The Celtics decided to pass on drafting Markelle Fultz, trading down to No. 3 with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Boston could also flip the third overall pick in a separate trade and aren't done discussing scenarios.

Hope Ainge really trade this ****, why do we need to draft another SF if we're going after Gordon Hayward anyways?? We're already full of guards, now you want to be stacked with SFs, Dannyboy??
Then on Draft night Dummy Ainge is gonna be like..
"We had a lot of discussion about even trading [the No. 3] pick and trading down in the draft and trading for future picks and so forth. Ultimately, there wasn’t anything to our liking. We grew very fond of Josh. He’s a great kid -- 20 years old who has a man’s body, great athleticism, sort of a vogue, new type of player in the NBA, of the versatile players, the versatile wings, can play multiple positions defensively. And we think he has a lot of upside, but we think he’s a 20-year-old kid that can get on the court and play with the big boys right out of the gate."

Championship teams are built around superstars. We had one sittingthere for the taking. He wanted to be a Celtic. And for some inexplicable reason, we let him slip through our fingers.
You know who Danny was quoted as saying reminded him of Scottie Pippen pre-draft?
Giannis.

Jackson is 6 foot 8 there's no reason he can't play PF. This is just a bunch of people who grew too attached to Fultz.

Re: All things Draft Pick. #3
The more I think about this deal the worse it sounds.
#1 overall for #3 and a top 1 protected pick next year really doesn't sound like an Ainge trade. We're not the clear winner here. The Laker pick should be protected only on our end (i.e. either the pick is in the top 3 or we get the Sac pick instead)
This leads me to believe that Ainge has his eyes on other targets and the Laker pick is trade fodder

What's your scenario for the Kings trading up to leapfrog Phoenix and take a PG?

Specific protection on that Lakers pick was already reported. #2 to # 5, it goes to the Celtics. Otherwise, we get the 2019 Kings pick.

Re: All things Draft Pick. #3
If we aren't getting a star, I'd really look at the trade down to 5/10. Tatum might be available there, if not DSJ or Isaac to go along with another lottery pick would be a very good draft for us.

CrowderKeg wrote:Smitty731 wrote:The scale amount for #3 is $4,704,500.00
The cap hold for that pick is 120% of that or $5,645,400.00
The cap hold changes to 120% with the new CBA because 99.9% of all draft picks signed for the max they were allowed which was 120% of the scale amount.
Question 1: When can rookies be signed? Can they be signed as soon they're drafted or does the team have to wait until July 1?
Question 2: If a team wants to trade its player for another player (both non-FAs), which salaries are used for matching if it's executed before July 1? Is there a cutoff date when new salaries are used for salary matching?
The reason I asked is AB + #3 doesn't seem enough for a hypothetical trade for Paul George if salaries for 2017-18 are used but it's enough if salaries for 2016-17 are used. It appears if a trade for a star happens, it would have to come after a hypothetical max FA signing, is that correct? In that case, additional salary would be needed in my made-up trade (probably a signed 2nd rounder?).
Thanks in advance for the help!
A. From memory, there's a delay on how soon you can trade a guy after you sign him, depending on what rules you used to sign him. You need to check out that part.
B. Larry Coon's CBA FAQ is the source for almost everything about the NBA CBA.
C. Yes. It's easier to clear salary to sign a guy with cap space and only then do another trade, assuming the subsequent trade brings in more salary than it sends out.
D. 2016-7 trades are easier to do than 2017-8 in certain cases, because Zeller's salary is available for inclusion in the former ones. But of course, if a trade needs Zeller's salary to balance, it takes a huge chunk out of our July cap room.

I saw, I'm saying that's not great for us. This trade is risky anyway even without top 1 protection on the Laker pick. If Danny intended to keep that pick, I think he would've insisted on it only being protected to benefit the Celtics.

As said, 5 and 10 for 3 and maybe our 2018 pick. The question is Phoenix, they have Ullis and Booker, Fox would be a great addition to that team (also their former teammate), but so would Jackson and Tatum. Tatum theoretically fits perfectly next to Bender, but doesn't next to Booker. Jackson is a great fit for Phoenix, but will he be there and is that group (Ullis, Booker, Jackson, Bender, Chriss, Warren) good enough in terms of ceiling?

Where is Danny gonna find a cornerstone player (28 year olds PG13 and Butler certainly arent that) if he refuses to attempt to draft 1?
Point guards are not cornerstone players either with some very rare exceptions.

It wasn't official and still isn't--league offices are closed. The Sixers knew what the Celtics would accept and released to the press it was done before talking to them.

Re: All things Draft Pick. #3
I think some Celtics fans are upset by the trade. I always look at rest of NBA. No one is killing this trade for Boston. Why is that?
I wanted Fultz, but there must be something about that kid that doesn't really fire people up. This isn't a Duncan, Lebron, Anthony Davis draft.
