im not a fultz hater...but he shoots 65% from the line...his 3% is most definitely not true. his defense is questionable at least. he is far from flawless, just like any other top prospect this year. there is absolutely no reason to throw TOP assets out of the window, just for better fit.

I think that it would be a L for us because we essentially had to wait 3 tanking seasons just to finally get a late lottery pick. Takes the value out of the trade in my opinion. I also do not expect the Lakers to be as bad as they were last season. They do have some young talent and the off-season hasn't really begun yet to confidently say that they will not be improved. If it's the #3 and 2018 Lakers pick for the #1 and Fultz is our guy, It's a no brainer for me. Believe in Embiid

But the value of the trade from our end was freaking MCW. Who cares that we have had to wait. Would we have been better off by keeping MCW? That was our alternative. Or maybe you get a guaranteed pick for him, but it damn sure isn't going to be a pick like this one.

I am not saying that the initial MCW/Lakers pick trade wasn't a good deal for us . I would not lose sleep if it ultimately does convey into late lottery pick. All I am saying is that the real value was in it's potential to be a pick in the 4-8 range for MCW. I think Fultz is worth trading for rather than banking on the uncertainty of the Lakers next season.

At some point there is though and I believe we've reached that point. We have our franchise player in Embiid and potentially another in Simmons. Nothing wrong with trying to build around them.

This is the point. Protect the future picks. You don't give away an imminent 1st rounder unprotected or you can wind up like the Clippers circa 2011. Any GM who signs a deal like that now, with the benefit of hindsight, should be fired before the ink is dry.

That trade isn't legal I think. Can we trade our 2018 pick and 2017 pick? Wouldn't it have to be 2019?

You just can't do a trade that leaves you with zero 1st round picks for two consecutive years. Whether you retain your own original pick or one that you got from someone else, that doesn't matter. So Philly could trade its own 2017 1st round pick for Boston's 2017 pick-- Sixers have a 2017 1st round pick in that scenario-- and also the Lakers pick or Philly pick in 2018, and it'd be legal. Heck, Philly could trade both the Lakers AND the Philly 2018 pick, since Philly would have a 2017 1st rounder (the #1 overall pick).

The issue isn't legality but potential robbery, as odd as that sounds.

I hope you are not only half right then. You could end up right about trading for Fultz, but you also said it will cost less than what most thought and it would be the 2017 pick plus future protected pick(s).

I would be shocked if Ainge caves and let's the future pick(s) be protected.
