I never said he will, I never said he won't. What Phil has done is inexcusable and he's been atrocious as a GM. Fact is, neither you, NOR I know how Mills will do as a GM. If he signs a player to the worst deal in the NBA and keeps all of his first round picks, congrats, he's done just as good a job as Phil. If he doesn't sign a player to a bad deal and keeps his picks, he's done better.
Fact is, Phil has been **** and needs to go.
While we're dealing with facts, let's accept the fact that Mills's is Dolan's guy and, while, we don't know how he'll do as a POBO, him being so easily influenced by Dolan isn't a good sign
Can we also accept the fact that Dolan has stayed out of basketball decisions for years now? Mills being Dolan's guy means nothing in terms of being a FO executive if Dolan stays out, and there is no reason to believe otherwise given recent history and how he's tried to stay out of the media for years. In addition, if anything, being Dolan's guy might give him a longer leash so we can have a proper rebuild, which is something Phil has half-assed since day 1.
Dolan has stayed out of it for years because Phil has autonomy in his contract. So you're indirectly crediting Phil's contractual parameters for keeping Dolan out.
Further, why would Dolan give his guy a longer leash when he's hired his guys in the past and pressured them when he felt it was necessary? We were both watching during the Isiah years and no examples are needed. Dolan's guys probably feel indebted to Dolan to do what he says because he signs their checks and controls their livlihood.
I agree Phil has half assed the rebuild. But we still have flexibility and while everyone who hates Phil pisses on the fact that we have our picks, we do. We have the opportunity to get a good player and team him with KP, or trade KP and pair the return with number 8. Is it ideal? Fck no. Is it what Phil planned? Again, fck no. But aside from the circus, it's not impossible to turn it around if we get a good player in the draft.
Do I want Phil to stay? Nope. He's embarrassed himself. But I'm not confident with Mills because he's going to do what Dolan says. The devil I know is better than the devil I don't at this point.
As far as the circus goes, we're the knicks. It'll always be a circus. Our team has to put it's head down and win
