the damage is done. with all the sh*t talking phil did on top up of the no trade clause, you probably won't find a deal you even want to make. cutting him might look real good to some of you once redick is signed and traded here. because phil doesn't seem to realize when a player is washed up and so he might make that deal. calderon, afflalo, noah, rose. redick fits perfectly with that bunch.

We need to see how the Clippers situation shakes out. Were both Paul and Griffin to leave, perhaps they would be interested in "absorbing" Anthony's contract, since I'm not clear that Steve Balmer will want to tank with so many of his future picks already committed elsewhere.

thats what im saying. It's more tempting to have him more on and us actually rebuild than to keep him here and hope he eventually relents on destinations. He doesn't have great value regardless but keeping him on the roster just makes no sense. Which means that as a last resort a buyout should still be considered.
Paying him the 30mil for his opt out year is pretty stupid considering theres atleast a 50-50 chance he opts out just to see whats happening in the market
i'm assuming there would have to be some agreement. We will pay him all this year but there will have to be some agreement on all his opt out $$$. If he's willing to go he at least has to give up something.

Otherwise, he would've just done the Clippers trade at the deadline and be done with it.
phil doesn't really know what a bum is or not. he just knows who can fit in the triangle. them being bums doesn't occur to him.

Given the choice, sure - even I would. You might be able to move them to someone at the deadline.

he's not giving up nothing. after all this, why would he ? this is not a buyout where he's asking to go so the two parties agree. he's being told we don't want you here even though you're still the best player and you haven't done anything wrong. if you mean like 1 or 2 mill. yeah, maybe. no chance of anything more.

the sh*t talking didn't do anything IMO. Melo's value is melo's value. The fact he doesn't want to leave unless maybe its to CLE (since the clippers aren't a viable option with no Blake or CP3 under contract). The NTC is obviously something we have had to put up with at the time it didn't seem like a horrible option to lock up Melo long term because a heavy majority wanted him back because we had nothing outside of him at the time.
I'm hoping whever CP3 goes maybe that because another trade destination but unlikely. So unless this Love/PG13 trade doesn't go down and cleveland just wants to shake things up and cash in Love for Melo + other pieces. A buyout seems more and more likely.

the only scenario I see is if Phil reaches out to Melo's people and say heres the situation. We obviously can't work out a trade because of the NTC and Melo only willing to go to CLE. We are rebuilding and you wanted us to be honest about our direction. We have two options. We can mutally agree to a buyout or we are going to go with our youth and you can ride the bench.
If Melo's team calls phils bluff (if it actually is a bluff) and says there is no way Phil wants this media **** all year. But maybe Melo's ego about being benched will agree to waive the player option in a buyout...only thing I can hope for other than the PG13 trade not going down or him going to another team outside of CLE.
Just like the Love relationship with CLE is toast so is our with Melo so maybe something will go down.

of course it did. nobody is gonna offer anything much because phil backed himself into a spot where it will be really difficult to even bring him back. everybody knows this. so you just wait and figure he'll be let go soon enough. late round first picks are traded for players a lot worse than melo all the time. try to get one now. you can't. phil is not a smart poker player. he showed his hand like a dummy.

The only way they'll be able to reach some agreement about next year's opt out is if he fully believes that we'd just sit him. And given the distraction it would cause, I'm not sure that we would actually follow through on that threat.
The fact that a buyout is already being discussed/considered a bit now doesn't bode well, as Melo has no incentive to agree to anything regarding his final year.

The NTC is the reason his value is what it is. If LeBron and Melo our friends which they are of course LeBron knows Melo's destinations. If Melo said I want to go to CLE or stay in NY. Then really it didn't matter that Phil came out and publicly wanted melo gone because if CLE knows they are the only team why would they give up anything. Its either keep him, release him, or trade him to us.
Showing his hand didn't do anything in this case because the NTC already showed his hand. It basically prevents us from picking any deal we want and the deal melo wants.

Right. But so far Melo has been pretty consistent in understanding his leverage, and we haven't really given him any reason to think we aren't bluffing. All Melo has to do is keep saying "I want to be here" and act as if ANY buyout is him making a compromise.

Phil should just tweet "Melo is better than MJ" since apparently his tweets set Melo's value more than his 14 year career.

Re: official Melo trade speculation - thread 2
People are forgetting how bad Melo wants to be in NY, don't downplay Melo need of being in NY, now that he knows Phil isn't going anywhere, last year he had hope Phil would be gone, maybe now he can actually be a nice little bitch and do what he is told, i believe he would do anything to stay and keep playing for the Knicks, even play defense. I say this with proof! His demeanor in the second half of the season last year was completely different for better... think about that, the moment he being traded become a possibility instead of not giving a **** and start to jack up shots and play for himself because he would be gone soon, he became a much better team player.
Knicks need to traded him, period, but they need to get value for him! If they don't keep him. The notion of Knicks buying him out is asinine.
People here think i'm a Melo hater, no i'm a Knicks fan, that's what they don't get, i don't get hardons for players, and i'm absolutely fine with Melo in the Knicks next season, if it's the best option available for the Knicks. Simple as that.

We can't bench Melo but we can make it clear that we're a rebuilding team that's focused on developing our youth. That means he can start, but he should be capped at 25 mins per game so the youth can develop. He'll be more efficient and he'll ask out eventually, without, hopefully, creating a scene.

correct if Melo plays the I want NY all offseason and we just don't want to deal with the drama we probably will have to foot all the $$$. Maybe melo leaves 1 or 2 million like sham says as him being "flexible"
