He's been negative all his life.

If he was positive it'd be a sign that the four horsemen were on their way.

I put together a trade. Before I post on T&T for feedback, I thought I'd run it past you to see how much you hate it. It's never going to happen, because it is a 5-team trade, and those don't really happen outside of realgm.

POR-MIA-SAC-UTA-HOU

Why?

POR: Clears a ton of cap space for the price of 1 first and 1 second. This gets them out of luxury tax hell. Aside from the pick they dump Allen Crabbe and Noah Vonleh, two underachieving players.

MIA: Receives a 1st round pick, a couple seconds, and three young players, one who has a bad contract. For this season it's almost capspace neutral, and it also relieves us of one of our best players (TJ) and his contract that so concerns the realgmers.

SAC: Uses their cap space to get two excellent players and a first round pick in exchange for two seconds. Both TJ and Ryan Anderson are locals. Fans will love them.

UTA: Turns Exum into Wayne Ellington and Patric Beverley, giving them first-class perimeter shooting and defending. Exum has been disappointing and injured, though he has shown some potential at times too. Utah is now loaded with guards, though.

HOU: Salary dump of Beverley & Ryan Anderson. They can sign Chris Paul now.

Portland sends Allen Crabbe + Noah Vonleh + 2018 1st POR, 2021 MIA 2nd

I appreciate the effort GOM but I don't like it at all for us.
Portland receives Josh McRoberts
negative: give up a first and a young player to dump Crabbe's deal.
Even after picking up McRoberts (who can be stretched) the Blazers cut $16M from their luxury tax. After waiving Ezeli, they are under the luxury tax line.

Miami sends Wayne Ellington + Josh McRoberts + Tyler Johnson
Miami receives Dante Exum, Allen Crabbe, + Noah Vonleh + 2018 1st POR, 2021 MIA 2nd, 2020 2nd DET
negative: we like TJ and we'll have to pay Crabbe for 3 more years. Limits future flexibility.
MIA is essentially getting a pick and Vonleh for taking Allen Crabbe off the Trailblazers. That's a $56.3M contract. We use Wayne Ellington's team option contract (passed to Utah) and TJ (passed to Sacramento) to match. I think TJ is worth two seconds (at least) and Ellington is being swapped for Exum, who will be redundant anyhow once they have Beverley.

Sacramento sends 2018 2nd (best of SAC or POR) & 2020 Det 2nd
Sacramento receives Tyler Johnson, Ryan Anderson
negative: not much really. This is a good deal for the Kings who won't care when TJ's contract goes up.

Utah sends Dante Exum
Utah receives Wayne Ellington (Team Option), Patric Beverley
negative: not much. Exum hasn't shown much and to compete in the WC (pun unintended), you have to be a good defender. what does that even mean?

Rockets out: Beverley, Ryan Anderson
Rockets in: 2018 2nd (best of SAC or POR)
negative: would really suck if they can't get anyone to sign.

MIA:

PG: Goran Dragic, Dante Exum
SG: Dion Waiters, Allen Crabbe, Josh Richardson
SF: Justise Winslow, Rodney McGruder, Okaro White
PF: James Johnson, Noah Vonleh, Luke Babbitt, Udonis Haslem
C: Hassan Whiteside, Bam Adebayo, Willie Reed

2018 1st POR, 2021 MIA 2nd, 2020 2nd (DET)

POR:

PG: Lillard,
SG: McColllum
SF: Turner, Aminu, (Ellington?)
PF: Harkless, Davis, McRoberts (stretched?), Zach Collins, Caleb Swanigan
C: Leonard, Nurkic

SAC:

PG: Fox, Langston Galloway
SG: Hield, Tyler Johnson, Garrett Temple, Malachi Richardson (?), Bogdan Bogdanovic
SF: Justin Jackson, Tyreke Evans
PF: Ryan Anderson, Willie Cauley Stein, Skal Labissiere
C: Harry Giles, Kosta Koufos, Georgios Papagiannis

UTA:

PG: Neto, Burks, Patrick Beverley, Shelvin Mack (?)
SG: Rodney Hood, Donovan Mitchell, Wayne Ellington
SF: Joe Johnson (?), Gordon Hayward (?), Joe Ingles
PF: Derrick Favors, Joel Bolomboy
C: Rudy Gobert, Boris Diaw (?), Tony Bradley, Jeff Withey (?)

