Why Perry Jones should get another chance

Post#1 » by sleestak33 » Thu Jun 22, 2017 11:53 am

I'm still completely baffled as to why the Thunder gave up on Lamb and Jones as both players clearly had a much higher upside than Roberson who after 4 years in the NBA is actually at his absolute worst offensively and his shooting has somehow gotten worse (didn't think that was possible). Lamb was averaging around 11 pts. and progressing nicely when they acquired Caron Butler and inexplicably just benched him and never really gave him another chance. Now Lamb's per 36 minute averages are 19 points and 8 rebounds (compare that to Roberson's 8/6). Then you have Perry Jones who scored 32 against the Clippers and had 20 in another game showing that he had the potential to be a good shooter and scorer plus a defensive nightmare with that length and they just basically gave up on him. Had OKC put Jones in the position that Roberson has been in for the last 4 years as the starter and continued to work with him defensively obviously we would have a tremendously better overall player and an actual offensive threat yet here we are stuck with Roberson who they absolutely have to get rid of now that KD isn't here with his scoring. I say bring Jones back since he's not even in the NBA and there's nobody they could draft that would be better and hopefully they can get a decent backup PG at #21.

Do you have any opinions on anything other than roberson? It's seriously to the point where I'm considering blocking you just because it's the exact same post every time.
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.

In his defense, he posts about Kanter a lot too.

While I also hate Roberson, and wish Perry would've been given a chance to develop more, he wasn't and didn't. If he could play, at this point, he'd be in the league somewhere. I mean, nobody else wanting him, like the great Kendrick Perkins, while he is still young enough to play, has to mean something.

perry jones is the only player to score 30 more points in game while deceased.

7 feet tall small forwards who are quick, long and can shoot are kind of rare (some irony here isn't there...)

So if he was any - ANY - good, because of said attributes, he would be in the league. All the "on paper" attributes in the world weren't enough for PJ3. A whole lot of glaring issues. And I even remember reading once he was one of the worst rebounders of all time for a guy his size too. Maybe we should have given him more chances, but again, he'd be in the league if he could even slightly apply those 'talents' on court.
