Melo will be waived. Phil does not want him here and rightfully so.
He does not fit in with the way the game is played today, but most importantly his game does not fit into the triangle.
He has to go, and thankfully phil knows that.
Melo will not be a knick on opening night.
You're wrong. Isola is an idiot but he brought one good point. James Dolan isn't going to pay Melo 55 mil to play somewhere else. It sucks that we won't be able to get assets for Melo, but at least KP will be happy.
Not sure if this AssHola masterpiece has been posted yet but here goes...........
https://t.co/H3uiOvI29a
Carmelo Anthony is currently reluctant to move out of New York for family reasons. Anthony and his wife are estranged and he continues to have a close relationship with his only son.
For that reason, Anthony is no longer as interested in playing in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Clippers have appeared to be the most realistic trading partner for Anthony in the past.
Anthony was considering accepting a trade to either the Philadelphia 76ers or Washington Wizards, which would keep him close to New York, but his mindset now is to remain with the Knicks.
Phil Jackson confirmed Anthony's position in an interview with MSG Network when the Knicks president said: "We've expressed the fact that we haven't been successful and it might be time for (Carmelo) to find an opportunity to go somewhere else. He's come back and said he'd just as soon stay.
Anthony is owed $54 million over the next two seasons.

Noah can sit on the bench, plat limited minutes if healthy and no one cares- which wouldnt be the case with Carmelo. His contract isnt nearly as bad as Melo's either.

I wouldn't pay attention to anything Isola says. He's a hack. Melo could literally stab Phil and Isola would find a way to blame Phil for the incident. The more drama surrounding the team, whether real or not, the better for a guy like Isola. Either Melo agrees to a trade or he will just play out the time here, that's it. This idea of benching him or waiving him is just silly and overblown.
He's not going to play here because the organization is going in a different direction. Melo wants to be waived so he can get all his money and go wherever. The team will make it uncomfortable for him if he doesn't accept a buyout.
I think he legit loves NY and playing in NY. It seems winning to him is secondary and he wants to finish things out here. I really don't know, but I just don't think it's going to get as dramatic as some think.
Him loving NY and playing here is all fine and dandy until the organization tells him that we don't want you anymore. This is about money and sticking it to Phil. He will be gone soon and most likely agree to a buyout.

Don't like idea of stretching any contract right now because it's on the books longer than it needs to be. Melo has one year left and an option. Let him stay here on a reduced role (still a starter though). Cap-space is not needed because we are not in a good place/ attractive destination to outright sign any significant players.
Revolution starts in the mind...

Using the stretch is never ideal. Just not sure if Dolan's willing to eat 55 mill at once or whatever insane number it is. If he is, great.

If Im not mistaken, Melo has a player option or ETO after year 4. He can just endure this season and opt out.
I double-checked...he has an ETO for 2018

Re: official Melo trade speculation - thread 2
I wouldn't buy him out. Things have a way of changing quickly. Maybe the Cavs whiff on PG and others and get desperate. Maybe early in the season a contender suffers an injury to a key player. Maybe Melo resolves his family issues (hopefully for his sake) and expands his list of teams he would be willing to go to.
I simply don't buy that he is enough of a distraction that we need to pay him to not play.

A buyout would be the ultimate slap in our faces. Like someone said though, if he opts out of the 2nd year then fine.

Re: official Melo trade speculation - thread 2
At this point there is no trade for Melo he will get bought out or be on the Knicks and I think that is all. Who caves first will be the question. Why on earth would anyone give up value when Phil has said all the things he has said about Melo in public and everyone can see it is headed for a buy out. This is the same as a bad trade for Phil. He didn't maximize the value of Melo. If you hate him or not he has more value than a buyout canidate but now that is what we will have to settle for. Another horrible job by PHIL

Re: official Melo trade speculation - thread 2
As much as I think we need Carmelo off of this team to end the drama and not let him corrupt our young players, I don't think he is going anywhere. Starting to believe he won't waive the NTC and we won't cut him and pay him $55mil to compete in Cleveland.
My guess is once the season starts, everything cools down again until mid season when the reality of another rebuilding season starts setting in. Melo will then be willing to waive the NTC and we will get garbage. We can hope that by that time KP will have bought into the rebuild and quit this nonsense, fighting for Melo's expense.

Doesn't matter what Phil said. Melo is a volume shooter, that holds onto the ball in an era where all the winning teams are consistently moving the ball, and doesn't play a lick of defense. At $26 mil per year, he had no value with or without Phil said. Kevin Love supposedly has minimal value, and they won't even give him up for Melo. The NTC mostly secured we couldn't get anything for him because the desperate teams wanting to jump from the middle of the standings to the top aren't being considered by him

Noah is considered to be worst contract in the NBA universally, but you're here trying to say Melo's is worse?
I'd love to see how a productive player on the fooor for less years is worse than a guy who can't do anything on the court or even stay on the court when healthy or even stay healthy to be on the court.

I think he's doing exactly what Isola is saying. Melo feels humiliated by Phil and wants to get back at him by not agreeing to a trade and forcing the Knicks to cut him if Phil really wants him off the team. This is going to be a game of chicken to see who blinks first.
Phil f'ed this situation up, if he kept it out the media, Melo may of agreed to a trade