2018 2nd (best of SAC or POR) (31-55)

HOU

PG: Chris Paul, Isaiah Taylor, George De Paula, Bobby Brown
SG: James Harden, Eric Gordon, Lou Williams, L.J. Peak (?)
SF: Teveor Ariza, Cam Oliver, Troy Williams (?)
PF: Montrezl Harrell, Nene
C: Clint Capela, Chinanu Onuaku

2018 2nd (best of SAC or POR) (56-60)

$27M in cap space (!)

* We can also flip Exum for Galloway, if preferrable.

I appreciate the effort GOM, but I don't like it all for us. Not sure what you're trying to accomplish.

TJ > Crabbe (both as a player AND as a contract)

I don't like Exum AT ALL. Don't want any guards that can't shoot on my team.

Portland's pick is going to be outside the lottery probably, so no real gems there most likely, and second rounder can always be bought if we're hot for someone.

getting rid of Mcbob is a nice touch, but hardly worth all the poo-poo around it.

puppa bear wrote:Okay, so spit-balling ideas here:

We currently can't fit both GH & BG on the roster, as Dragic/Whiteside take up over $40m of capspace, not to mention the $18m between TJ/Ellington & McBob. Ellington can be released, and we'd ideally like to keep TJ, so we need to trade Dragic/McBob ($23m) and take back very little. So, here it goes:

Houston:
Beverly & Hartenstein for space
(They clear part of the space they're looking for, and use a player taken 43rd to do so).

Miami:
Dragic & McBob for Beverly & Hartenstein
(We clear a bunch of space ($17.5m), and get the 3&D PG that will go well with the new FAs).

Brooklyn:
Cap space for Dragic & McBob
(Nets take on a great PG on a good contract, and the cost is McBob's salary).

Going into meetings with BG & GH we have the following:

Beverly/J-Rich
TJ/McGruder
Justise/Okaro
Bam/Hartenstein
Whiteside

Yeah, I'm not sure is the best idea, but whatever, it's an idea.

Yea not sure about this idea, putting it mildly.

you're giving out best creator and probably our best contract for basically nothing, in hopes (pipe dreams?) we land a slightly better whale.

Very bad risk management IMO.

I do feel like I'd be satisfied with resigning our guys and getting Patrick Beverly for cap room.

PG - Dragic / Beverley
SG - Waiters / TJ
SF - Winslow / Richardson
PF - J Johnson / Adebayo
C - Whiteside / Reed

I like the idea of a Beverley / TJ / Winslow / JJ / Whiteside lineup where everyone is a plus defender.

Sacramento Kings still appears to be a good trading partner for the Heat if they want to make a move to reduce salary. Kings have a long way to get to the salary floor. I would be interested in trading Tyler Johnson (and Mcbob) for Willie Cauley-Stein. Kings have five bigs on their roster. Garrett Temple as their only vet in the backcourt. So I can see that Kings still have interest in TJ.

Kings like WCS. We can get Koufos, though, who would be a good backup in the front court. TJ is very popular in Sacramento, because of his huge effort on every play.

Where is McGruder? He started most games last year at SF. Winslow has to win that position back.

Thank you. Promising response. If you liked it, it was probably tilted in our favor (my natural inclination.) Teams trade to get better. This allows Houston to get better by dumping its contracts (they might want a first back and Utah has one to send then.) Utah improves at a tiny cost. Sacramento takes a good step forward, getting two starters. They have a real problem getting free agents to sign there, so trading for them is a good option. Portland does it for financial reasons.

Miami rids themselves of TJ's contract at the cost of losing one of their best players. I like Ellington too. He was a sniper last year and teams see him in that light right now.

We get a free first instead of paying one (inevitably) when we have to dump TJ's contract. I added the seconds (yes, I've heard they can be bought, but as a Heat fan, I think that it is untrue) to give us future flexibility.

FWIW, I view Exum and Vonleh as potential busts, but I think they can be redeemed by our coaching. Both showed progress at the end of last season. Crabbe could be a good player for us too.

Anyway, it's an impossible 5-team trade, but it's a mental exercise that makes all teams better (eventually.)

I just don't see us moving TJ unless it is for a big upgrade, we can still trade him next summer and the receiving team cap hit is 12,5mil right?

I think that's the reason most of us is trading TJ in order for the Heat to bring in a big name player in return. Either by free agency or trade.
