Re: Alec Peters Thread
From what I said in terms of getting better, Alec peters over the course of his four years in college:
Points:
13
17
18
23
Rebounds:
5
7
8
10
Now just make him focus on defense.

Re: Alec Peters Thread
Also this sucks:
"His senior season ended unceremoniously, with Peters missing the final four games of the season with a stress fracture in his right leg, resulting in his team losing in the first round of their conference tournament. The injury robbed casual fans and NBA scouts of seeing him in the NCAA Tournament, and will likely prevent him from partaking in the pre-draft process."

Prob why he fell so far...
Id like to give him a chance though.

I think he will be coveted by many teams, but he needs minutes.

I was hoping secretly that the Suns will draft a similar player in Aleksandar Vezenkov, who was picked three spots later by the Nets. Being that I'm probably the only Bulgarian to post on these forums, having the only two bulgarians to ever play in the NBA for the Suns, would have been pretty cool.

Re: Alec Peters Thread
6'8", slow footed three point shooting forward? I guess his ceiling is Jared Dudley?
Wouldn't be bad for a 54th pick.

That's the plan, Frankistan!
Me, SDU and hopefully NeverFear will be in PHX for opening night and probably a good 4-5 days. Itinerary will be built around the schedule once it's released. Hope you can be there to meet up with us?

Re: Alec Peters Thread
This kid can shoot and while his defense will probably always be pretty bad with how slow footed he is, he can still be a good stretch 4 in the league.
Let's not forget that Channing Frye was considered a huge bust for many years before finally settling into his role.
Don't try to force Alec to be a square peg into a round hole and he should flourish. He's a deadly shooter and that's the strength that should be maximized.
And as rsavaj said, I like this pick a heck of a lot more than the Reed pick.

Nah, no lummoxes allowed on this trip

Jokes, dude is back in NZ now and it's unfortunately not feasible for him to embark on a trip like this right now. Doesn't mean we're not going to keep trying to convince him though!

Yeah pretty gutted. Only been in my current job for 6 months - had a bad chest infection a few months back and I didn't have any sick leave, so basically a week of annual leave was used for that. I'm still in the red for my annual and sick leave after my wife's grandfather passed away a few weeks back.
Not that it matters really, saving for a house and want to start a family, so just can't do it unfortunately.

And yeah I'm seeing some Matt Bonner/Scalabrine levels of shooting and lack of athleticism. If he doesn't pan out then McD is 0-2 on late round Alec picks...

That's exactly what I was going to say. I hadn't read this thread yet but people saying he wouldn't make the roster? Why not? 17 roster spots...we can sign everyone.
I mean even if his D isn't any good, to have an end of the bench guy who can come in and hit quick 3s if needed, with size, is more valuable than skill like DJJ has in this league today. If you can't shoot it is very hard to play. Of course not having defense is obviously a problem but a guy that spreads the floor as a big is valuable enough for a roster spot. He probably wouldn't get many minutes, but most guys outside of the top 9 or 10 won't.

Not really. Spots 16 & 17 are limited to 2-way contract players. Those players can only be with the team for 45 days during the season including practices.

Not really what? I said we can sign him. I don't know if he needs to be one of those spots or not, but that's fine too. It's a roster spot. If he only is with the team 45 days this season at the most, I think that's fine. I imagine Millsap will be one of the two way players. Maybe he is the other. It kind of depends on whether or not we make trades and/or sign free agents but if we didn't do anything, I think we have 17 including Barbosa, who it might be worth getting rid of (though I'm fine keeping too).
But if this guy was ranked right around the top of the second round or bottom of first round before injury then there may be good reason to sign him to the roster. Obviously Reed is the bigger priority and we obviously like him taking him so high based on his projected range, but many teams seemed to like him. I kind of hope he makes the roster...even the 15 man roster.

My point was that even with 17 roster spots we can't just "sign everyone." We in fact have to be very strategic about who gets signed to spots 16 & 17. I posted the rules for those contracts in another thread (the FA thread I think.) They are some serious drawbacks to those spots. Also once you reach day 46 the contract must be converted to a full NBA contract and they become one of your active 15. It's interesting how they are doing these.
The Warriors got Oregon's Chris Boucher on a two-way deal which was another damn steal since he's not healthy right now anyway. Several were handed out by teams on draft night but none by the Suns iirc.

Re: Alec Peters Thread
I rather have Alec Peters than DJJ, mainly because Suns need a legit sharp shooter and this guy is an elite 3pt shooter... look at his numbers, watch him play... smart, has skills and feel for the game.

I agree 100%
I really hope he sticks on the roster. Cant wait for summer league to see what our boys can do.
Peters looks like he already has nba range on his 3...Not only that his release is so fast. That quick release time compared with his efficiency....
It just looks like if you set up a PnR with him and toss him the ball the defense wont be able to recover before he gets his shot up.
Summer league hypeeeee
