Wrt to porzingis talks and other trades that make us contenders now, If we are trying to build a stacked team right now that can compete with the warriors, avery has a lot more strategic value to us in terms of someone with ability to guard curry

This was my thought process as well. I'd get rid of Crowder way quicker than I do Bradley. My logic in wanting Butler so badly is that he and Bradley would help guard some of the shooters on the Warriors and level the playing field for us.

It's all about the contract. AB is going to be making $20 mil a year after next season. Crowder is locked into a great value for the next few years. I would try to place AB or Smart in one of these trades as we can't afford to keep both. Same goes for IT, although I think the organizational damage might be too great if we moved on from him before his contract is over.

Except Bradley is a free agent after this year and because he's been playing well, he's put himself in the $20m/yr range. And I can't see us paying over $50m/yr for IT and Bradley. We are totally fine with the rotation of IT, smart, rozier and even brown.

I think passing on fultz is a signal that we're committing to IT.

No you clearly don't get the concept of a hypothetical as evidenced by your responses. I'll just put you on ignore.SmartWentCrazy wrote:

I disagree that Ainge will have someone other than Fultz at 1, but if he did I want him to just pick the dude. Don't get cute and risk the Lakers/Sixers taking your guy, just select the guy you see as best in the draft. Trying to scratch out additional marginal value isn't worth the risk of not getting who you want.
I'm not talking about you at least you gave me a reasonable response. It's one thing to disagree with the premise of a hypothetical, it's another entirely to respond ludicrously to it. If you don't want to participate in it just leave it. I mean come on.
The circumstances don't matter in this equation, I don't know how else to explain it. The first pick is so much more valuable than the third. The gap is enormous, huge, i really don't know how else to explain my position. Who we want to take doesn't really matter in the end. They could have Frank Ntilikina as their highest rated guy on their board, im STILL asking for pick 3 and Simmons for my pick, take it or leave it.
Nailed it.

Feel better? I would've held out for more or taken Fultz. Hope I'm wrong and the Celtics are right.

So apparently the whole Porzingis rant by Phil was just to send a message that he didn't appreciate him skipping the exit interview? Phil really is becoming a crotchety old man. He should have yelled, "And you kids, STAY OFF MY LAWN!" at the end of his interview.

Maybe if the Celtics still had the number one overall pick, Porzingis would already be a Celtic

Honestly? A little.
I'm not happy about the trade. I too would have held out for much more or just taken Fultz. But I do feel vindicated that that was at least worthy of discussion in the trade thread.

I agree. That is why I think Ainge was too quick to pull the trigger. Who knows if that lakers or kings pick will end up being good. Really thought Fultz filled a need but obviously Ainge and Wyc didn't think that.

If no trades happen tonight, I will seriously question why we pulled the trigger on the #1/#3 trade so early. Without a trade it makes no sense.

I don't think there will be a trade to be honest. I think Ainge simply didn't like Fultz and had no plans on taking him. The guy Ainge likes (which I think is Fox or Smith) will be there at 3.
We are getting to the point where Ainge has waaay to many picks and they are just going to end up being burned because 25 man rosters are not allowed in the NBA.

Yeah I agree. I think Ainge made up his mind on Fultz and pulled the trigger early just in case something did come up where he could land another key piece rather than settling for this haul on draft night.
I don't think he wanted to trade #1 straight up for anyone, so breaking it into #3 and LAL/SAC pick allows him to still make calls on big deals using #3, but now with some of the value from #1 broken out that he can hold onto.
The only thing that really has me worried is that they haven't worked out Jackson, which makes me wonder whether they even know who they want at #3. How can they get this far and not have worked out the guy who was presumed to be the 3rd player of a 3 man tier at the top of the draft? Makes me think Danny really did think he was going to work out another deal for a star, but it just never happened (or hasn't yet).

Re: Summer Trade/(OffSeason) Thread 2017
So, not sure if its been mentioned already, but I'm on board with a Paul George trade that includes one top pick. If the Celtics traded either the LAL/SAC pick or Bkn pick, with either being top-3 protected, the LAC pick (which I think is lottery-protected), and a 2nd-rounder or two from this year, is that enough? I think it would probably be the best deal Indiana gets.
I'd make that move first and then see if you can make a reasonable move for Porzingis or just draft one of Isaac/Tatum/Jackson. If George is a Celtic, I'd trade #3 and Crowder/Bradley for Porzingis and see if maybe Indiana can take on Joakim Noah's contract. So to break it down:
Bos in: Zinger, George
Ind in: Bkn or LAL/Sac pick (top-3 protected), LAC 1st-round pick (lottery protected), pick #37, pick #53/56 (why not?), C Joakim Noah
NYK in: pick #3, Crowder/Bradley (whichever one they want more), Zeller?
Having a starting 5 of Thomas, Bradley/Brown, George, Porzingis, and Horford might not win a championship, but certainly could contend. I actually think it's a really good matchup against Golden State and a finals upset wouldn't be out of the question in my eyes. If George decides to bolt, it's a bummer but not something DA can't recover from. DA still has plenty of high quality picks to draft a stud replacement and he can groom them next to Porzingis. I think there's a good chance PG stays if the Celtics can win the ECF and take Golden State to 6-7 games. If the Celtics win the finals, he'd almost be a lock to stay. It's risky, but I say go for it. Especially with the way the new cap projections are looking.

Re: Summer Trade/(OffSeason) Thread 2017
Trade #3, Crowder, Smart & future 1sts for Porzingis.
Renounce all free agents except for Olynyk (cap hold under 8 mil) & Jackson.
Sign Hayward & "stashed rookies" (Zizic, Yabusele & Nader).
Thomas / Rozier / Jackson
Bradley / Smart
Hayward / Brown / Nader
Porzingis / Olynyk / Yabusele
Horford / Zizic
That is 98 million+ in salary until we sign Kelly's deal, then we're over the cap.

Re: Summer Trade/(OffSeason) Thread 2017
Olynyk is gone. And I do expect a deal today because Ainge needs to shed another $2M with the cap going down to $99M. At present he's about $4M short of being able to offer Hayward or another free agent the max, even after renouncing Olynyk.
I expect a player to be shipped to an under-the-cap team for a future pick or a player with a much lower salary. The obvious candidates are smart, Bradley or Crowder.
Houston is shopping Patrick Beverly for the same reason.

You take Cleveland and Golden State off that list and the rest of these teams are all paying lux tax to be capped out as 2nd round outs at best. Pretty telling of how awful NBA managements are right now..teams have no clue how to work.
