Re: 2017 Draft Thread
If the Top 6 is set, I'd say discussions at 7 are between Zach Collins and Frank Ntilikina.

Targets with Roster as stands:
1 - Josh Jackson | SF | Kansas (Most likely unavailable, 5% chance)

4 - De'Aaron Fox | PG | Kentucky (unlikely to be available 25% chance)
5 - Dennis Smith Jr | PG | NC State (pretty good chance he's available, 75% chance)
6 - Jarrett Allen | C | Texas (Really good chance available, 95% chance)
7 - OG Anunoby | SF | Indiana (Very good chance available, 99% chance)
8 - John Collins | PF | Wake Forest (Very good chance he's available, 99% chance)
--------------------------------
Targets if we move someone:

Dunn better skill is defense and he can guard 6"6 guys without a problem. Then the best SG in the roster will be in restricted minutes for half season. Tyus is a good young player but nowhere close to be an starter in a .500 team. Why do you think will be a problem to pick a PG?

The problem is all three (3) of those teams have literally crap to offer us unless SAC wants to part with WCS and #10 if they believe Skal is ready to take a larger role this year.
They might not though
Mavs have been reported to go after Holliday, Carlisle is not exactly a player development guy and obviously PG is the hardest position, need a lot of patience
Knicks have money to spend in FA too, maybe Phil is in love with Lauri.
Who knows?
Just as easily could be that Wolves end up with four PGs on the roster and no leverage
Good point....I do remember reading somewhere that DAL was going to try to sign both Holiday brothers. I guess I've always expected Jrue to stay with the Pelicans for a chance to play with AD and Boogie.

Interesting...
Care to explain why you think Ntilikina over the likes of DSJ and Markkanen? Based on what Thibs has been staying, I can see Collins in the mix.

Thankfully Dunn's ability to play off ball and his defense we wouldn't be stuck if that happened.MN7725 wrote:Slim Tubby wrote:MN7725 wrote:
If that's the only offer, still worth doing just to get back some of the flexibility lost from losing the '18 pick in Payne trade
That's if Wolves don't have interest in the guys likely to be taken by NYK and Dallas

It would be nice to get some clarity on the PG position though, whether that be keeping Rubio, Dunn & Jones or moving one or two of the three.
Personally I'd look to move Jones but that depends upon how Thibs & company feel but I like Rubio & Dunn running the point and I'd see if I could get an asset back for him even if it's a late 1st round pick

Personally, I'd take Fox (not likely) or DSJ if either is available at #7 and never look back. If that scenario played out, I would look for new homes for Rubio and Dunn and role with Tyus as the backup PG.

No way the team goes into the season with a rookies PG. Rubio maybe traded if a good vet PG is secured. DSJ isn't going to be the main PG. Tyus plus DSJ as PG duo is crazy talk. I also feel like the pick is getting shopped the hell out it right now.

I agree about taking DSJ, it looks like he'll be the guy with the highest ceiling available at #7. Similar to last year I'd hold off moving Rubio until DSJ (or Dunn) demonstrates they can handle the starting PG role. Personally, I look to move Jones in the short term and potentially Rubio at the trade deadline.

I've just felt for at least a month that he's the type of player Thibs would covet. I could be wrong though.

Agree on both PG prospects.
Disagree on dealing Rubio and Dunn. Rubio can be used as a bridge. Starting a rookie PG likely puts the playoff out of reach for another year. Meanwhile, Dunn's versatile enough to defend two (possibly three depending on the opponent) positions.

It's dangerous to make decisions or adjust your roster based only on what you expect for the next season because this team will still be struggling just to make the playoffs. DSJ would get plenty of experience the next 1-2 years when we start to contend. With that said, SA is going to have a tough time re-signing Patty Mills and that would be my favorite target in FA. Mills could start and DSJ can learn the ropes behind him until he's ready to start. To be fair, I watched DSJ play 20+ times this year and I'm guessing not a lot of posters have seen much of him in action. He's the real deal and was considered a better prospect than Fultz before he tore his ACL prior to his SR year in HS. You're probably right though...I'd say there's a high probability that we deal the pick.

You and NWO are probably right about Rubio if we do draft a PG as far as acting as a "bridge" until the rookie is ready to start.

I've rarely, if ever seen that source be correct. The Mavs have absolutely nothing to give us.
If the top 6 plays out the way it looks, I wouldn't need much to trade down 2 spots.

I don't think DSJ is going to last in the league with his knees and playing style. Very possibly a worse DRose with even shorter shelf life. Thibs would be his coach FFS.

Where did I say it was a problem?
My post was about how I don't think Wolves have as much leverage as some posters do, and there likely won't be a bidding war for #7
And that's why I would be cool with even a weak, protected future pick in order to move back (doubtful even that will be offered)
I think DSJ is 2nd best prospect, and wouldn't be really looking to move any of the 4 PGs initially if that's how it worked out. But having a lot of players at a loaded position in the league likely doesn't result in a great trade return, as Philly found with Noel

Re: 2017 Draft Thread
Darren Wolfson tweeting about trading back to 9 with the Mavs. Even hinted at the possibility of involving Rubio. Wasn't really specific.
I'd be fine with taking Collins at 7. Probably one of the few here who would be OK with it.
