Russell Westbrook is the 2017 MVP

Post#1 » by InTheSabonus » Tue Jun 27, 2017 3:23 am

Beyond doubt that he's the Thunder GOAT now. Tremendous growth. For the "bestbrook/worstbrook" memes, he had what, two really bad games out of 82? In an offense devoid of spacing, with teammates that can't shoot, he got points, assists and is the best rebounding guard in the league.

Hope we have many more seasons of Westbrook greatness ahead of us.

Well he did it. Pretty cool. He salvaged some semblance of reason to be excited about this team last season. Well deserved. To average a triple double and play like he did in the clutch. Amazing.

Yeah. It's more than 2 months after regular season ended so no one is carrying so much and we knew it was 99% sure WB would take it, but still enjoy the moment. We don't know how many time it will last before another MVP in OKC and it was such a great regular season to watch as a thunder fan. One of the best for sure, and all this because of Russ. Otherwise it would have been a disaster. Very happy for him and hope he still have some years playing like this.

PS : It looks like Taj is staying in OKC. Just hope we don't pay a lot for him, even if I like the guy!

Congrats to Russ. In a league where guys want to stand out as unique, no one achieves this like Russ. He's his own man.

Screw the mvp award. Most fashionable is where it's at!

Houston fans gonna be salty.

"Triple doubles are arbitrary!!1"

Here's a number that definitely isn't arbitrary. MVPs: Westbrook 1 Harden 0

We've produced two different MVPs in the span of like four seasons. Pretty astonishing feat. Bittersweet though.

What'd everyone think of the Awards show format. I can't decide. It seemed neat at times but they really struggled to get 2 hours out of it with some of the made up fan awards they had to come up with to fill time.

Didn't dislike Drake's hosting as much as I thought it would. The performance was bad.

The biggest problem is that a) the players are in offseason mode and clearly don't give a **** unless they're winning an award, and b) the players looked too scared of how the media would pick up how they might react to jokes. So the atmosphere was dead.

I'd be fine with making it, say, 90 minutes, announcing the awards intermittently, while having the TNT crew do like pre-recorded season highlights/lowlights in between, just being themselves. Shaqtin would probably be disallowed in case it hurt any of the warriors feelings, but they can still be a really entertaining crew.

So I think just sticking to the awards+TNT crew shenanigans would be fun. But it has to be done before the playoffs. No performances or weird skits involving random actors, sticking to the always entertaining TNT crew and the awards would be a recipe for a fun 1-2 hours.

the fact that this was so close is bananas. harden could, maybe, be said to have a slight advantage over westbrook on offense this season but westbrook (who even isn't a decent defensive player) blew him away on the other end. should have been a wider margin of victory. mvp voters still holding onto this idea that team win-loss record is such a strong indicator of individual 'value' is one of the antiquated sports awards tropes that needs to go away.

I'm just watching the speech. Russ calling his teammates up there is nice to see. Hate all you want, but that guy is trying to lead and it seems like he's doing a good job.

It was stupid all around. 2 months later and after the finals have already been over for two weeks nobody gives cares near as much about the regular season awards.

Bottom line, this is why he won (first part of the video). Most assumed that was impossible.

I had no interest. I was watching a baseball game. If people would stop watching these stupid things they would go away and you'd go back to getting your award announcements during the playoffs.

I caught Russ, but other than that watched Big 3. It wasn't half bad.
