That was not an inspiring pick back in the day.

That would be something else if we drafted the one guy projected to go somewhere in the vicinity that we pick that's repped directly by Schwartz. 2015 - Schwartz client, 2016 - Excel, 2017 - Schwartz client. At least go back-to-back on the Excel client background for some plausible deniability. Not looking forward to Alex Lasry still trying to spin that the connection isn't the driving force behind a good chunk of their moves.

I went on record as saying there are some merits to all the Schwartz/Excel clients projected to go near where we pick this year, but Giles would be the most tenuous because of the injuries and lack of production thus far, IMO. There would be no way it was a coincidence we were the ones who could have just ignored that, in conjunction with our past history with Schwartz. No sense in pretending anymore. They aren't fooling anybody half paying attention that Schwartz and Kidd have major influence over personnel decisions here.

Hey! Don't forget about TJ Leaf; he's a Schwartz guy too.

And Giles is exactly the type of prospect that Hammond would have targeted too. Boom or bust is pretty much our MO and Giles arguably fits that even without the Power of the Schwartz.

That whole "floor is important" comment makes me think we're picking the other Schwartz guy in that range in Leaf. I wouldn't be upset. He can be Ersan like and that's not bad for #17

If we're actually reading into the floor comment, which I think is BS that can be spun pretty much no matter who they draft, then I could see where people think Leaf has a high floor.

Personally, I think he has an extremely low floor though; maybe the lowest of all the 1st round prospects we've been linked to.

I don't think the comment means anything. You can spin any prospect as having a "high floor" once you pick him. GM's aren't gonna come out and say that the guy they just picked has "high bust potential".

Kennard would be okay, because I would like to add shooting. But I am not sure if Kidd would even see him as playable in his scheme...same might go for Leaf too. I think I like Dorsey in the second more than landing Kennard in the first.

I didn't forget about him. He's not a Schwartz guy, rather Sam Goldfelder. Just the same agency. I acknowledged that. It would be a little fishy, but there are a few Excel guys, and there's nothing suggesting he's not fair value for our spot.

That's a very odd assessment. I don't know why a very productive off the bat, skilled, smart, 6'10" guy with a near 9' standing reach, who tested out as a pretty good athlete + came across the same way upon observation (among prospect leaders in dunks i.e.), and has good basketball genes + tutelage growing up; would not only have a low floor, but the lowest floor of anybody we've been linked to. Why would he have a lower floor than a guy with 2 acl injuries already and hasn't been productive so far in Giles? Or a raw talent like Adebayo who lacks awareness, focus, and shooting as of now? Or Anigbogu who is clumsy and backed him up at UCLA? Or Ferguson who had really poor production, no standout attribute, and is rail thin. I don't get that at all.

Regarding my opinion of Leaf, yes, if Giles injuries prevent him from actually playing then yeah, his floor is obviously the worst. If Giles can stay on the court, I think his floor is much higher than Leaf's. I just don't think Leaf is a good prospect in all honesty. I think he's going to be eaten alive on the defensive end, don't think he'll rebound particularly well, and don't think he'll be able to create for himself. If his shooting doesn't translate, which based on his low volume and free throw shooting, I'm not super confident that it will, I don't think he'll have a place in the NBA.

I think Anigbogu's floor is higher than that, and I don't consider Ferguson as someone we're connected to since he hasn't worked out for us yet.

so if we dont take an excel or schwartz client what theory do we go with next? Bartelstein and make it the holy trifecta? Illuminati confirmed?

If you deny the Schwartz connection at this point, that makes you the loon. We may go in another direction this year. Wouldn't change the obvious reality it's been a driver of some moves in the past.

Exceptions don't make the rule and Schwartz is the agent to a very small % of players in the NBA. We can't realistically fill all or even half our roster with his guys. And then people would really talk. Has to be some plausible deniability. Still isn't much there anymore. But enough for Alex to try and spinmeist with.
