You just do NOT want to become the 2011 Clippers again. I thought the lesson there was that a GM would never again trade the rights to a first round pick with no protections at all, especially if the team in question had a real chance of being bad.
Not that it ruins the whole thing for me, but the likelihood is that Boston gets the Sacto pick. If it's a top 3-4-5 pick, OK. That's steep value to pay for moving up 2 spots, but OK. It's two years from now. But if you wind up giving up the year's top prospect, man, that's pretty rough.
I know that a bunch of others have been saying, hey, it's all uncertainty, anything could happen. And yeah, sure, of course we don't know what will happen. But I still say that you don't give up a completely unprotected 1st rounder from a very bad team (which characterizes the Kings even more now than it has for the previous 5 years). You just don't.
I'm excited about Fultz, though.
Well to move up to one I'm okay with the 19 unprotected. If I'm Ainge, I'd shut the whole deal down if I can't get the 19 unprotected.
The Clippers gave that pick up to dump Baron Davis' salary. We got the number 1 pick 4 days before the draft. I completely understand why Ainge demanded there be upside with the future pick.
