 A "declining" LeBron would still be a trillion times better than any wing we've ever had in franchise history. The media is so desperate to spin everything Clipper-related in the most negative possible light.

1st in Line

Hopefully next year, Jerry West will unveil a mock LeBron James Clippers jersey at the Playa Vista practice facility to pitch to him the notion of starting the line of retired numbers to come for the franchise.

Naysaying from "Irrelevant" Writer?

Post#105 » by Ranma » Tue Jun 27, 2017 9:32 am

If LeBron indeed feels that he is never going to be a Clipper, then why did he grant us one of the few meetings to pitch him during his first go-around in free agency? Not only that, we were said to have had an impressive presentation and that was before Steve Ballmer owned the team. What has changed since? Is LeBron a hardcore Apple fanatic who can't fathom the idea of working for the former Microsoft leader? Doubtful. He came back to Cleveland despite Dan Gilbert being the owner. And we have Jerry West now. I call BS.

ESPN has to cater to its audience, and a large portion of them are greatly interested in any negative news regarding the Clippers, whether factually based or not. We will see in 2018.
I root for players always, organizations sometimes.

I don't know how I'm ever going to forgive the Clippers' new front office.

Downtown Showdown

David Aldridge, NBA.com (7/21/17)
James, according to two sources, had no idea that Irving was unhappy with his role this past season or wanted out of Cleveland. James’s future in Cleveland is already uncertain after this season; he will be an unrestricted free agent in 2018 and many around the league have believed for weeks that he’s likely to leave the Cavs for a second time and sign either with the Lakers or Clippers next summer.

It would have been cool if LeBron came here and helped his longtime Banana Boat friend Mr. Clipper Chris Paul over the hump
Melo too

But now, Chris is no longer "Mr. Clipper"
Blake Griffin is
LeBron adding the Clippers to his list of conquests would be empty

Chris was my favorite Clipper of all time but with him gone, I have no link to LeBron
I'm a Patrick Beverley fan now
PBev just brought his Euro-pal Milos over

That's where my heart is
Been Clipper Nation since they came here in 1984

All I want is 50 wins to be fun again!!

BTW how would the lineup look like? we can't trade Blake or Gallo as they just signed their deals, and the bunch we got from CP3 trade also has to stay with the team for some time, then it's DJ+Johnson boys+Austin and we all know Austin isn't going anywhere. so, no center lineup of Blake-Gallo-Lebron for our front court? suppose we could move LeBron to any position and he could handle them all just fine.

LeBron Staying in Cleveland for One More Season

I don't see him leaving Cleveland this year. I don't see owner Dan Gilbert trading LeBron or even asking him to do so either. Plus, I don't see LeBron bailing on Cleveland just yet when he's committed to that last year. I don't think he wants to deal with the narrative that he was pushed out of Cleveland by Kyrie either nor does he want to uproot his family for a single season when he can make a final decision next year free and clear.

I don't see this working out, even if LeBron wants to come to us... if the Cavs are gonna take on DJ's contract, they will have to put Thompson's contract along with Kyrie. only way that much of money can exchange and make the trade legal, is to throw Austin's contract with DJ's. basketball wise, sending out a backup guard and DJ to get one of the youngest superstars at the PG position with a starter level center, should be no brainer. but I highly, highly doubt doc would send his son out to Cleveland.

unless there is a team out there who would love to facilitate a three way deal. but I still don't see it.

getting Kyrie on the other hand... could be possible even if we weren't on his list.

Well, Doc is more than welcome to join his son in Cleveland if that scenario could be realized. :clown:

In all seriousness, I don't see us jeopardizing our chances of acquiring LeBron next year by trading for Kyrie right now. I guess we could deal him later as a trade asset, but a player like Patrick Beverly would appeal to LeBron as a teammate given his affinity for two-way players.

Plus, we can do a sign-and-trade of DJ for LeBron if he commits to joining us next off-season assuming DJ opts out of 2018-19. Also,
depending on what LeBron wants, the newly signed contracts for Gallinari and/or Griffin can be used to facilitate acquiring or keeping players he wants to play with as well.

Things would be much easier next year and, even if we lose out on him, there's still the fallback plan of targeting Paul George and Russell Westbrook. George is already eyeing L.A. so that would be another downtown-showdown scenario. Meanwhile, Westbrook has yet to sign his OKC max extension on the table presumably to see how the 2017-18 season plays out and we're all aware of his local roots.

Center of Attention

Actually, I've argued elsewhere that a scenario where the Clippers would be better off if we could have convinced both CP3 and BG to re-sign together and dealt DJ away in order to facilitate the Gallinari trade. The only missing element was a first-round pick from Houston that was included along with Diamond Stone and Jamal Crawford in a package to Atlanta.

We know the Clippers shopped DJ around the draft and it's likely the organization already had Gallinari in mind at the time when they were doing this. DeAndre was offered for Andre Drummond, which Detroit reportedly turned down, as well as first-round draft picks. Even with his player option for the season after next, I'd think the Clippers would find a way to make it happen.

With Willis Reed and Montrezl Harrell on the roster, we'd be better off with Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, and Danilo Gallinari together. Javale McGee could also be pursued as a replacement for DJ. Remember, a lot of us proposed exactly that when DJ initially committed to Dallas and McGee proved serviceable for the Warriors' championship run.

A similar scenario would work in a theoretical LeBron trade this off-season even though I think that is highly unlikely.

Im not talking about intentions, but the collective bargaining agreement's language on when a newly signed and traded players can be traded out. Can Blake be traded after signing his non sign-and-trade but a regular contract, and get traded a week or two after?

this is a legitimate question.
