those picks being very fruitless.

Good trade. From Bulls perspective, not crazy about Pekovic though.

Re: Trade Thread: Off-season edition
Rumors out of Boston considering Jackson at 1 are interesting. It could be that they are not really convinced with Fultz. The fact he worked out with Lakers is indicative there may be doubt both ways. This could also be a sign #1 for Butler not completely dead. If you draft Jackson instead of Fultz, your getting someone who plays Jimmy's position but may need 3-4 years to get to his level. What is it that Jackson provide that Jimmy can't?
Finally, if you're targeting Blake in FA, wouldn't the best way to make your team attractive be to add Butler to your roster?
I know Jimmy to Boston has been dismissed by most pundits, but it still seems to make a lot of sense to me. From both perspectives.

HORRIBLE trade. Deng contract is an albatross and Rondo is our best PG. #28 isn't worth that much

Rumor has it, the Celtics may trade the #1 pick to Philly and for #3 and pick up the Lakers unprotected pick next year and a future Philly pick.
Another rumor is that they may use this bevy of assets to trade for Butler and possibly some more that they have. Might not be a bad trade if you are okay with a rebuild approach.

If were doing a rebuild, starting it with Wiggins would really suck. Butler is far better and that isn't even a discussion. Im sure Thibs agrees too

Trying to figure out what would make sense for us getting involved in these Fultz talks -
Boston in: #3, #LA 2018, PHI 2018
Boston out: #1
Chicago in: Okafor, #3, SAC 2019
Chicago out: Butler
Philly in: #1, Butler
Philly out: Okafor, #3, LA 2018, SAC 2019, PHI 2018
Would this be logical? I would want at least one of Saric/TLC on top of what we're getting, but I feel like GarPax would just do this.

Butler for #3, Okafor, and Sac pick is not good enough.
Replace the Kings pick with either the 2018 Nets pick or LAL 2018 pick then we'll be talking.
