I hope it's not Jimmy Butler. Not a fan personally.

This is a shame, Markelle Fultz looks legit. So what if you're overloaded at point guard? He can learn from the best.

Butler is a baller. Playing for a good team means he can play a more reasonable amount of minutes and actually rest if he's banged up.

Butler is one of only two guys in the league who can hang with Lebron physically on defense. Add in Bradley/Smart at PG to guard Kyrie and that squad would be set to challenge Cleveland.

Trade for Butler
Sign Hayward and Taj Gibson
Trade IT/Crowder for a rim protector and picks/bench shooter.

(Rim protecting C)
Horford
Hayward
Butler
Bradley

Smart
Brown
Gibson
Rosier
Bench shooter

They'd still have the 2018 BKN pick and possibly one other good 1st depending what they get from Philly and have to send for Butler.

I'm a less-than-happy Celtics fan if this deal happens.

So we trade those picks for a veteran. Jimmy Butler or Blake Griffin. Does that get us past the Lebron Cavs? I don't think so. Fultz is 10 years of awesomeness, still going to be here long after Lebron's in a reduced role (let's be honest, he wont retire until he's 50).

I would be surprised if this deal does go through. With Boston trading down to 3, they risk the Lakers snagging their guy. I think if it goes through it would indicate Boston either has multiple guys they like or nobody they like.

Or just maybe it's predicated on who the Lakers take at 2.

Wasn't it 10 years ago we traded Jeff Green for Ray Allen because we couldn't get Durant in the draft?

Now it looks like we're dealing for veterans again, but this time it's not Jeff Green, it's Markelle Fultz!?! Bad idea this time unless Danny's got someone more impressive than Blake or Jimmy in mind.

I doubt it. Fultz isn't a bad consolation prize.

This reads to me as they want to keep IT long term and doesn't make sense drafting a PG. Not sure I agree with that strategy, but if they're not that high on Fultz already and are flirting with the idea of another player regardless, then sure, get a future first out of it.

I think you're better off trading IT and getting a good return, and starting Fultz day 1

Butler is 27/28. Ray was 32.

At this point with all the lowball offers, I would probably prefer we just get Lebron on the phone and get a slew of future unprotected 1sts Brooklyn style. Lebron would do that in a heartbeat because he doesn't give 2 crapps about future picks, he wants another star NOW.

Sure, those future picks probably wont be as consistently good as Brooklyns, but hell next year is going to be boring for us no matter what. Atleast getting to watch a Lebron-Butler combo to go with Irving and Love would be effing awesome and entertaining.

If it happens congrats philly

It's a total failure if Embiid can't stay healthy and/or either Simmons/Fultz doesn't pan out, however.

If a team's lottery picks all don't pan out, it's a failure. Great insight.

it's interesting to me that people just assume LeBron's Cavs are a Finals lock for many more years

i don't see that at all. If Boston can heavily upgrade their roster with a Butler or whomever , then maybe they can overtake a burned out LeBron and co.

The issue is not Lebron he has at most 2 years. The issue is can your team beat GSW

simmons has not played 1 nba game.
fultz has not played 1 nba game.
embiid has played a "few" nba games.
pehaps it's a tad too soon to worry about going to "war" against them. :)

Wait. Aren't Sixers and Celtics arch rivals? This would be like the Warriors trading with the Lakers lol.

I'd like to give a slightly different perspective.

I believe Hayward is legitimately interested in joining Boston, but Utah and Miami do have really good sales pitch. The Celtics team from last year plus Fultz might not be enough to sway Hayward. But adding Butler might be the ingredient.
Assuming Boston can keep the 2018 BKN 1st, they are gravy.

Basically, you cant assume that a trade for Butler wouldn't change Haywards assessment.
