Re: Trade & Free Agency Ideas & Discussion 2
Three questions, are we really gonna roll into another season with Brandon Knight on the roster? What position does Jones Jr play? He is a 3 I think but he played a lot of 2 to finish the season. Does he have a future with us after drafting JJ and still having TJ?

The problem with milsap would be years 3 and 4 of his contract.
Year 3 the Booker extension will kick in. That year Bledsoe will need to be extended or replaced.
Year 4 the potential extensions for chriss and or bender would kick in.
The roster could get expensive fast and you can't count on being able to move milsap in his mid 30s making 25 mil per year.

Sign Blake griffin
Sign and trade- Bledsoe/Bender for Chris Paul
We will Be young and can contend this year
Paul
Booker
Jones
Griffin
Chandler
That's 3 all stars and the. The 4th player in the draft and a double double center still.

I think earlier in this thread or the draft thread Dudley said the Clippers need to break up Paul, Griffin and Jordan. It hasn't worked and its dysfunctional. I don't think Griffin or Paul will be on the same next year unless its the Clippers where they can make the most jack

These are the exact reasons I don't want Blake or Millsap - well, especially Millsap. Year 3 of the deal like you said Bledsoe and Booker; year 4, it becomes Chriss, Bender but at least Knight will be off the books in some capacity as his dollars whether he or player should be off the books. Somewhere - maybe next year, TJ Warren is an RFA.
Right now, Chandler and Dudley roll off in 2019; Bledsoe as well.
So, I wouldn't feel spurned or now you want to be in Phoenix by LMA if the Spurs were willing to take Dudley (he fits there style of play ) - but is 10m enough cap savings and they aren't getting a draft pick unless its like a 2020 or protected to the first year the Suns are in the playoffs. And, in two years, LMA rolls off the books, Chandler rolls off the books - you assess your cap and go from there. And the thing about LMA - with Chandler and Sauce, he can always roll to the 5 for short spurts. Damn, whats RC's number
As for the Centers - I don't see how you can keep Sauce, Len and Chandler - too me that's too much money
I would do Knight and Len sign and trade for Millsap but has to be a 3 year deal

I was thinking about Ibaka too. He hasnt been the same guy that he was in OKC, so you have to wonder if its a fitment/system thing with Orlando. Ibaka was a straight defensive and rebounding stud in OKC.

I usually am not a conspiracy theory guy but there's a couple I do believe in. The first is the frozen envelope. The other? That Ibaka is much older than he claims to be. By at least a few years. Anyone that thinks that cat is only 27-years-old, well... I have a bridge I can sell you. Cheap.

That's the thing. It isn't sudden. If you look at his numbers he didn't fall of a cliff. In fact he had a tiny uptick when he moved to Orlando where he was featured more. What's most notable is the block numbers going down, I'd wager the dunks have gone way down, and the 3-point attempts have gone way up. That's generally what happens to older PFs as they age. At 27 he should be in his prime still murdering guys at the rim though. My guess is he'll get overpaid by someone this Summer and we'll see a slow steady decline in his production over the duration of his contract.

Question is, if LMA does become available, and it certainly seems possible. do we make a play for the shorter commitment? It would surely require moving Dudley and Barbs... two vet cornerstones. If SA was just dumping him, why not? I'd hesitate to give any assets, as the favor is sal cap relief. LMA didn't cost them anything.
The draft was easy compared to the roster manipulation that lies ahead.
Blake Griffin identified Phoenix as an up and coming city and he mentioned Scottsdale. So I don't think it has anything to do with the Suns as much to do with the nightlife, the ladies, the clubs, good weather, etc.
And I am not advocating signing a veteran PF but Gambo keeps dropping the name Millsap; he said they would "kick the tires" on Blake Griffin. So it seems that Ryan McD wants a PF type . So, again that is why I go back to my trade, short term, doesn't extend your cap out - and with Chandler/Aldridge - helps bridge time for the young guys. But I am guessing that doesn't help the Spurs enough, clearing 10m of cap space
Personally the best player on the list for me is Hayward - but he is a SF so that kind of doesn't match up with Warren and Jackson and his dollars will be off the charts
I looked through this list. Calderon is a good option at PG. You want a veteran PF cheap that will totally slow the game- sign Z-Bo (I am kidding, he would be terrible in this offense). Its just that many players do not make sense when you have four young forwards like Warren, Jackson, Chriss and Bender. And for now, Dudley

The idea of Aldridge on our roster next year makes me want to throw up.
1. He is too expensive for what he brings
2. He would cost us some of our young core to get him
3. He cannot play the game the way it needs to be played in todays NBA and the way our roster is being built to play.
4. Why would any player want to leave the greatest coach ever (at least most say that of Popovich).

No thanks to a 31-32 - oh I mean "27" - year old, clearly declining player.

a lot of validity
I actually think Millsaps for 2 years 50m sign and trade Knight/Len would be a solid way to get rid of the Knight contract; improve the team a bit but allowing the young guys the chance to play
as for the Aldridge deal - its strictly a cash dump for them if they want CP3 - and I am not sure taking back Dudley - so saving 10m is enough . I think they will have to release Parker - like how the Suns released Beasley -

There is dysfunction, but I think it's Paul toward the other two for some reason. There was a report that CP had basically said he would only resign if Jordan was traded and everybody knows Deandre and Blake are pretty tight friends. I think this is why we have strangely popped up as a question for both for that few days, with Blake mentioning us at all as a possibility and subsequently a rumor popping up that the Clips would inquire on a DJ trade with us. I think those two are quietly pulling strings trying to stay together. I think that if Jordan is traded, Blake will attempt to sign there also, or if Paul leaves and Jordan stays, he goes back to the Clips. (Austin powers Gold Member) "THERE IS A POWER STRUGGLE".

Don't think you can add a player to an outward bound sign and trade. Would be Len by himself, no Knight added to it. So getting the combined salaries outgoing to match Milsap would be tough unless you combine like Knight+Duds or Chandler. Unless Milsap intends to take much less than expected.

Oh good to know. There goes that! I just thought if Len agreed with Hawks and added Knight than moved them for Millsap
If that's the case - just stay away from expensive veteran PFs and keep your cap flexibility

I dont have details.
ESPN is reporting on a 5 team trade that almost happened and would have landed PG13 and Melo in Cleveland. There is a lot of speculation that Denver was also involved:
“We were very far along in one,” trade discussion, said Tim Connelly, the Nuggets’ director of basketball operations. “We thought it was done. At the 11th hour, one of the teams involved had a change of heart. While we had countless conversations, there was one in particular we thought was going to take place. It’s never a deal until you have a handshake and a deal and it never got to that point.”
Tim Connelly the Nuggets GM was visibly pissed just before and after the draft, and has said that they thought a deal was done and a team pulled out at the very last minute. From all appearances and the rumors out there it sounds like it was likely part of this deal and the rumor is now out that the that the team who was getting Love did not like the medicals and pulled out.
So we have Cleveland, New York, Indiana, and Denver. The last team is a mystery so far, but with the trade talk about us being involved as possibly a 3rd team in the PG13 to Cleveland and us being linked to Denver with Bledsoe, im guessing that last team (and the one who pulled out) was us.
Im thinking we would have ended up with Love and Mudiay while giving up Bledsoe and possibly the #4. Im also thinking there would have been maybe another player or two coming and going, but who knows yet.
