Wizards Summer League/Training Camp thread

Added to the summer league roster: Michael Young, PF, Pitt.

6'9" 235 lbs.
6.7 rpg; 34.4% 3PT; 77.8% FT

We also have Chris "Virtual First Rounder" McCullough, Sheldon "Not Bad" Mac, and Daniel "I Guess" Ochefu. We'll see if Danuel House returns as well.

They should be all over Kobi Simmons, as should every team. Assume they also sign Trimble. Beachem and Hayes are guys that will be solid NBA players that also went undrafted

Hayes seems to be to be very much undervalued.

They also added Devin Robinson, who at least looks like an NBA player, though he doesn't really play like one:

He was the only training camp signee who was projected by Draft Express to be drafted. (FWIW, they projected that the Wizards would take him at #52.)

I think he might be one of those raw guys, if you see enough potential in SL, you sign and put him on your 17-man roster. Hope he develops in a year or two playing in the G-League.

Yeah, I'm not hating. It's worth a shot. The problem is, he is still raw as a college junior.

Fortunately, 3&D SF is one of the positions that doesn't require a ton of skill. Just learn to catch-and-shoot from the corner and work hard on defense.

Jenkins was a solid shooter for most of his junior and senior season but for some reason closed out the 2017 season really badly. He only shot 18.75% from 3 during his last 9 games of he seasons and his struggles were a big reason why Villanova went out early in the tournament against Wisconsin. I will say he has a chance if he regains his shooting form since his defense did improve in the college since he lost a massive amount of weight at Villanova. His 3 point shot already has NBA range (see his 2016 buzzer beating win against UNC). Still, he needs to snap out of his shooting slump for any chance for him to make a NBA roster.

Keene is basically a smaller Burke. Chucker who doesn't playmake and will not be good on defense. Our FO really doesn't know PGs well. It is really lucky we were able to draft Wall cause whenever he bounces and Grunfeld's special self is charged with replacing him... it is gonna be UGLY.

I believe if Wall leaves, the GM will be fired immediately after and hopefully a confident GM will rebuild us with a purpose.

He's Isaiah Thomas lite. Incredible scorer and shooting ability that will make him a great sixth man option early in his career. Size is a major problem for him on the defensive side of the ball.

Explosive scorer, averaged more than 30 points per game and shot nearly 37 percent from downtown during his senior season at Central Michigan.

PLAYER WEAKNESSES
Very undersized, standing just 5-foot-9. Also turnover prone, committing just under five turnovers per game during his senior season.

All deserve a chance to make the team. These guys have potential.
Im excited to see Chris and Sheldon play summer league this year they both have a lot of promise too! Daniel ochifu.... IDK i hope they play him at center because we need to see Chris and and young play so we can evaluate them properly. I do like Ochifu a lot I do, i think hes a good home town kid and I have a feeling he had something to do with his boi khris coming here cuz im sure other teams were looking at him. Lets see how daniel does as our starting summer league center and go from there.

If Mac and Ochifu show us something in summer league and these three guys come our play hard and show they should have been drafted and we end up with 5 really good young players on really cheap deals, awesome!

Why? Just because he didn't get to play last season? He rebounded well in college could block shots and had good placement and movement on defence, he is a big body and is 23, and mobile enough. He is not a terrific athlete, but he can improve just like anyone else could. Lets see how he does given a chance to play starting center in summer league. If he rebounds well and plays good defence whats the issue, if he does not cut him. he is 6-11 and 23 give him a shot to develop. Obviously if there is a chance to replace his spot with a much needed and better player during the season, and hes not developing. Do it. But, right now give him a chance and see how hes developing, big men come on late, lets see how he does.
