Re: All things Draft Pick. #3
I'm cool with the trade. We're moving down one spot and were likely getting another top 5 pick to do so. I'm a big Fultz guy, but he's clearly not a LBJ/Durant/Oden prospect and if the C's thought he was they wouldn't have done this. Ainge never loses trades so lets sit back and see what happens

Offensively he obviously looked the part, but they must not have felt he was a good chance of being a great player. They don't trade the pick if they think the kid is Harden.
Fultz hype created, check.
Now Jackson hype within the past week, check.
All the while, they've been hush hush on the best player from last year, Tatum.
Hmmm.
All we know is the Celtics worked Tatum out

Surprised how many are freaking out over what Ainge just supposedly built in Philly. If anyone's trusting in Embiid's health then...umm...yeah. Good luck to ya. Plus now not one...but TWO dudes, who while extremely talented...couldn't get their team to the COLLEGE playoffs!!! College. School boys. With one of them unable to even launch his career due to injury.
Why again are Celtics fans quaking in their boots over "The Process"?? Hopefully it's cause they saw some Okafor defensive "highlights" and are laughing uncontrollably.
Jaylen Brown had an abysmal tournament showing. I fail to see how simply getting there reflects on how you play as a pro. Means nothing.
I like Fultz. But if you are a great player and can't carry your team to a winning record in college, how are you supposed to as a pro?
If Lebron was 18 and went to college, do you think his team, even with crappy players, would have made ncaas?
Exactly. I wanted Fultz, I like scoring, but I have a major issue with inability to dominate at college level and win gamesZ had same issue with Simmons.
This is his biggest knock to be quite honest. Look at Hayward at butler. They had less talent than Washington and Hayward took them to the brink not a national title.

Hayward also had some random guy named Brad Stevens coaching him. I think that played a role for sure, especially considering Butler made it back to the Finals the next season, WITHOUT Hayward. Not really a great comparison imo.

I just saw an article that reminds us Fultz had the third highest scoring average in college (Division 1?) over the past decade. One of the two guys ahead of him was Kevin Durant.
The other was Michael Beasley.

Re: All things Draft Pick. #3
I think any team that wants to be a serious contender needs Paul George the most out of any reasonably available player (so, not LeBron, KD, Kawhi, AD, KAT), because you need to have somebody to throw at the aforementioned unattainable players.
Butler can't do that, Hayward nor Griffin. Paul George is by far your best chance of the leftovers. Pick up Jackson or Tatum to bring up behind him (assuming we deal the future pick for PG), along with a big from '18 draft... not bad.

I think Hayward has it in him to be a few time 3rd/2nd team forward. He has skills.

Hahahhaha.
I'll never live it down if I was wrong on this one.
I'm still mad but I've moved to the acceptance phase
You should accept Danny won't be fired by 2020 and take down that stupid sig.
I'll consider it after July 4th.
Maybe I overreacted on fire danny Ainge but I am not happy with the move non the less

Well.....I went ahead and did it. I just watched JJ's highlights (been avoiding since the lottery). I knew I should not have, because it's stands out above Tatum and Isaac without a doubt ( I have avoided Ball and Fultz), there is no way JJ falls to us.....if so OMG!!!!Re: All things Draft Pick. #3

Re: All things Draft Pick. #3
So what are the details? 3 and LA pick 2-5? If it's not 2-5 it turns into Philly 2019?
I like how he gave up the 1 since he knows that's already going to come from Brooklyn.
haha..Seriously though you could probably get a franchise changing big man from 2-5 in the draft..and if it does land there odds are we will have TWO top 5 picks, which opens up a ton of trade scenarios also. So even if we lose hard on Fultz you got the chance to win big next year and offset some of that.
This is a trade that will only have a winner a couple years down the line. No panic from me..very, very, very curious about what the next steps are.

The thing that bothers me about Tatum is his FG% is lower than the rest. But at least his FT% is better.

Sacramento 2019
Anyway, after sleeping on it the way I look at is if Ainge doesn't trade the pick and he wanted Jackson/Tatum, I would've rather him trade down than reach and take them #1

If LA is 2-5 next year we get the pick. If not we get SAC's '19 1st round pick

Danny was the outlier on Oden vs Durant, too.
He may be wrong, he may be right. But I'd rather have the guy that has the balls to trust his gut than the weenie who only drafts consensus BPA.
Danny always wanted to trade this years Brooklyn pick, plus several others for Justice Winslow.
Danny isn't god. He makes questionable moves. This is easily his most questionable move yet and on paper looks horrible.
He just build a stacked team in Philly and STILL let them off the hook by keeping one of the Sacramento or Lakers picks. So they'll soon enough be ADDING to that core. Horrible.
No, the BKN pick in question was 2016. If you're gunna blast someone for something that didn't happen, at least pick the right rumor.
I never claimed he was god, so congrats on the strawman.
Ainge had Tatum above Fultz. Rather than picking Tatum 1, he traded down to get him for a cheaper salary while adding a future asset. The same posters criticizing him for the trade would be crucifying him for drafting Tatum and not trading down.
I'm a Fultz nut hugger. I had him #1. But I could be wrong. I wish we got better value, but, this wasn't a bad deal.
Well, around the time the rumors first started swirling you were adamant this was all just a smokescreen and other fan bases were doing mental gymnastics, Celtics would pick Fultz. Then when the preliminary trade came out I believe you were one of the people who thought there is no way trade gets done without both '18 LAL and '19 SAC unprotected along with the #3. After the finalize trade you have re-positioned yourself again.
You may not think he is a god, but you have to admit your faith in Ainge leads your opinions.

How does that make you better than the Lin, Gallo, and Wil fans who root for them over NY?

I'd prefer to give up the 2017 #3 pick in any trade for PG or JB before I give up one of the 2018 Laker pick (sure to be between 2-5 if it is conveyed which could be any one of Ayton, Bamba, Porter Jr., Doncic or Williams), or the unprotected SAC 2019 for a legit shot at Bagley or Williamson.

Many folks talk about those two as if they're can't miss future stars. If they don't get there, you're right it doesn't necessarily mean they won't end up being good players. However, it's a clear caution flag, and sure as heck says to me they're no NBA superstar. So back to my point - no need for internet tears over the impending juggernaut Philly dynasty.

Re: All things Draft Pick. #3
A lot of Jimmy Butler talk... but couple reasons why PG makes more sense..
1. He's younger
2. Lower price tag to acquire
3. Better shooter
4. Mentioned IT was the player he was most excited to play with in the All Star game
5. Retweeted, then deleted, a quote by Pierce saying Boston should trade the top overall pick
6. Zach Lowe reported earlier that George wanted to play with Hayward.
7. Lakers and Clippers suck. Danny should be willing to call his bluff on actually wanting to sign there.
8. IT / George / Hayward / Horford is a legit team. A defensive center away from being a legit contender.

Yeah exactly..I think it's a good trade with potential to be a terrific trade. People are acting like it's a big risk for us but to me it's a hell of a bigger risk for Philly. At least we will have two cracks at it..
