Re: Soul Glo/Afro Samurai - The Official Jarrett Allen Thread
My cousin who is a University of Tulsa alum and a "stud in intramural while on campus" was giving me a hard time when Brooklyn drafted Allen comparing him to Jerome Jordan 2.0 I quickly laughed it off and discredited anything he ever says that holds any value about the game after his ridiculous comment.
The only thing the two have in common is their stature or close to it. Allen has more athleticism from what I've seen. I've only seen him live one time, but have gone back to watch his tape since being selected. I'm beyond ecstatic for this pick. Jerome moved so slow to me and always looked like the game was way too fast for him. I don't see that with Jarrett Allen though. I also think KA will utilize Allen in the most sufficient way in the offense, rather that be PnR or bringing him out from the basket a lot. He looks a lot more fluid to me in comparison to Jerome Jordan as well. Allen has upside that could explode through the roof at Barclay, he's still growing and maturing. The best part about all that is we will get to see his development during this process. I feel like Jerome Jordan was already tapped out coming out of Tulsa leaving little of his game to be desired, which could be why his NBA career never formalized.
I feel like for all the nonsense the Nets have endured due to the inadequacies of Billy King, Allen being available at 22 was a huge reward for the rough years of the past. I'm rooting for the kid and hope he exceeds expectations.

Hey guys, I am a participant of the Lakers Dynasty League(entering the 4th season now), and have interest in Jarrett in the rookie draft.
Can you give me some input about what are the expectations for him in his rookie year? I know the potential is there, and he'll be a contributor down the line, but I see that you guys don't have much of a depth at C and he could see some minutes from the beginning, thus having a slight fantasy appeal even as a rookie.

Atkinson has claimed it'll be an open competition to begin the year - but barring injury I can't see any possible way Allen is the starter on opening night.
I think he'll be brought along slowly and will see a healthy dose of time in the G-League when the season begins. Allen isn't as raw as Chris McCullough was but he's not as polished as LeVert.
Unless he wows in pre-season / training camp I expect him to start the year as the third string center and to slowly be developed / brought along. It's basically the mantra the Nets have taken with all of their young players.
D-Lo will be the one player to buck that trend, but his scenario is different (and he'll be a third year player starting this year).

My guess is, it depends on how fast he gets the basics down and how well Mozgov plays (you probably have a better idea of that).
Depending on what they're gonna do with Booker and Nicholson, he might get some pt at the backup 4 spot I think.

These combine workouts need to be adjusted. It's unfair for these kids to get hurt while auditioning for 30 teams.

I'm not too high on Allen so i was looking forward to seeing him play in SL. Sucks he won't play but hopefully injuries don't become a common occurrence with this guy.
