Post#1 » by Cammo101 » Fri Jun 23, 2017 3:29 pm

Anyone heard any names yet for the Summer League team? I assume Isaac, Iwundu, and Zimmerman will be there, but haven't head any other names.

We can also use this thread to track the Summer League roster as it comes into focus.

Official Roster:

Jonathan Isaac
Wesley Iwundu
Stephen Zimmerman
Patricio Garino
Marcus Georges-Hunt
Tyler Harvey
Josh Gray
Kalin Lucas
Derrick Walton Jr.
Jalen Jones
Shevon Thompson
Levi Randolph
Oriol Pauli
Kellen Dunham
Stefan Jankovic
Reggie Cameron
Matt Costello

Michigan PG Derrick Walton will be playing for the Magic.

http://www.mlive.com/wolverines/index.ssf/2017/06/derrick_walton_jr_nba.html

SB Nation had him as one of their top undrafted players. Both NBADraft.net and Draft Express ranked him outside the Top 60.

Four-year guy. Not very tall (6'0 ¾"), not very long (6'2 ½"), not impressively athletic. Likely a defensive liability at the NBA level, but he can really shoot the hell out of the ball. .401 career three point shooter in college on 581 attempts so the sample size is certainly legit. Also a career .837 FT shooter.

This kid played tremendous basketball for Michigan all year. The point guard depth chart isn't exactly settled, so maybe he'll earn a two-way contract.

He's a gamer. Worth a shot. I was kind of hoping we'd give PJ Dozier a shot as well. I like his upside. I'd also like to see Jimmer Fredette and Vander Blue on our SL team too.

Michigan fan here. I havent seen anyone else use this comparison but I see his comp as John Lucas III. I know that's not sexy but for an UFA I think he can find a role in the NBA as a short burst scorer. Hope he works out for you guys.

I mean, say what you want about John Lucas III, but he was able to carve out an 8-year NBA career. Dude ended up making 5.1M dollars.

Not many jobs right out of college where you can make 637K a year, ya know?

Smitty tweeted a few weeks back that Oriol Pauli was also playing for us.

@KeithSmithNBA: Spanish guard/forward Oriol Pauli will play Summer League for the Orlando Magic. Magic have only 1 entry this year after years with 2 teams.

Mario really needs to play in summer league. It would be very disappointing if he didn't, and there would need to be a very good reason.
11/18/2017 - I have officially disowned Nikola Vucevic and branded him a loser.

- Skal Labissiere was my guy in 2016 pre-trade. Whoops, but I still believe.
- Malik Monk was my guy in 2017. Whoops(?)
- Mo Bamba was my guy in 2018. TBD.

Thank god we only have 1 team again. Makes it a little easier to keep track.

Did Peter Jok get drafted? Wouldn't mind adding him.

I kind of expect Patricio Garino and Marcus Georges-Hunt, as both have contract decisions to be made. The Magic still has the draft rights for Tyler Harvey and Jānis Timma; I would expect Harvey to play.

I don't think he is allowed to because he has been in the league for over 2 years.

Unless the rules have changed recently, I think anybody can play. Don't we see crappy veterans trying to get back in the league show up on rosters every year? I think SVG brings Justin Harper to summer league every year. He even brought in Brian Cook in a recent summer league.

That is because those guys aren't currently under NBA contract.

I thought you were only obligated to play in your first two years and that it was elective beyond that.

Team can force you to play for 2 years, after that it is elective I believe.

So is it actually a rule that you cannot play beyond your 2nd year if you're under contract? I didn't think it was, but I'm willing to be wrong if I see proof.

I'm fairly certain it used to be, unless you got a waiver to do so. Not sure what the rule currently is.

Good call on Tyler Harvey.

I'd be interested in giving Anthony Brown another look too.
