I am sorry man. I really am. I know it sucks. Melo is 33 with a NTC and a trade kicker. Your GM has publicly came out saying how badly he wants to move on from him. At this point you are lucky to get expiring contracts of players who can still play without having to take on Jamal Crawford and Austin Rivers. I hope i'm wrong but I highly doubt it.

Melo can waive his kicker and if its to join his boys in Cleveland I'm sure he would do it. Not only that, its an added incentive to persuade CP3. New York is more than willing to take on any extra salary to make it work.

The only positive value I can see you getting is Love. That being said not sure Cleveland makes that deal unless Billups gets hired.

I actually like this for all teams, I suspect the Pacers backed out thinking they could create a bidding war between Cleveland, Boston and LA after Butler was moved.

If that was the deal, the Suns cut NYK and CLE from the trade and simply deal Bledsoe, Warren, MIA 1st for Paul George, Monta and Mudiay while sending Dudley to IND as well.

Melo has negative value because of his NTC. They'd be better off trading him for anything they can get just to get off his deal as long as it wasn't a long term contract.

I highly doubt that Melo will agree to a buyout this summer. That would require him to walk away from the final year of his deal, at like $28MM, AND lose his bird rights with his next team. While I think that there is a real chance that Melo will opt out if he's happy in a situation to lock in more overall money at less $ per year, his new team will need to acquire his bird rights.

Dwayne Wade is in a completely different situation as he doesn't have an option next year or bird rights.

Love and Ryan Anderson make the same amount - i'd rather have Love. Love needs to go to a situation where he can be the number 2 option on offense and have plays run for him from the post and elbow. I don't see why he can't go back to being the extremely efficient 25-12-5 guy he was in Minnesota.

Maybe not. But I could see a scenario where the Knicks simply waive him and eat all the money. Phil certainly seems to be saying he thinks the Knicks need to turn the page. And while I think he's gone about it all wrong, there is some logic behind the idea of never having Melo play another game in a Knicks uniform. Knicks appear to maybe just maybe realize they need to have plans that look more than 6 months into the future. Heck even Cuban seems to have realized that so there is hope for Dolan, right?

Not to mention that 5 way trades are insanely rare. I don't think there's been one in 10 years. So I have a hard time believing this was ever going to be one.
