I really like what i've seen and read about Mitchell so far...too bad he is rising on the mock draft boards more and more...latest draftexpress mock has him at 11 going to the Hornets. :/

And Kennard seems to be rising too:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2716005-lakers-pistons-knicks-among-teams-interested-in-luke-kennard

On Thursday, ESPN's Chad Ford said Kennard has moved up fast in recent weeks and that he's worked out for the Lakers, Knicks, Pacers, Heat and Pistons.

"Right now it looks like the Pistons at No. 12 are Kennard's floor," Ford wrote. "But he could go higher. The Knicks, according to a team source, are seriously considering taking him at No. 8. And a Lakers source said he'd be a favorite if the team ends up with a second pick in the Top 10."

A general manager with a late lottery pick said: "There's no way he gets to us. I don't think there's any way he's out of the Top 10. We think he's the best shooter in the draft."

If both Mitchell and Kennard go before the 12th pick that would still be good for Detroit. At least one from the top ten group would fall, maybe two if Zach Collins goes early (or he would be there too which is also good).

I dont want any more big guys. Have you seen the finals? If a big can't do it all, defend rim, defend perimeter and shoot the ball he is a liability on the court in some form. The league is dominated by guards and wings these days.

Yeah, I've been saying as such in other threads. Detroit might not have much of a choice though if Mitchell and Kennard go in the top 11 and one of the points guard don't fall. All would be left are bigs... and Justin Jackson. He might not be bad, but I would still rather go BPA. Especially if it's Markkanen that falls.

Not to offend anyone, but can anyone tell me the stark differences between Kennard and Stauskas? He just screams the next Stauskas to me.

Nope, that's totally fair and the similarities are striking. Kennard is being sold as a plus shooter who has the handles and ability to facilitate a bit and make plays with the ball in his hands... same as Stauskas. Luke is actually a bit smaller than Nik too. Defensively about the same as well. Bad. Of course you would hope Kennard actually pans out unlike Stauskas. Similar skills, but still different people. I wasn't a big fan of Nik back then but I probably would be today if he were in this draft. Different priorities given the way the league is evolving.

Timing would be your answer though. The shooting hype train three years ago wasn't rolling along as strongly as it is today.

If Mitchell is there at #12 I want him...if he's gone I hope Frank is there

Kennard will probably be the next Booker/Klay but I don't see it now - lack of wingspan and athleticism freaks me out big time

I would say with 99% certainty that Kennard won't be the next Thompson. Klay was a plus defender coming out as a prospect. That's a pretty significant part of his value on the floor, although his elite shooting obviously is no joke. Luke is more than likely going to suck on defense regardless of how people want to spin "team" defense instead of individual defense. Detroit doesn't have much of either though.

kennard has a ton of moves to get his shot off but he will likely be a "nash" in the NBA, where he relies on screens to get truly open.

that isn't usually reassuring since nash is a huge anomaly but i think kennard has the combination of skill, IQ, jumpshot and subtle quickness that nash used to succeed.

kennard is obviously more of a SG, closer to manu ginobili. even manu was more of a slasher whereas kennard relies on his shot more.

anyways, besides zach collins and frank ntilikina the pistons have worked out everyone projected to go in their range. that doesn't mean they wouldn't draft anyone else though as they'll likely stay true to their board. last year they didn't even consider the possibility of ellenson because he was top 10 on their board and they thought there was no way he'd fall. if markkanen, isaac, DSJ, etc. falls and they are the highest on their board i'm sure they'll take them.

I personally view guys like Kennard as replaceable parts - yeah his shooting is nice but if you can't stop anyone (or slow them) then I don't want them

I'm still like that with Booker due to his fake tough guy act and his matador D

I'd much prefer Mitchell as I have dreams of a SJ - KCP - Mitchell perimeter defense and a free flowing offense that doesn't involve one guy pounding the air outta the ball

Mitchell
KCP
SJ
Harris/Mook
Dre

Probably doesn't stop anyone inside but in the pace and space age I want my perimeter defense to limit penetration as much as possible and cut off passing lanes with length and athleticism
