I don't trust Ryu (sorry Neddy) but I'd like to reassert that I'm angry about Rich Hill because he stays hurt, is only projected to give us a little over 100 IP and I don't think a good portion of those 100 innings will be effective.

This guy doesn't have a start longer than 5 innings this year.

We gave him money to pray hed be healthy n ready by October. By far my most hated signing of the Friedman era.

hey we haven't even hit our stride and yet we are the team to beat in the NL. Ryu and Hill are sucking right now, but what and when it counts for them is in October and November. I trust both, or at least one of the two, will be able to join the 4 men rotation come playoffs. IMO the list will be 1) Kershaw 2) McCarthy 3) Ryu/Hill 4) Wood. for Ryu, it will be about him getting fastball's velocity back to make his change up relevant again, and for Hill, it will be about getting his control of his curveball back.
ehhhhh f it.

Yeah, it's getting harder and harder to defend Rich Hill with every outing but I'm still not panicking. I'd like to give Hill a chance to fine-tune his curveball, which I think has been off because he wants to avoid the blisters that have plagued him before. I'll start worrying if he isn't showing some progress after the All-Star break.

I'm still not a believer in Hyun-Jin Ryu but I do hope he improves to prove me wrong. Like Neddy said, at least we have Kershaw,
Wood and McCarty, though Kershaw has been frustratingly mortal of late. I still don't want to trade for the likes of Jose Quintana with recent rumors of the Dodgers having interest, though I know Quake is a fan.

Alex Wood got to bat in the 8th.
He drove in a run.

Wanted to post here that I'm glad Dave is letting him pitch and I wanted to do ir before he either sealed the deal or coughed it up so it wouldnt be a 20/20 hindsight thing.

Thank you Dave.

Why I Defer to Neddy's Expertise

Neddy wrote:like I have been saying for a long time, age matters. I sure hope Urias gets his proper and badly needed rest and stay out for the foreseeable future. we need his arm in a couple of years to be as dominant as he has shown he can be.

Craig Minami, TrueBlueLA.com (6/17/17)
Where is Julio Urias at right now this season and his development?

“He’s talented enough to be there, to be in that rotation but we’ve still got to be careful, we’ve still got to be careful, we know that if we just said the reins are off just go be like everybody else, the risk of him getting hurt goes up just because of his age and the fact he throws the ball so violently hard, I mean he touched 97 a couple of times his last start.”

“We have slow-played all throughout his career and which, right or wrong, and I mean you could have your opinion about that, but we have slowed-played it.”

“So we are still kind of in that mode and we’re all looking forward to just that one day, where, okay, go just go be Julio Urias, pitch 200 innings in the big leagues, we’re waiting for that, we can’t wait for that but anytime he says he’s a little sore, the records skips and we need to get him checked out.”

Herges first coached Urias back 2014 at Rancho Cucamonga, three years later, what changes have you seen?

“Now I’m seeing a mature man, I mean he bought a car, he’s got a girlfriend.” “He’s just more of a man now.”

“And the best part about it is, if you ask him, he’s a major league pitcher, and that’s where he should, and I want him to have that.”

“I want him to have that mindset, I see a more mature man, I see a guy who continues to make tweaks and get better, because there are certain things that as a young kid like tipping pitches or not hiding the ball or direction, a ton of things that could go wrong that he fixes them quicker than anyone I’ve ever had, like just one little thing and it’s done.”

Matt Herges talks about Julio Urias and Wilmer Font

And Joc is beginning to deliver.

MY WORD!

Can Ryu settle down and not suck for like 2-3 more innings?
Sheesh.

Maeda looks like a different pitcher since his relief outing. he is keeping his pitches in the zone, hitting the corners at will with sharper stuff. looks like the last starter job might be a battle of two struggling lefties.
ehhhhh f it.

Maeda with eye popping 33 pitches through 3 complete innings. he is on pace for 99 pitch perfect game. not that he will get there but his first 3 innings have been perfect, just perfect so far. this version of Kenta is worth every penny of his incentives and much more.

BTW I don't know how to feel about Bronson Arroyo still playing, talent wise he really outta retire but give him props for keeping it going and wanting to go out in his own terms.

but man, it is hard to watch his fastballs coming in at 80 mph and sliders in 73 mph. he is now the "preacher" from the "Major league". a junkballer's delight... or dread......

Kenta pitched only 3 mistake pitches today, too bad they all came in consecutively against Hamilton. with the counts 0-2, he threw a pretty good breaking ball into the dirt, which almost fooled Billy. counts 1-2, that high fastball was a foot higher than where it should been. it was too obvious and even with sharper stuff Kenta is displaying today, his fastball isn't fast enough or dirty enough to fool a major leaguer. even on the TV screen that ball immediately looked out of zone by a mile. he followed that up with a terrible, another foot or more off the plate breaking ball. then he tried to come back in with 2-2 counts, with a floater in the inner half of the plate. that is asking for trouble.

damn it I hope he is not reverting back... intentional pitch outs are not supposed to hit the dirt!
ehhhhh f it.

please just walk Votto. 3-1 count with the first base open, just walk him.

well done. one out, two on, now a double play is in play with a slow runner like Joey. forget Billy on second. concentrate on Duvall.
