He's a really nice offensive talent who could develop into a McCollum type player down the line. Think he might be a better player than Monk.

Tall enough at 6'6". VERY good shooter. Has a wide variety of crafty ball fakes. Excellent on the drive and can absorb contact while finishing the play. Solid passer. Nice court vision. Good rebounder (ESPECIALLY on the defensive end, ironically, considering the narrative against him). Releases his shot as quickly as anyone in the game. Very active off the ball- will get open looks against NBA defenders. What's not to like???

Kennard is going to be a very good pro.

Think it might have to do more with Butler than Hawyard.

Butler -> Boston
#3 -> Chicago

Personally, I think that Ainge might just prove again that he is a step ahead of every other GM.

My guess is that the price for Butler at the trade deadline was both of the BKN picks. Instead, Ainge is going to get a player they want this year with the #3 pick (perhaps DSJ) and then offer the Bulls what will probably be two top 5 picks (BKN and Lakers) in next years draft for Butler. So, in essence, he only had to give up one of the BKN picks. Brilliant.

Good news for Jazz too, as I doubt that Hayward would be pursued as heavily, if at all, if this goes down.

Ok, I wanted to answer some questions posted about the international bigs.

Kaba-

He played 51 games in three leagues this year (for the same team). He averaged something like 52% from 2 and 31% from 3. HIs FT shooting was around 65%, and I do think he can get that above 70%.

He's a big threat on lobs and rim runs. He gets fouled around the basket at a very impressive rate... they all just foul. But he does more than that. He's starting to stretch the D with his three. I've seen the d run out, so he puts the ball on the floor rather than shoot, then he recognizes the d back off when he does that, and so he pulls up off the dribble and hits it.

As the D starts to recognize he can hit open jumpers they really close out, and then he puts the ball on the floor and takes it to the rim. For a 6'10 guy with a 7'5 wingspan the fact that he is able to do that at all is impressive. If you are going to do that you have to be a good decision maker, avoid charges, and avoid turning the ball over (bad passes, etc).

He also has shown the ability to make mid range jump shots. Overall I believe he got around 22 or 23 minutes a night and performed well.

Pasecniks for his size has so much potential on both sides of the ball that I almost wonder if he is in reality a top 10 guy. He can even get out on the perimeter and defend laterally. When you factor in his ability to step out and shoot you have to be impressed. High potential at the NBA level.

Bolden- What really needs to be said that Fran didn't say. This is what teams of today value in a 4 man. Hard to see him not go 1st. Again you wonder if he's eventually a top ten guy.

Lessort- Oh this is a tough one. 6'9 with a 7'1 wingspan. He's athletic with an elite motor. He just can't shoot at all. He appears to be an undersized center. One has to wonder is this a bigger version of Faried, and on the other hand how is that low post pump fake and crafty moves going to work against the bigs of the NBA? Well Faried doesn't even have a post game, so you gotta consider Lessort. And you can't undervalue motor like so many do. The most proven Euro is the biggest question mark. To me he is a 1st round talent.

Now a guard--- George De Paula

All this mystery because he stayed in Brasil where they do value and focus on their youth players. He was given every opportunity to show his game. I suspect his team would like that 600k. He should get drafted. So many of these little guards in the 2nd round might just not have the tools to be more than a 3rd stringer. George has the tools to be more if cultivated. No guarantees, but in the 2nd round I'd roll the dice.

Gabriel Deck- What position, can he hang with NBA athletes??? All fair questions. But tons of skill. He's my 2 way contract.

Deonte Burton- The fatty lefty swatting shots dunking on folks, drilling deep threes to kill Kansas, and abusin folks at the elbow and free throw line extended. Put fatty on a diet and tell Clarence Weatherspoon to move over.

He seems to be self-aware, unlike Bam(who wants to be a stretch 4??). He said he wants to be like Draymond defensively and like Tristan Thompson offensively. I think that's a pretty good goal for him.

He's the next Chuck Hayes. I really like him.

His potential is much higher than Hayes at both ends of the court.

Not every comparison has to be a carbon copy, and not every comparison is a ceiling.

Chuck Hayes was a really good defender BTW. Would have been even better in today's PnR league.

Other than both being good defenders I just don't see a comparison between the 2 at all. Even the way they play defense is a polar opposite. Hayes was a solid man to man defender because he was so strong and couldn't be backed down but he wasn't anything special in any other aspect of defense.

(versus Toronto Raptors)
7-8 from the floor including 1 three pointer. 16 points 3 boards, 3 assists

Appears to be 6'7 with a 6'9 (maybe a touch more) wingspan. Looks 235 to 240. Best record in the league. In the semi-finals... they play again on the 20th.

18 PPG, 4 rebounds 65% 2FG 35% 3P 76% FT 1.4 apg 1.4 tpg .8spg .3bpg

Looks like they broadcast games on youtube...

I'd like to get this guy out of Argentina and into the D-League on a 2 way. Get him out of a 2-3 and see if he can be brought along.

Hmm...we really disagree on Chuck Hayes it seems. You think he was solid in one area and not special in anything else. I actually think the opposite. He was a strong defensive big in every aspect besides being a rim protector. He was more than solid one on one defender. Solid doesn't do that part of his game justice. He was also very good in space, always in position, could switch, and had excellent hands on defense. He could guard every type of big man and did all of the little things to help his team.

That's more or less what I see Bell's role at the next level to be. He's going to be an undersized defensive specialist. As I said, not every comparison has to be a carbon copy. Chuck was more burly and strong. Bell is more agile and bouncy. Who cares? If he's going to make it 10 years in the league, he's going to do it the same way as Chuck. Bell is going to need to be able to guard every kind of big one on one and be a great defender as well.

A lot of good stuff about Deonte Burton. I really think he's going to surprise us all in the end. Whatever team he goes to.

How would you rate the Jazz's draft if those were our eventual picks?
Draft Nate Wolters - FAILED
Keep Nate Wolters - FAILED

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

B-

I like the Wilson and Hart picks. I don't like the Hartenstein pick much... I don't mind Blossomgame but if Thornwell is there I'd pick him over Blossomgame 10/10 times

How would you rate it?

No idea.

The draft is my favorite time of the year, and usually I'm all up in it. But it has been a challenging year and I didn't have the time to follow prospects closely, or almost at all, really. It pained me to be absent from this thread, but I didn't have much to contribute, given my limited knowledge on this year's draft, which is why I wouldn't know how to rate those picks, or any others. This year, I'll defer judgement to others about how the Jazz will do on draft day. I'll try to educate myself on the prospects later on.

I still don't like the Wilson pick all that much. Afraid that he'll be a big with no big man ability, just like Lyles. If that's the case you should just play a real wing instead.

I didn't expect to say that but... Bam's shot looks promising... I wonder if Cal is to blame for not letting him use it more in games?

Come on! Fall to us! Please!
