This is how I've felt. I don't believe you could set up both Aaron Gordon and Jonathan Isaac for success by playing them together as forwards. One of them is going to be playing out of their better position. You take Isaac if you think he's the best player available, but it's not a great fit with Gordon.

Yeah I like the fit of Gordon/Isaac defensively, but I have become a bit more unsure about the offensive end.

We shall see.

The Gordon and Issac factor is an issue unless you are going to try Issac at the 5.

I do not think anyone on this team is untradable.

Right now, I think they are just going to take best available and see what happens.

My feeling is Issac might go higher.

I don't believe that Gordon at the three was the unmitigated disaster that everyone puts forward these days. I thought he demonstrated himself capable of playing quality defense against tough matchups on the perimeter. The problem is that it dragged him away from the basket so his rebound and block rates plummeted.

At the offensive end, he didn't have the athletic advantage he enjoys when he is matched up against bigs and Vogel's offense was fairly rigid in roles. The role Gordon was given as a three was not one that accentuated his skill set. Again though, while the shooting percentages don't impress, I thought there was pretty evident growth in a role he was never well-suited for.

I'm fairly unconcerned with whether you call Gordon a SF or a PF. I believe his production is going to be dictated more by the roles in Vogel's offense and the offensive skill sets of the complementary pieces in the frontcourt. Vogel had the fortune of a Granger, Stephenson, and George succession in Indiana. Everyone that filled the SF role in Vogel's offense struggled for us last year. The offense has to better accentuate the skills of its constituent pieces next year.

My assumption is that teams believe Isaac's shooting ability will allow him to play away from the basket on offense in a spot up role in a way that Gordon's does not.

Who is Nicholas Sciria?

Can we get away from a lineup having a PG, SG, SF, PF and C? Today's Nba is evolving and changing. The Warriors play small ball lineup with Curry, Klay, Igoudola, Durant and Green. I posted this article earlier:

http://www.myajc.com/sports/basketball/iwundu-may-without-position-and-that-good-thing/OYGZG916V63jk53kU2v1jM/

Every player should not be required to have a position. I would like to see us play 3 guards and 2 forwards in our lineup on the floor.

Say we draft Isaac- Payton, Ross, Fournier, Isaac, Gordon, try that lineup

Say we draft DSJ- Payton, DSJ, Ross, Gordon and hopefully draft Jordan Bell, try that lineup

I could create more combinations but I need to wait until after the draft to see who we get in the draft and up until our 15 man roster is solidified after the draft, free agency and trades.

We can get away from positions the minute we can rely on players becoming capable of playing both sides of the court.

GS can do that because Klay is a good defender and can guard most SF's.

GS can do that because Klay is a good defender and can guard most SF's.

GS does that because they have multiple players that can switch on screens and alternate who they are guarding depending on match ups.

One thing we can credit Hennigan for doing is valuing versatility. Payton can guard 1s and 2s. Gordon can guard 1-5 (in a lot of situations). If we keep bringing in players with defensive versatility like Isaac, then that means we can keep our starting 5 on the floor without having to sub them out due to match up problems. In fact, we'll be the ones forcing other teams to match up to us!

Here's the beauty in action... Isaac starts by matching up with Seth Allen, a 6’1 guard who was one of the better backcourt scorers in the ACC last season. After a screen, he switches onto another 6’1 guard in Justin Robinson. After another screen, he finds himself on Zach LeDay, a powerful 6’7 big with scoring ability. Isaac bodies him up and denies him at the rim.

Oh yeah and when I mean creating match up problems... I mean stuff like this... Having a 6'11 (and possibly still growing) big man who can take the ball at the top and drive through the lane with a smooth ass Eurostep like this...

Combine that with high IQ passing and an accurate quick release 3 capability like this...

There are no Centers in the league that can do this, unless you count Giannis or Thon. Isaac's upside is intensely high and we'd be at the forefront of the league in terms of innovation and changing the way the game is played.

That's so odd. Do other teams have it? If so then he and his agent are trying to land elsewhere or have already gotten a promise in the top 5.

Hard to believe we would draft a player without getting his medicals and i'm not sure how true it is but hammond said he didn't work out for us either......so either this is some epic smokescreen or.....Isaac isn't the pick

I wouldn't do it unless I had them. However, teams share medical reports frequently. So if Isaac hasn't released them to everyone, it's possible for the Magic to get them from other teams. Unless, teams that have them are locked in on Isaac and want to keep that for themselves, which could be the case here. I'm going to assume they exist and someone in the top 4 has them. His agent likely gave them to the teams that Isaac wants to go to.

Injuries were there least of my worries for Isaac. He looked fine wherever I saw him play. His asthma was what I kinda worried about because I did notice he had to be taken out of games early because of it but that will resides in time.

I also find it very odd he didn't work out for us. Wonder if PHX really have him a promise or maybe Boston?

Well according to the podcast, The lakers celtics and the suns have his medicals and has worked out for them....so i guess him not working out for teams below the 4th was true after all.....all this is either a smokescreen or yes like you said he may have gotten a promise from a top 4 team.

Listen to the podcast again.

Also mentions that he "may crash the party" and slip
