I don't think that it's wise to add another albatross deal.

No Crabbe. We need a guy that can be at least a part time PF.

Re: This offseason
ehh Not sure about Crabbe now with DLo here. Also got MozGOD on the books for a few years. Unless we're getting a super sweet return, like a 2018 first and another, then forget it. But I think that ship sailed with Portland sending 2 of their picks last night to Sacramento.
I'd rather we swing for the fences with OPJ and see what Washington does. After that... not sure. Don't think we need KCP anymore with Dlo, and if Porter can play 2-4 he's the guy I'd want.
Lin/DLo/CLV/OPJ/Allen seems like the lineup Atkinson's schemes are meant for.
Off the bench mix and match these guys... Din/IW/Archie/Skil/RHJ/Booker/Moz
Then look to spin Booker for a 2018 pick to a playoff contender if the scenario is there.

Re: This offseason
I think we can move Lin or Booker during next season's trade deadline for a late 1st rounder like we did with Boggie this year. For now I think they stay since they are vets and we have a young group.
I envision Lin/Russell/CL/RHJ/Moz as starters next year unless we get an Otto Porter or another good name in free agency.

Re: This offseason
So the future looks bright at PG, SG and C. Then there is RHJ. Not sure if he's a long term PF or SF or energy bench guy. Right now he's the starting PF but next to Allen can we have 2 players who can't shoot? If we can get a 3 and D SF though and Levert who should improve as well I think it could work to be honest. That's why I'm all in on Otto Porter. He helps on the glass, he can switch off on 2/3/4 and he is an elite spot up shooter 43% from deep. I prefer to keep Russ at PG and Levert at the 2 so we can have good length across the board and not lose out on the length defensively pushing Levert to SF. With the cap we have we can add Porter at 4 yr/25M per. That would make him an expiring in the 2020/21 season right when we clear the dead weight (D-Will, Nicholson, Moz). We'd likely only have Allen, Levert, Russell (extended), RHJ (maybe) and Porter. As an expiring he would have value so the contract fits in with the time frame. Other option is to eat more dead weight and hope for another Russell type move but I want to win some games next year and build a culture now. Adding Porter give us exactly what we need.
Lin is comfortable off the bench so
PG: Russell/Lin
SG: Levert/IW
SF: Otto/Harris
PF: RHJ/Booker
C: Allen/Mozgov
I think we can make a playoff push if all goes well. The bench would be solid with Lin running the show. That's what I'm hoping for in FA.

But I would love to get James Johnson here, he can guard wings and bigs. PJ Tucker, CJ Miles, Thabo, Tony Allen are veteran guys that can play good defense on wings, anyone of those guys would work for me.
Trade Booker for a pick next year which we need. illyasova and Patrick Patterson are good 4s that can shoot the 3 and won't break the bank. I think JaMychal Green would be a very good starting 4 for us but IDK how much he would get, might be too much. Still want Dedmon here because Mozgov might be a non factor. Any of these guys would do for me, I just don't see us breaking bank on higher level players or any of those players wanting to come here.
i wouldnt call porter a wing defender... i mean he is solid on D but he certaily has some issues on that end too. KCP is much better if we want wing D
I don't see the Pope fit because of G depth now. Unless we're convince that Russell can become a full-time PG, I'd rather see us go for the bigger Porter who can play either forward position. I can see Porter getting 50+% of his minutes at PF.
id rather porter too and want no part of kcp... my point was more that porter isnt a great defender

LeVert/Russell/Goodwin
Crabbe/McDaniels
RHJ/Booker

unless it comes with an unprotected first round pick no thanks. and if we did take i 1000000% wouldnt want him starting. he is an awful defender who provides next to nothing on offense

I wouldn't take Crabbe or any other pure salary dump unless it comes with a first round pick next year.
I think Marks has at least 1 big addition left this summer, fingers crossed it's Otto Porter. Bojan could easily replace his scoring for probably a fraction of the price if we offer Porter the max, so hopefully they let him walk.

We should at least offer porter a 4/104 deal and put the pressure on the wizards. this also assume porter would sign our offer sheet. he may prefer staying with the wiz who are further along. you never know.
if we got porter at 25M per year and let booker walk after this year we sill have 15 or smillion in cap space. 25 ish if lin leaves next year.
so the contract doesnt kill us now that we offloaded brook and are younger all around

Damn Snell commanding that big bucks!
If Gallo's on a 2-3 yr deal, is it that bad?

A 2 year deal with the second year a team option isnt bad. but for me its less the money and more the fit.
Gallo doesnt really fit us short term or long term. we arent really looking to be a win now team and even if we were how many more wins does gallinari add to us playing say 55-65 games?
long term he doesnt line up either. he is 29 years old. and with his durabilitiy i dont see the long term fit.
i love his game and love his fit. i also see the value in veterans here and having starter level talent so rookie dont have to start and can grow organically. I would just much rather have that veteran be someonen more reliable. especially if ts going to cost me 3/52 at least
id rather throw the money at joe ingles if im looking for a 28-30 year old offensive front court veteran

Agreed. Next year Nicholson won't be that tough of a contract to move either (2 years/12m), and if not the following year he and Mozgov are expiring, so net-net even with Porter they will still have flexibility to do whatever they need to the next few offseasons.

What are the expectations for this team? Make playoffs? be competitive? a glorified G League team?
We moved one of our most consistent scorers in Brook. We then are now going to place that "role" onto Caris and D'Lo... but even so they too will need a 3rd scorer, someone like Gallo fits the offense. I forgot about Lin in the scoring department.
I dare not ask for a max contract or something unforgivable in contract for him but for 2 years, 3rd TO? what would it be preventing us from doing?
As a scorer, Gallo is > Porter n Snell. Gallo could fetch a shorter deal than Porter or Snell. Gallo comes in and slows down who's growth? Skill? Harris? I don't mind seeing Gallo out there more so than Harris and Skill. If we go small, D'Lo, Lin, LeVert/RHJ, Gallo n Allen.
Define short term goals?

Re: This offseason
The offseason has been pretty great so far....
its crazy to sit here with 4 young players with decent ceilings and 30 million in cap room. speaking of cap room... i was digging through some threads i had saved and had to laugh.
the BG/TnT board was flooded with nets posts like "nets will be in cap hell for the next 5 to 10 years" back in 2013. nets fans kept pointing out that dwill/joe/brook/wallace all basically expire at the same time in 2016 or 2017. no one listened. now we have boat loads of cap.
the next wave was "nets have no picks for like the next 6 years". yet here we are... with firsts from every year since then and added russell. after next offseason we own our picks. the picks to boston started in 2014... here is what we have pick wise on the roster since we started handing picks to boston:
2014: #21 Rondae Hollis-jefferson
2015: #2 D'Angelo Russell
2016: #20 Caris Levert
2017: #22 Jarret Allen

Re: This offseason
The top priority in free agency should be adding YOUNG talent...anywhere we can't get it.
Porter is my #1 target.
We also need some an offensively skilled big man. Someone like Olynyk would be interesting since Celtics likely let him go.
As for vets like Gallo... if all else fails, I don't mind vets for him for the right price. It's not about winning games, rather adding leadership. Plus, if we get some quality vets on reasonable deals we added an asset as they could be traded during their contracts. Main thing I want to avoid (and Marks has) is overpaying vets.
