Re: All things Draft Pick. #3
The Boston Celtics already made headlines with one huge trade leading up to the NBA Draft, but that might not be the last time they do so.
The Celtics have agreed on a trade with the Philadelphia 76ers that will likely become official on Monday to swap the first and third picks of this Draft and for the Celtics to also acquire a few more picks from the 76ers in future drafts.
Philly seems all-in on Markelle Fultz and moving up to No. 1 guarantees them him while the Celtics had their reservations about Fultz, are already stocked at guard and may have their eyes set on an even bigger prize.
Anthony Davis is a target of the Celtics, according to Chris Mannix of The Vertical.
OK, now we have a party. If someone have already sent this here, sorry.

Just earlier today, I did. Someone tweeted the possible tax implications. That's why I'm interested to know what "the other shoe to drop" is and why we had to do the Philly trade this early. What's the plan? 'Cos Bulpett among others have hinted on a trade for a vet. And all season, we've been conditioned to expect a huge FA signing.

I have felt this ever since Celtics brought back DSJ for another workout. We all know Ainge is after someone but when you eliminate the usual suspects like Butler/George/Davis there really doesn't seem to be a lot out there.
We all know Knicks could use draft picks. Just speculation but I wouldn't be surprised if some trade of Porzingis to Boston, Melo to 3rd team and a boatload of picks and young players were being discussed.
Just a thought.
I think the potential to dump Melo's money on us could be enough for them to give up the 8. I'd be tempted, even if there are better options. Looks like they love Ntilikina, though. And I could see Smith going to the Magic. They need some hotheadedness.
All three, Melo/KP/8? Incredibly unlikely. If they're rebuilding entirely, they keep Porzingis.
All three?

Love that Danny Ainge is going all out for Anthony Davis according to rumors. Ainge should, he has the assets. Worst thing that can happen is New Orleans says no thank you.

If Porzingis is not coming to Boston and Melo going to a 3rd team I'm not interested

Agreed but that asset chest seems like it would be more attractive if you could offer the 1st pick in the draft versus the #3 and future potential high picks. Not sure how the Philly trade gives us a more attractive offer for a superstar.

Add the LAL/SAC pick.
CAn somebody do the math with the spreadsheet showing moves to clear space for max FA etc?

If we're going after AD, why break the #1 into two pieces? Wouldn't the top pick be more attractive to the Pelicans??

It's gonna take more than that to get AD. NO will want a god father offer and AD is worth it.

I don't see a reason why the Pelicans would trade Davis, but let's just consider they're as dumb as the Kings front office and they'll trade him away to us. Actually, if you're reading this, Demps, you're a really smart guy and moving Davis to the Celtics for picks is the smartest thing you'll ever do in your life, do it, babe.

That deal is for Paul George.
The Pelicans are not trading us AD in the next 12 months. We will still have all our current assets on offer to them at that time. They have the time to assess what they have in AD + Boogie.

1. Depends how they feel about Fultz
2. Depends how many high draft picks they would want.

So, IT Max, George Max, Griffin Max, Horford Max?
I think you have to hope you have enough left after the PG trade that Jaylen can step up, Jackson or Tatum, that you can get a big or a franchise guy in the 2018 draft, then probably try to deal Horford, maybe Smart takes over and IT goes.
Nice problem to have, but don't want to give Blake a new treadmill near-contender to run on.
Also why Butler is more appealing. And Drummond, who needs more coaching and who everyone hates, is on a relative discount deal, too.

IMO if we trade this 3rd pick and the 2018 Nets' pick they get a better chance at rebuilding, they'll have a top 3 pick thursday and probably a top 1 and a top 6 next year, thats a great fresh start for building around Cousins, considering that they're not a bad front office as Sacramento's and their player development staff is not that bad either. It is a great shot for them, considering that Davis and Cousins probably won't work well together.
