Cap space is going to be vital this offseason and especially so next offseason.

We keep adding rookies like we are doing and players like Zipser, Canaan and Felicio for cheap....then we actually give ourselves the BEST chance to add a Top tier FA.

Our salary distribution looks outstanding right now and is primed for a big FA acquisition. Dunn makes 5 Million for 2 more seasons and he's only going to get better. Thats exactly the correct formula in building a strong team in the salary cap world.

No top tier free agent is coming to play with Lauri **** Markkanen and Kris Dunn.

Cap space is worthless to the Bulls right now. Their reputation in the league isn't good. So many people are **** all over this franchise for how they handled the draft (among other things).

The Bulls will use the cap space to take on bad deals with picks attached to it.

That's fine but it's not what was suggested the cap space would be used for in the post I responded to.

After a night to reflect on it - I don't know what to think. I hated the deal when it was rumored yesterday - and that rumor didn't even have the 16th pick leaving Chicago. But seeing as Danny Ainge has no interest in actually making a move - it seems like this probably was as good as it was going to get for Butler.

It was time to move on and I was 100% in support of blowing this thing up. Not thrilled with the return - and I'd like to see GarPax slowly digested over a thousand years in the belly of a sarlacc - but I am excited that we've committed to a hard reboot.

As I said last night - this awful, crappy, no good team is far more interesting to me than a Butler/Wade/Rondo Vol. 2 was ever going to be. I'll probably get league pass just so I can see the Unwatcha-Bulls in action.

You nailed my sentiments entirely. New narrative, new team. Who knows? Maybe we'll find something.

I actually think Lavine is the least of the three guys we got even though he's the only proven one. I think he wil make a good trade chip within a year.

I still like this trade the next morning but it would have been nice to keep the 16th pick and perhaps try to package that with the 7th to try to move into the top 5. I think people would have liked it more if we landed a top 5 player.

Thanks Ralph...the strategy explains itself. It may not work, but the roster and salary positioning is correct for such moves.

The large TPE also helps. Then having a 24 Million dollar contract is another help.

That needs to be the strategy now. Pile on future picks. Help Ainge free up salaries to sign Hayward.

I don't think it's a bad trade. Clearly, we didn't get the best player in the draft but we potentially got three all-stars (or close to it). I think lavine is a better scorer, or at least has better offensive skill. Dunn didn't have the best rookie season, but no many do under thibs and he has a high ceiling. Markkenan might turn out to be an all star or Channing Frye, the floor isn't that bad.

I think if the bulls actually tried, the rest could be better. Try and replace Jimmy with Hayward. Go get Beverly. Add Amir Johnson

Yeah if Ainge needs to unload a player like Jae or Bradley the Bulls should definitely look there but knowing Ainge he'd be the one asking for the pick.

For his sake, I hope they can agree on a reasonable buy out and he gets to go play with the Cavs or somewhere he deserves. Bulls front office is a Snake Pit, complete trash! Got rid of a talented head coach in Thibs to bring in a more agreable college coach, then that coach pushes out all the teams talent for more agreable college kids...Why are we trying so hard to be the best NCAA team?

We should try to trade for every bad contract in the league honestly. We'll have the room.

We actually got really good pieces and any nonbiased person will say this was a good deal for both sides.

It's easy to say since we gave up the "superstar " we got fleeced, very prisoner of the moment. This shows that the FO, flawed & all, is choosing a path.

Bottom line is that the ACL year alone is a huge concern. Who goes on to become a superstar after tearing an ACL?

Didn't Dennis Smith Jr. tear an ACL? He was my choice after Canaan was gone, but I guess this would have been an issue.

Think about how Boston pivoted out of their run and how this franchise pivoted away from Jimmy. They STILL have assets + flexibility from that trade and we're already fresh out.

A good rebuilding plan requires you to sell HIGH, buy low, develop talent and manage assets. The Bulls are doing none of that right now.

I really hope Wade stays. Two reasons. We need to be above salary limit, and second him mentoring Lavine and Dunn will be crucial for their development. And in case of Lavine, rehab and mental approach after injury. Wade knows how to handle the body. Let's not forget we dont have Lavine for till January atleast. Who is going to score basketball? Wade seems to be good fit. I dont expect Markkanen till All-Star break to contribute or break out. Dunn alone can't do it.

The next step is for ownership to realize this management group is tainted. Any sound business would thank Garpax for their service, but realize that you need to repair the Bulls brand sooner or later. I'm OK with giving them another year because we're going to suck anyway and are not looking to be a player in FA, but you have to make a change to restore optimism with Bulls basketball.
