The future of the team.

Just try to get to the second round of the playoffs and maybe win a Division Title or two along the way, you don't have to go for broke immediately. Let's just continue to build a fan base and ride out the Warriors / Cavaliers (and possibly Celtics years) but still set attainable goals and certainly be competitive. Winning our first NBA Championship (hopefully in our lifetimes) doesn't even have to be with any of these guys on the team right now but they can still lay the foundation for future consistent successes.

Ok, now that Howard is a Hornet, what additional moves need to be made to take Charlotte to top 3 in the East?

Superstars: none
Stars: Kemba, Howard, Batum
Developing stars: Kaminski, Zeller
Role Players: Marvin, MKG, Lamb

I don't think the roster as currently constructed gets Charlotte to the conference finals. Needs shooting and depth in the back court. And I don't think adding Mitchell, Kennard or Collins at #11 moves the needle. The Hornets also need a veteran backup point guard.

Cho needs another trade. And the Hornets still need a superstar.

I don't think Batum is really a star. He's a solid starter, but not a star. I also don't think Kaminsky or Zeller have the potential to develop into stars. I think Zeller is about maxed on potential, and even a more efficient Kaminski will never be a star. My list would look like this.

Superstars: none
Stars: Kemba, Howard
Developing stars: MKG
Role Players: Marvin, Lamb, Batum, Zeller, Kaminski

Though I don't think he'll ever reach his potential, if you guys remember when MKG came back two years ago from injury and played in a handful of games, he actually looked more dominating. I think he still has by far the most potential of anyone on this roster.

The Howard move allows this team to remain competitive and probably make the playoffs the next two year, with a possible 2nd round trip. What needs to happen now is we must get a star/Kemba level player out of this draft. If there is anyway short of trading Kemba to move into the top 6 picks, we need to do it. A trade of Marvin or MKG plus the 11 pick to get to 5 or 6 would mean picking Tatum or Isaac. THAT would set us up to be competitive now and possibly have two to three allstar level players.

I stand by my Love for Marvin/Lamb +11+ future protected first, and Sessions +31 for Beverley trade ideas. Then sign Thabo with MLE. Draft Monk, Mitchell or Kennard.

Make a run at 2nd round of playoffs thru 2019. Gotta have a playoff team in Feb of 2019 during ASG to keep MJ happy and keep positive vibes towards Charlotte during that week.

Summer of 2019, re-evaluate everything because Kemba extension will be expensive.

How are we drafting Monk, Mitchell or Kennard after giving away our pick for Love?

After last night I would not put anything past him. Getting the best player and moving up was pretty darn impressive. I hate the Love idea but really like Beverly. Maybe Lamb and 31 for Beverly and decline Sessions.

I keep thinking about adding Dennis Smith to this team. A player that talented who just so happens to fill an immediate need sitting just out of reach is tantalizing. We should make a strong play to trade up to 7 or 8 to get him. The Wolves are probably targeting Collins or Markkanen if they can't get Isaac and one of them will likely be there at 11. And the Knicks are the Knicks, we'd be stupid to not at least try.

Edit: I'd also feel a lot better about the future of this team because Kemba could very likely decide he wants to play somewhere else two years from now. I'd hate to see him go, but we'd be in a good spot with a hometown heir apparent just waiting to take over.

And Charlotte will be in the same boat with Howard gone in 2 years. The Collins pick would look pretty good then. I'd love to have Smith drop, by the way. But I don't go GET him.

Now we try to win division crowns and move as close to the ECF as possible while continuing to build our fan base. The city of Charlotte would be going insane if we made it to the ECF, it would make Nashville hockey crowds seem like a one-man party!

Tatum is probably the third pick now, eff Boston and the Celtics, I'm not dealing with them!

I think the future is we need to attempt to win as much as possible while Kemba is under his current contract. It will either work out to where he sticks because he sees the potential, or he leaves and we are at rock bottom again anyways.

The NBA for the next 2-3 years is all Warriors. Everyone else is just playing for 2nd place at this point.

So roster looks like this now ?

Kemba - Monk - Weber (option ?)
Batum - Lamb
MKG - Graham
Williams - Kaminsky
Howard - Cody - O'Bryant - Tobey ?

Team missing a defensive pg to complement Kemba & Monk obviously (Chalmers type) and a 3D (i wish you could get Toupane..)

The weakest position to adress is obviously forward position, but i just don't see a score first pf like Love here. If his previous teams wanted to get rid of him, the reason is quite obvious (he belongs to empty stats piling teams like the knicks..).

You forgot Bacon. I might be wrong, but I imagine he is much more likely to make the active roster than a fifth big man.
