I'm looking at your salary sheet and I think I'm understanding that under exceptions, a team can use 8.4 million & go over the cap. Is that accurate or am I off? Same question for the BAE. And from there, can that money be split up on multiple players?

Thanks Smitty-it's truly great stuff.

Thanks for the kind words. Much appreciated!

You can use the Exception to mover up over the cap. And the Exceptions can be spit up among several players. There differences are with how many years you can sign guys for. the BAE can be used only to sign someone to a one or two year deal. The others are up to four years.

In addition, if you are under the cap, you get the Room Exception. In the case of the Room Exception, you can use all of your available cap space and then use the Room Exception after that.

Hopefully that helped!

Thanks a lot Smitty, makes total sense & makes me feel better about Boston's ability to build a solid roster around a max free agent as well.

To my understanding, the Spurs don't have Bird Rights or Early Bird Rights for Dewayne Dedmon. You still have them keeping his cap hold.

I have two questions that I don't understand...

1. Do the Spurs have any form of Bird Rights for Dedmon this summer? If so, how?

2. If a team doesn't have bird rights to a player, why does keeping their cap hold make sense?
Disclaimer: Trades I post shouldn't make you stressed or angry if you disagree. If you say it's unproductive because it won't happen and we're only allowed to post deals that actually happen, it takes away 99% of trades here and the fun out of the board.

They don't have any form of Bird Right for Dedmon, but they can still give him a slight bump in pay. They won't renounce him unless they need to. If Gasol opts in as expected, they won't have cap space and won't renounce any of their FAs.

So even if they are over the cap, they could use Dedmon's cap hold to re-sign him without Bird Rights? I thought that wasn't possible for some reason.

Yes. Minor bump in pay. 20%.

Thanks! I just was figuring out how the Spurs could sign Chris Paul, but if they can create MAX cap space for Paul without renouncing Dedmon's cap hold, I didn't realize they could go over the cap after signing Paul to re-sign Dedmon to a 20% raise.

I'm not sure that will be enough considering how well Dedmon played this year.

Yes. Matthew Dellavedova was an RFA last summer and he was part of a S&T to Milwaukee.

Hard to see Philly keeping all of:
Henderson/Long/Poythress.

I mean, you have them carrying 16 salaries (including Korkmaz) and thats before any 2nd rounders this year.

I would have Henderson and Poythress off the sheet, with the gap between Long and a 2nd rounder not worth fighting over.

(Also, Korkmaz will go off it, as there should be no way to do his 2m buyout logically)

So, yeah, I have you understating Philly by ~10m.
