I think it's kind of hilarious that the same day they introduce the new GM, they bring in possibly the worst group of players for a draft workout yet. Also, kind of sad.

Big difference between being a potential #1 pick at the age of like 15 or whatever before his knee issues started and being the #1 pick after completing your freshman year of college.
He was the #1 HS recruit, but HS rankings are largely just based on athleticism. There's been so many cases of top ranked high schoolers not really panning out. It's simply impossible to know how Giles' skillset would have developed without the injuries. All I know is his current skillset is not that of a #1 pick even if he still had his athleticism. At least not in my opinion.
I'm still down with taking him at 17 though.

I would guess we're pretty much done scouting 1st round choices at this point. Probably more focused on getting some looks for the Summer League team.
Edit: We've already brought in 10 guys that are potential 1st round picks at this point.

Horst emphasized players with a 'high floor' at his presser today. I think we can rule out guys like Giles and Patton. Who has a 'high floor' around 17? No way they take Hart that early right? Justin Jackson? Derrick White?

trading down makes more sense if this is true.

Agreed.
It is also a terrible draft strategy for the 1st round of the draft. Basically the anti-Hammond philosophy.

Most of that is just spin though, nothing to give any real significance. No GM is going to openly say someone has a higher bust possibility. They're always gong to spin it positive and act confident in their 'floor'

Just watching Giles DX vid and man, he just doesn't seem to have any lift at all. Could barely dunk it seemed. Has there been any talk about how his explosiveness has looked in workouts? Wondering if some of that vid was just early in the season.
Because if he is still moving like that, I'm not sure I am interested in him at 17.

I'm sure the Bucks could spin anyone they take at 17 as high floor.
"Giles was thought to be the most talented player in the draft before his injuries; Once Suki gets him back to health, his floor will be higher than anyone!"
If we focus on what we probably agree is a high floor prospect, based on who we brought in for workouts, I'd say:
Justin Jackson
Donovan Mitchell (if he were to fall to us)
and then I guess Ivan Rabb or Tyler Lydon?
Rabb would be a terribly uninteresting pick IMO. Lydon has a high floor from the sense that I think it's pretty widely accepted that he's among the best shooters in the class, so at the very least, you're adding a good shooter that can theoretically be what we hoped Teletovic would be.

Rabb would be maybe the only potential pick that would piss me off. I just don't see anything about that guy that leads me to believe he will be anything in the NBA.

Re: 2017 NBA DRAFT Part 3
My preference is to trade up for somebody in my top 10, but if we stay put, I can't formulate a super strong argument against anybody in my top 30.
Guys I like more than internet consensus:
Zach Collins
Patton
Hartenstein
White
Bradley
Thornwell
Kaba
Brooks
Guys I like less than internet consensus:
Fox
Mitchell
Bam
Allen
Giles
Wilson
Ferguson
I'm more or less down the middle with everybody else.

I'm actually somewhat interested in Justin Jackson. I know he isn't a stellar prospect and his lack of stocks is an issue, but he can move off-the-ball really well and is a good passer, two very useful skills in a wing. And the fact that his jump in efficiency from beyond the arc came with a massive jump in volume and with mechanical improvements leads me to believe the improvement is genuine and not just the result of becoming older than the competition and a little more comfortable.
Bucks have a serious lack of players that excel at moving off the ball to get open jump shots.
I also wouldn't mind drafting a higher skill guy, rather than some big dude that kinda sucks (i.e., Giles, Anigbogu, Allen, Patton, Adebayo, etc.)

Teams workout tons of players that aren't gonna be on the roster. Some of those guys might be Herd members or maybe even SL filler. Not a sign of bad management at all imo, the workout lists for good teams aren't exactly waves of future stars.

I'm still down with taking him at 17 though.
Quincy Miller was #1 in his class. Seventh Woods used to get a bunch of hype. Bill Walker was a big time prospect back in the day.
The history of preps prospects returning from ACL tears is not fantastic. Add to that the fact that Giles looked gimpy last year and things don't look great.
That said, I'm not sure he is a worse prospect than the other centers mocked in the Bucks' range. I'd prefer him to Allen, probably.
