Sign and Trade for Millsap
I've been posting sign and trades for Millsap on the transactions board for the last few weeks now. I've mainly posted sign and trades with Portland, Minnesota, and Denver. Most of my trades center around a pick and a contract.
We will see if the new GM is able to get any sign and trade offers after the draft

would a sign and trade with Toronto work. something around DeMarre Carroll , a salary dump, and 2017 1st round pick (23rd over all) work?

I think that would be a good tank move.

Re: Sign and Trade for Millsap
Bleacher ReportIt's rather clear the Hawks want to smash the reset button repeatedly this offseason...
The smart move, of course, is agreeing to a sign-and-trade situation with a team wanting to lock down Millsap. This ensures the Hawks get something of value in return for his departure as opposed to nothing at all.
Brian Windhorst of ESPN recently said on air a few teams have already approached the Hawks about a deal: "There are three or four teams out there that are willing to give Millsap a max contract, and sources have told me that the Hawks have begun getting some feelers on sign-and-trades."
The report goes on to name-drop the Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings and Denver Nuggets.
Millsap is worth the attention; he's an obvious veteran leader for rebuilding teams hoping young stars can propel the process.

Re: Sign and Trade for Millsap
This is great. I was thinking that the Hawks would have to take one asset and one bad contract in a Millsap trade, but if the bidding war has 4 teams, then maybe the Hawks can get two assets or just 1, one year expiring contract and an asset.

Yeah, it's great the opportunity exists.
The hard part is getting Millsap and his representation to buy-in.

Re: Sign and Trade for Millsap
How about a sign and trade...
Millsap for LaMarcus Aldridge
Its a lateral move for both teams, but each player walks away happy.
Millsap gets max money and goes to one of the best organizations in pro sports
LMA is already demanding a trade out of SA, and his game fits in Budz system
Millsap has a small window but with his elite defense and offensive game, the Spurs get to pair him up an MVP candidate in Kawhi, making them into one of the best forward duos in the NBA

Re: Sign and Trade for Millsap
I'd do Millsap for Aldridge
With how desperate Cleveland seems to be, does anyone think we could pry away Kevin Love in a Millsap S&T? They get an upgrade, and we get an All Star caliber player instead of letting Paul walk for nothing.

Anything positive we get in a S&T is better than him walking...think salary though, Schlenk is serious about flexibility. Love would be a nice asset to flip or keep, but do you really think Hawks can get him in a S&T?

I have floated the idea of Millsap for LaMarcus Aldridge one some outside boards, the Spurs board and Transaction board, and all Spurs fans like the proposal.

Denver got Tyler Lydon, Kings got Josh Jackson, and Portland got Zach Collins in the draft. All three guys would be good trading chips if the Hawks elect to explore a sign and trade with one of those three teams.
Portland also got Caleb Swanigan...

would you want to do a deal wit PORT for a rookie and contract/s that they want to clear to make room for Sap? Hawks would have to take back a lot for it to work for PORT

^ Im starting to look at Zach Collins more and more, and i think he could be worth taking on two bad contracts to get in a Millsap sign and trade. Its hard to say but Zach could be as good as Brad Miller?

I'll post what i posted in another thread on the T&T board about a Blazer/Hawks trade:
How does the Base Year Compensation come into play with a SnT? They way I understand it, Hawks can only take back half the salary of what the Blazers will pay Millsap. So if they give him $30, hawks can only take back $15. Which means Portland has to clear a boatload of salary before attempting a SnT.
There’s one scenario in which a sign-and-trade may genuinely make sense — if a free agent wants to join a team without cap room. However, even that scenario can’t necessarily be handled like a normal trade, since the Base Year Compensation (BYC) rule often applies.
The BYC rule applies to a specific circumstance. If a player is being signed-and-traded via Early Bird or Bird rights by a team above the salary cap, gets a raise of at least 20%, and his salary is worth more than the minimum, his cap figure for salary-matching purposes will be affected. For the team acquiring him, his full salary would apply in a trade. For the team trading him, he would count for his previous salary or 50% of his new salary, whichever is greater.

I would assume we do a separate deal involving Crabbe going to Brooklyn, then do the S&T portion using Ezeli(only 1 million guaranteed) and Zach Collins rights.

Re: Sign and Trade for Millsap
The Hawks aren't but Portland is. They are in Luxury Tax, so they first have to clear salary to bring them below the tax line, second clear salary for Millsap knowing only half can go to Atlanta meaning they'll have to find a 3rd team to take on salary.
Not saying it can't be done, just very difficult on Portlands end, they'll need to attach assests for a 3rd team to take all the bad contracts while sending value to the Hawks for Millsap.

Re: Sign and Trade for Millsap
1) Do we really believe Millsap has any interest in going to Portland?
Also...
Denver seems the best chance at a sign and trade. They're a young, talented team with too much youth and a childhood connection to Millsap.

I read that as...we have to be over the cap for this to apply.
