Re: Welcome To Charlotte: The Dwayne Bacon Thread
All the meh. Turned down clear first round talents to fund an MJ golf trip and take a guy who may have gone undrafted.

This guy is raw, young talent. Give him chance to develop and he should be able to work into the rotation.
The Charlotte Hornets will win their first round series against the Boston Celtics in the 2021 Playoffs

We really missed a chance to get a clear 1st round talent for dirt cheap. I wonder how much cash we got for the pick? Warriors pad 3.5 mil for 38.

Re: Welcome To Charlotte: The Dwayne Bacon Thread
To get an idea of why he is a 2nd round pick... Basically, sounds like a selfish Hendo, who half-asses on defense.

Although Bacon has the tools to be an efficient scorer, he lacks a certain level of basketball IQ to do so consistently. Tough shots are usually reserved for late in the clock, but not in his case, as he will hunt the first scoring opportunity that presents itself. Taking a number of long, early-clock mid-range jumpers is a very difficult way to make a living in the NBA, and is only compounded by Bacon's inability to create separation to have these attempts be less aggressively contested.
He isn't the most elusive ball-handler, and lacks a certain level of quickness off the dribble that allows defenders to square him up and keep him in front, which is further hindered by his unwillingness to create for teammates, evidenced by his assist to field-goal attempt ratio of 0.12.
When Bacon is engaged, and willing to sit in a stance, he can be a reliable defender, using his size and length to keep the ball contained and contest perimeter jumpers. He has the strength to check most wings, and may even be able to slide up to the four in bench lineups. Unfortunately, the effort level and focus needed to be an impact defender fluctuates from possession to possession. Mental lapses of over committing or being late to closeout, as well as simply poor closeouts has certainly hurt his image as a defender.

Sounds like we will absolutely hate this guy. Maybe he proves us wrong.
Just don't understand it when there were a few clear 1st round talents available at 31.

Not thrilled but maybe Cho and co did their homework and this dude can play for us in a couple of years. Bad trade though . We got ripped.

Re: Welcome To Charlotte: The Dwayne Bacon Thread
Not going to sugar coat it this was a stupid trade and pick. This franchise will never turn the corner if we don't get better at scouting. Low IQ, selfish players do not make it in this league. Do we not remember Hairston? That wasn't very long ago.
I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it.

Hell, there were 10 maybe 15 better options at 40.

Re: Welcome To Charlotte: The Dwayne Bacon Thread
This reeks of a classic Cho/MJ draft day inability to pivot when a player they covet is off the board.
Maybe I'm being cynical, but this looks like they had their heart set on someone at 31 (Swanigan, White, Hart) and when they were taken, panicked and moved back. Adding cash to move back 9 spots after moving up 10 is a sh*t stain on 2 previously brilliant offseason moves (D12; Monk at 11). IMO, it weakens the trade we made to get Howard because we essentially moved into the latter part of the first round.... only to move back to where we were prior.

If Bacon really was there guy all along, then I guess, Kudos for trading back and getting cash. What did we see in Bacon that others missed?
