Why would pay the super max to player that is not a superstar on team that isn't contending for anything. I'm glad that we haven't locked ourselves into mediocrity with Butler for the next seven years. Hopefully we have a lot of great young talent meshing together by the time the Warriors run is over.

Well jimmy can't do it alone, they were responsible for not making a good enough team with him.. On the super max, only 2-3 players deserve it really but if those are the rules( by making all NBA teams)then he did deserve it. Can't find many 2 way players like him, he's unique. So now if the bulls draft a new kid that turns into a star but not a super star, 4 years later they are going to trade him ? Bulls all these years just saving as much money as they can, like they make nothing lol. Unfortunately Reinsdorf might be the real problem here,he don't care about the team or the fans. Maybe fans should stop caring too.

All I gotta say is Pax must've been really high (on Kanenball) to do this. Bye Niko

Anyways, atleast they picked a lane and stopped being half-pregnant. They never had the balls to go all-in to spend on vets and build a over-the-cap team which requires creativity, lots of trades etc...

Could not agree more, this is why I've been saying that with this direction, lack of assets received from the trade, that this will sink GarPax and maybe, just maybe the Bulls can get a stable and competent executive that will oversee the long rebuild. Because this is going to take YEARS IMO.

Nailed it DJ.

Nowhere to hide for Fred, Gar and Pax now. The sword hangs on their heads.

It will be at least 6 or 7 years before we even come close to making the playoffs again. That is the reality. Even when that eventually happens we will be right back where we are now. A middle of the pack team elminated in the first or second round. It won't be worth it.

What was your plan? Go for it with Jimmy, never win, pay Jimmy the super max, never win

That plan is not much better.

The best hope was a new FO without ruining the asset that was Butler.

Welp.

They've likely screwed over the next GM even if we were to get one in a few years.

I think it was time to trade Butler but after knowing the haul I would have rather tried to have him recruit. This is going to be a long painful path.

Unlike Derrick Rose, most players don't take 2 years to come back.

Yep exactly. And LeBron will be past his prime..For us, best case scenario, we draft Michael Porter next year + other studs in 2019, 2020. Then make a run for Anthony Davis in 2021. Like I said, best case scenario :D

We gotta be really bad. Decline Rondo, buyout Wade, trade Lopez, let Niko walk and tank tank tank. Michael Porter Jr. is worth going 9-72 for and that's what it's going to take.

we wont have to do to much, we will be bad regardless which should be the plan. My hope is we sign some respected vets to help the maturation process for the young players. I assume wade will be bought out.

I'm not thrilled, but I'm at least pleased there is a direction.

I also think we're underrating the assets we got. This is a start. There's no trade that's going to fill the coffers immediately; I have the sense the idiocy of New York and New Jersey a few years back led to unrealistic expectations regarding compensation.

Dunn, Lavine, and Marki all have potential. They're all young and talented. The Bulls were looking at going nowhere with Butler and getting nothing for him when he left. This is the alternative. Not perfect, but palatable, and not the unmitigated **** of yet another totally wasted resource.

Damn I will miss Butler. Certainly my favorite player since the dynasty days. But this was the move that had to be made. So, onwards, to the dark days of ping pong balls and scouting college games and, hopefully, some new leadership as well.

There were many that wanted to trade butler for less during the season and start the rebuild. Congratulations. This Bulls front office is worse at their job that Trump is as president

There was no path to near or mid-term contention (the odds of picking a great player in the mid-first are as long as stringing multiple picks that are better than Butler).

I do think we could have been Celtics level good with adequate talent around Butler, but he never got a chance to lead a team of players who in any way complemented his game (aside maybe Niko... who isn't even good).

There is literally no one else to scapegoat. GarPax are on an island.
KC: Do you still think you're a championship-caliber team?
Gar: I never said that and correct me if I'm wrong.
KC: You were asked that question at the news conference announcing Thibodeau's dismissal and you answered yes

Hoping we get the upside that Dunn showed last year in SL.
