I wanted Fultz, but there must be something about that kid that doesn't really fire people up. This isn't a Duncan, Lebron, Anthony Davis draft.

If Jackson was promised by LA, it's Tatum or.... good lord could Ainge actually be targeting Lonzo?

Re-read the phrasing.
"Celtics hadn't even been told the deal was done." How can they not know that the deal is done if they're the ones to okay it? Or do they mean approval from the league office? Confused.

It wasn't official and still isn't--league offices are closed. The Sixers knew what the Celtics would accept and released to the press it was done before talking to them.

That's odd. So it wasn't a done deal when Sixers leaked to the press that it was?

That seems like the best case scenario for us if we don't trade for established players. Heck, it's a dream scenario and even both could be there if Kings trade up for Fox.

What's your scenario for the Kings trading up to leapfrog Phoenix and take a PG?

As said, 5 and 10 for 3 and maybe our 2018 pick. The question is Phoenix, they have Ullis and Booker, Fox would be a great addition to that team (also their former teammate), but so would Jackson and Tatum. Tatum theoretically fits perfectly next to Bender, but doesn't next to Booker. Jackson is a great fit for Phoenix, but will he be there and is that group (Ullis, Booker, Jackson, Bender, Chriss, Warren) good enough in terms of ceiling?

So basically you think Phoenix could take a PG even though they already have a bunch of them. Fair enough. No reason to rule out a team going BPA.

That's ~$110M in salaries BEFORE Butler re-signed. Add in whoever is left after trade, high pick rookie deals, roster filler and $ go nuts. Play that only one year further with Butler re-signed and you go from a $300M team to a $400M team aged 30+ with very likely no titles."

Okay, I'm even more confused. What's the plan then? It's surely not that? Owners won't pay for that if the ceiling is a puncher's chance at making the Finals.

It's looking like run back the same squad from last season (minus the FAs) + #3 + Hayward/Griffin?

Easy, you don't re-sign the 5'9 29-year-old.

You realize if there are no trades and the Celtics keep Isaiah and Avery and still have Horford on the books, it's a very similar situation. so who would you rather have, Gordon Hayward and Paul George or Isaiah Thomas and Avery Bradley?

It's surely meant to say that the Sixers told the press they were accepting the Celtics' offer before they told the Celtics.

But would anybody be shocked if there were a deal on more generous terms to the Celtics than are being reported? Not I. The Celtics may not really have committed to that offer themselves.

Unless Ainge clearly made the offer, saying that both he and ownership were willing to do that deal, he's not committed to it.

#3 for PG who has zero chance to re sign is way too much.

Really? Then let's do this. I want to win now. I reject the premise that golden state is too good, and I also think waiting 6 years to compete is ridiculous.

That's what I'm thinking. We should renege or renegotiate the terms of the deal. But then that's a bad look since it already went public.

All that protection on the Lakers pick was Ainge's plan to get the 2019 Sacramento pick. The Lakers are going to win like 25 to 30 games next year.

Oh yeah, the Celtic still have their Brooklyn pick for 2018!

Just to confuse things further -- what if Ainge flips a pick to Sacramento, but it's not the #3?

It's tough to imagine Divac paying a high price to get back a pick he traded away for so little, but Ranadive isn't a TOTAL loser as a businessman, so I can see him saying "What's done is done. We had expensive lessons. Just do what's right going on from here."

If the essence of the trade is the #1, perhaps plus minor assets, going out, while #3 and #5 come back, the whole thing could look a lot better.

Or maybe ddb gets his wish, and we get #3 + #10 + WCS.

Lonzo could salvage all of this. A lot more than Jackson or Tatum anyway. Lakers aren't that stupid to not take him though.

I see this trade as Ainge having Tatum above Fultz and essentially picking up a future pick for free. Under that lens, I like the move.

Ultimately it's a great trade if Fultz is as good or worse than who we get at 3. If you passed on Fultz for a worse player then you are an idiot.
