I've always thought Jackson made the most sense for the Lakers.

Couple random observations: when you hear the Cooney's, the wip hosts, etc all lining up in support of a deal like this, it would probably be a good idea to run the other way.

Secondly, when did this notion that if you identify a player you want, the cost does not matter come into vogue. I just listened to the 97.5 host say "if you've identified Fultz is the guy, you give up 3, Lakers pick, Saric and frankly you throw in Covington and future Sixers picks if that's what it takes." Bodner is essentially saying the same thing, it's crazy.

me too. better fit with DAR by the way.

However it would be an interesting dynamic: what if BOS takes Fultz with the deal in place and then LAL takes Jackson?
Is Fultz the B-plan for Boston or they love more than a prospect at three?

Straight up, I thought it was a pretty good trade, and still do. And three no. 1 picks? C’mon.”

Now you know what Ainge is going to do.

Penny is the one of the best players ever in our franchise history. If the Orlando Magic had the #1 pick this year, I would do exactly what the Celtics are trying to do, acquire more picks and trade down 2 spots to the 3rd pick. Assuming Fultz goes 1 and Ball 2, I don't believe in any of the hype in Fultz so I will gladly drop from the 1st overall pick to the 3rd pick and choose between Josh Jackson, Fox, Tatum and maybe Isaac. And those 4 guys can definitely have a better NBA career than Fultz.

And if I was the Sixers and I had the #3 pick in this draft, I wouldn't do what the Warriors made 25 years ago: overpay with multiple picks to select someone who could be a better fit but a worse player at the end of the day.

So, let's see if Colangelo learnt the lesson and he is not overpaying for Fultz.

I mean - let's be serious - he HAS to be overpaying for Fultz. There is literally no scenario where Ainge takes equal or lesser value to trade that pick - they are in the position of leverage. You basically HAVE to overpay for this type of trade, the question really becomes HOW MUCH do you overpay?

Then we lose out. Unless you're a ball fan, then you'll be ecstatic. I'd rather sixes take dsj, he would be a nice consolation prize.

Lakers selecting Jackson, who Boston covets means, ainge will negotiate with the Lakers because the Lakers probably want fultz.

I mean its Ainge so I'm sure he's trying to get every inch he can get, but I'm not sure how much leverage they have if this is part of a larger plan of theirs. If they want as much cap space as possible heading into the summer, they can't take on contracts, even relatively cheap ones like guys on rookie deals. The Sixers are basically the only other team with (a) cap space to take on contracts (b) a high pick in this draft (3) valuable future picks that aren't tied to their own performance. The future picks should be especially attractive to the Celtics because they don't have any impact on the cap.

He certainly has some leverage, which is why we're not just giving them like #3 and Okafor, but I don't think he exactly has the Sixers over a barrel unless Colangelo feels like he has to get Fultz at any cost.

It started with The NFL draft and the franchise quarterback position specifically. "If you don't have a franchise quarterback and you think this is your guy, then go get your guy." People that expouse that for the NBA draft are all fakes. It makes some sense if you think the guy can quickly become an MVP caliber player, but who looks at Fultz that way with his unimpressive athletic package? The "generational talent" phrase users aren't liberal with it when discussing Markelle Fultz. It's sort of like how people spoke of Evan Turner as a prospect.

My gut tells me Jackson being available doesn't have a lot to do with all this. Otherwise, why would really credible reporters like Lowe and Shelbourne say they'd be stunned if it doesn't get finished? I think Boston has other motivations for the Sixers #3 pick. We'll see.

I think people are giving the "Jackson to LAL" talk too much credibility. Ball is going to be a Laker, and there's really no mystery about it.

This was literally the only reason why I was willing to do the trade with BOS to begin with. They want to have their cake and eat it too. Trade for the player they wanted to select 1st overall with zero risk f' that.

You get Okafor and nothing else

If they really believe Fultz is the guy, or Jackson is the guy then just short of giving away the next two drafts you have to do it.

Completely different sport but just like in football, you overpay to get the QB that you believe will lead your team for the next ten to fifteen years. Just from the marketing perspective having a superstar changes everything.

But, from what most of I've read here, a lot of you guys don't believe Fultz has seperated himself enough from Jackson, or maybe the Sixers want Jackson instead, either way if they make the trade, Colangelo better be damn sure this guy is going to fit with what they're doing, and bring the Sixers closer to a championship in the next 5 years.

All the hate I gave the process, I really like the size Hinkie went for, the Sixers are huge and that is something I believe will help them beat teams like GS and Cleveland in the future, so if everything's equal (Fultz is the better shooter) I get that but Jackson defensively and length wise seems to be a better fit. Unless of course Fultz is that much better offensively.

Celtics do it because, like most people, they feel Fultz is not an ELITE prospect in the KAT/Biid/Giannis/Simmons tier that they can risk giving up right now for the later.

Yeah, Fultz MAYBE a better prospect. For Ainge, the Lakers pick way makes up for the difference between Ball/Jackson over Fultz.

With Fultz, his value and upside is relative to what team he lands. It's like Kevin Love empty stats in Minnesota vs Kevin Love impact on/off player for Cavs. That's how I see it. Can be a good player but an impact player will depend on where he lands.

And with Celts I just don't see how their team can make him an impact player other than just another perimiter scorer with IT. Something like the Dame/CJ backcourt. And you also risk throwing away IT in this scenario.

I also think that for Celts to maximize assets, the way to go is for Butler+Hayward all in now or Jackson now plus Lakers pick next year.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

Well, the future picks is whole thing, right? I mean including the #3 and the LAL pick is already, in some sense, an overpay. Anything more than that almost definitely is - which is why I'm saying the question becomes how much is the overpay? I agree there's some question about the amount of leverage, but the reality is that Boston CAN still just draft him outright, which is almost leverage enough on its own, right?

Why don't we just flip #3 and Okafor to LAL....#2 and Lakers 2018 pick to Boston (assuring they get Jackson), and #1 to Philly.

Lakers get Ball still, and pick up Okafor in the process.

Sixers give up same package essentially and still get it done.

Boston gets their guy and accomplishes the same goals.

One of those truly rare win-win-win scenarios. Michael Scott's favorite kinds.
