Here's my response to that. Look what 3/D players cost in free agency last year. I think I'd rather pay under $8 million/year over the next 3 seasons than have to pay a similar or worse player $18 million/year over 4 seasons to come here, even if it costs the No. 7 pick.
I think most agree this is the year to spend our cap before the next couple years. If I use the assumption that I would like to spend in FA this year, i know I am going to spend too much on a role player already(unless you think the wolves can get a big fish, which I wouldn't be targeting). I just much prefer the long term potential(#7) plus the FA overpay vs. solid/good player now plus the FA overpay.
And again this survey is in a vacuum. If you gave me the option of Jackson/Tatum/Isaac at #7, i don't make deal for Crowder. If they are gone, and my choices are Markannen, Collins, PGs, etc. I look harder at Crowder + picks for the #7 being an option.
The other piece to all this is that I am still not onboard that Lavine has to be a 6th man and he and Wiggins can't play together. Perhaps what we see now will be true 2-3 years from now, but still optimistic that both have the physical skills to play together.
