Rubio + Monk backcourt would be baller.

Pass, I would rather just roll with Howard and keep our pick.

I would like to see us find a way to land Rubio. He would be a great Lin replacement and fill a similar role. Less driving and more distributing I suppose, but that would be a good thing.

We need a ball-handler who can do one or both of distribute / drive. What helped us win games when we had Lin was the constant barrage of drives to the hoop, cuts and pick/rolls with Kemba and Lin. It tired teams out and made it difficult to defend, even for tough defensive teams.

I think that is what the team was trying to get with Sessions because he has been able to drive to the hoop in the past and was good at getting to the FT line. It just didn't work out and those days seem like they might be behind Sessions. Who else out there fits that mold and might also be available? I think our backup PG is going to come via trade and not free agency.

Soo....do you think Rick got this bit of info from Cliff or is this just his own misguided analysis? If it's Cliff that kind of kills any hopes we have of making a deal because he'd likely feel the same way. If not then the Thibs & Cliff connection could give us a slight advantage over some other teams if offers are close. I'm not sure we'd have what they need, but I'v always loved watching Rubio and he'd be a great add.

The Wolves wanted Marvin last summer, he's who they'd want coming back.

The only problem with that is we'd have to be REALLY confident we could sign a James Johnson or a Patrick Patterson with the MLE. If not we'd be addressing one need and creating another.

Yeah, that's what struck me as weird. I've never heard anyone knock Rubio for his defense. Makes me think it's just Rick.

Rubio's lack of shooting could be a problem with MKG and now also Dwight Howard on board.

Rick is just a dumbass. Rubio's defense is very good. If anything it's underrated. He's not a top 5 pg defensively or anything, but he has the quickness, effort, and iq to make a difference on D.

If the wolves are actually trying to trade him it is most definitely because of his shooting. I like the ability he has to facilitate with those players around him though so that sort of makes up for a lot of his shooting incapabilities. I think the wolves end up keeping him unless they are able to find a truly capable replacement which I'm not sure is likely depending on how much cap space they have.

Stephen A Smith has. Probably has to do with stereotypes and not actually watching him.

I have less than zero respect for Bonnell's substantive basketball opinions.

Twolves need shooters to pair with Butler, Wiggins and KAT. Shooting and health are the only things keeping Rubio from being elite. I don't believe for one second that the Wolves are shopping Rubio due to his defense. He's a plus defender.

Bonnell is a bit of an idiot. Rubio is 2nd in Defensive RPM the last 3 years.

What about a three team trade where MKG goes to third team, Beverly and Ariza to Hornets, and the third team sends a pick to Houston creating cap space.

Sign Afflalo with the MLE

Kemb, Afflalo, Batum, Frank, Dwight
Beverly, Monk, Ariza, Marvin, Cody

It'll be interesting to see what the Twolves are going to be able to get. I can't think of many pgs that would fit their requirement. They just cut Jordan Hill, so it really looks like they're going to play small and quick with KAT at center. A stretch 4 like Marvin could be a nice fit for them. They could find a pg through free agency and have a pretty nice squad, but a little low on depth like Charlotte last year. I think a Marvin for Rubio trade would work though. We may have to throw in a future 2nd.
The Charlotte Hornets will win their first round series against the Boston Celtics in the 2021 Playoffs

Even a casual nba fan like me know that Rubio is an above average defender, what the hell is going on with you Rick?
Not a big fan of Rubio, but i think he will be a good fit next to Kemba and Monk. He has size to guard 2 and create for scoring guards like Kemba and Monk.

Although I do think Rubio is a really good PG defender, it's hard not to question his ability to defend 2 guards. I think Rubio's defensive skills fit very well for guarding smaller ball dominant, guards but 2 guards that are usually stronger than him and rely on a lot of off ball movement are totally different covers defensively in my opinion.

Some people would point out that our lineups with Lin at the 2 weren't bad defensively, but I think Lin was able to succeed there mainly because he has an underestimated amount of strength to help him not do too bad of a job on most 2 guards. The reason I bring this specifically up is because I think a backup point guard that can play with and without Kemba is very important to the team as I'm sure you all know. I'm just not sure how well Rubio would fit defensively or offensively with Kemba

Lin is an underrated defender, but I think Rubio will provide us the same defensive presence like what Lin did with us, if not better since he is bigger than Lin.

On offensive end, although he is not as good as Lin in shooting and slashing, but he is a much better passer and ballhandler. He will make life easier for Kemba, especially Monk.
