This team had a 41 game sample size of being the best team in the EC, a 30-11 record in the 2nd half of the season which included going 15-5 vs playoff teams. People can cry "sample size" all they want but 41 consecutive games is in fact an objectively sufficient sample size
So how did this team dominate? Some seem to think it was a fluke or that we caught lightning in a bottle. It wasn't and we didn't, this team is legit talented and the depth is scary good. Go down the roster and notice that no team in recent memory has been as stacked from 4-9 as Miami was in 2017:
4 - James Johnson
5 - Tyler Johnson
6 - Wayne Ellington
7 - Josh Richardson
8 - Rodney McGruder
9 - Luke Babbit
This^^ doesn't even take into account low-minute yet effective reserves Ed Weed and Okaro White. Nor does it include _ustise who despite his shooting issues still promises to be an impact role player at the very least
This is arguably an unprecedented level of substantive deep roster depth in NBA history. This alone guarantees a healthy regular season record
So from 4-9 we're the best in the league. 1-3 isn't a big 3 on the level of LeBron/Wade/Bosh, but a trio of Whiteside/Dragic/Waiters at the top of the roster is an impressive compliment to the strength in numbers from 4-9. Both Whiteside and Dragic are all-star caliber players who consistently deliver all-star caliber production and and Dion is a wild card that flashes greatness here and there
Put it all together and this is a 50-55 win team
