Only thing left to do for the offseason is trade for George and James!

so with the lack of movement by Celtics today makes getting a max player difficult as well. We need to unload some $ to get to Max space.

Crowder and Clippers pick or something is better than getting bullied into Randle + 27/28 for the Pacers and is worth the gamble for us to try to resign him. Pacers need LA to ante up or they can ship him elsewhere.

So now the wiretap has us engaging on PG trade, but implies we would give up Tatum? Why would we trade Tatum in a gamble for Geroge if we wouldn't give him for Butler.

As for Butler, I was going to say we didn't have the right mix of sub-premium assets to match 7+Dunn - but the LAL/Sacto pick might do it. Otherwise BK17/BK18/Jaylen were too much.

I say let Indy use us for leverage against LA. LA is lowballing them but we can outbid them with a better lowball offer, and the Pacers could send him here cheap as a way of saying screw you to LA. (I think an underrated factor in Gasol to Lakers was Chicago's lowball offfers.) Even if he leaves for LA we help our draft pick.

I wouldn't even be mad at facilitating PG to Cleveland by taking on Love for minor assets redirected to Indiana.

I guess there's all summer now. Trade options open up if we strike out on FA and have space to burn. We could take on Love, even Carmelo, Wade, I would have even thought Howard. Are there options for preserving 2018 cap space? Generous 1 year contract for Kelly O? Take on Wade's expiring contract?

Is there a Paul George thread elsewhere that I missed?

I don't know the salary implications, who has to move or what's up with KO but sign Blake.

IT/Rozier
Bradley/Smart
Crowder/Brown
Griffin/Tatum/Jerebko
Horford/KO/Zizic

with two more loaded picks for 18. thats a nice set up for today tomorrow and beyond.

Some tidbits...

"it couldn't have come at a worse time for me"
"a gut-punch. we had many conversations over the summer about players we'd like to add." - on learning of George's intention to leave in free agency

"Right now there is enough on the board that we feel good enough, that we can pull the trigger anytime"

"We're not going to make a bad deal."

"There’s a lot of options where we take back players, potential all-stars and all-stars, that keep us competitive." - on potential Paul George trade

Why are we trading Jordan Mickey, Tyler Zeller, and Demetrius Jackson to Indiana?

Bradley definitely sounds like a piece that could "keep them competitive"

If we clear the decks enough to get Hayward, then get PG could we be looking at

IT
Brown
Hayward
George
Horford

With Marcus, Zizic, Tatum first off the bench?

Now that the draft is over with, here are some things to monitor next:

Paul George situation - Last I heard, there were serious talks between Cs-Pacers (but who knows?). Does he end up in LA (affects the PHI pick gave us). Does he end up in CLE? (seems unlikely, but if he does, good luck beating them). I'm still not in favor of an overpay unless he agrees to re-sign (can this be even arranged?). I'm glad we didn't give in to the demands of the Bulls FO.
IT's health - Why isn't anyone more concerned about this? He's still unable to run. No decision has been reached yet if he'll have surgery. If he does, what's our contingency? Smart as starting PG to begin the season? We'd need PG depth that can still be addressed in FA.
Hayward or Griffin - Ainge's presscon just reiterates the importance of that max cap space. To me, it's more likely than not that we end up with one or the other. I'll be majorly bummed if that doesn't happen. This is the last offseason we'll have enough cap space to sign a difference-maker.
Who goes? - One or two of Smart/Crowder/KO/Bradley would have to be traded (or renounced in KO's case) for max cap space unless Hayward or Griffin agrees to a discount (not likely to happen).

And LOL at listening to whatever the other fanbases are saying. We heard the same **** last offseason and we still ended up the last team standing not named Warriors and Cavs. Their lame franchises are probably in the sorry state they're in because their GMs don't know what they're doing.

Image

Having said that, I'd be pissed if we don't end up with one of George/Hayward/Griffin. It's clearly a major goal of this offseason and all previous moves/non-moves were lined up to achieve that.

How do we even get to max cap space?
Read on Twitter

We still wanna bring Zizic over, so not thrilled with that. Trading Terry for future pick alone doesn't do it. You're looking at dumping someone out of AB/Smart/Jae for a future pick or cheap player to a team with cap space. Not thrilled with that either. Esp. since 2 of those teams we don't want to make better (BKN, SAC).

Might need Hayward\Griffin to say they'll take less to force a sign & trade???? That gets them back to max and their team something rather than nothing.

Trading Rozier & Jackson, stashing Yabs, plus waiving/renouncing all our FAs gets us to $350K short of max. If we lose Bradley (trade for future pick) instead of KO's cap hold, we make it to max cap space.

S&T with Utah would be ideal. Didn't they just lose Trey Lyles? ;) Stretch-big spot just opened up. Hope they have good burritos there in Utah. Cs also have a cadre of young guys Jazz can choose from if they plan on building around Gobert -- Yabu, Nader, Kadeem, Semi, Jabari, etc.

One thing about Ainge is that I don't worry about having the money needed to sign Hayward. Unless EVERYONE is reading the situation wrong, he's all in on Gordon. He'll find a way. I do want to go on the record as saying I think we make a legit run at PG and have a strong shot at taking him.

Scalabrine's prediction: PG to Cleveland, Love to Bos, picks and fill to Indy.

Of course, he was 100% wrong on our draft picks

Love and Lamarcus may be the only stars I don't want at all. I'd even take Melo over them and that is saying something.

Does the above assume we dump Mickey as well? Is that just assumed as the base case (like getting rid of Zeller, JJ, Amir etc.).

I rarely see him mentioned.

If Smart/Bradley/Crowder get sent out for George we should bring back Tony Allen

and he can mentor Kadeem Allen.

honestly one of my favorite parts of the offseason. is when all the big super team moves are done and we can look for bargain bench players.
