I actually take this to mean that Mitchell doesn't have a promise above our pick and that Kennard, Giles, Patton, and Ferguson all do. While I had been warming to Kennard, Giles, and Patton I think this is a positive development in that some of these mocks seem woefully wrong and even Ntilikina appears to be dropping into our range.
I don't get why FOs make promises like this though. Does anyone think that Charlotte would rather have Frank the Tank than 4 1st INCLUDING the Nets pick this year? I sure don't. I would always give myself outs to make moves if someone knocked my socks off with an offer. Its one thing to give a wide berth to FAs. Its another thing entirely to overpromise picks that will be under team control for 7 years.
There has been a lot of talk about Leaf and while I think he fits in the NBA he really doesn't fit our swarming long armed defense in that there is no sense in pressuring teams when you always have a clean outlet in whoever Leaf would be guarding. My nephew played on an AAU team that had several really good players that just weren't athletic enough to pressure with the rest of the team and it destroyed their defensive structure.
You actually think Charlotte was like "Man that's an incredible offer from Boston and it's definitely more valuable than Frank, but we PROMISED him! No take-backs, sorry Boston"?
