We spoke about this previously. I think the overwhelming opinion was that Irving-Booker would be the worst defensive backcourt in the league if not in history.

Calderon? Where did that come from?

I think gambo or one of radio guys brought him up as a possibility as part of the suns never ending search for "vet leadership"

Thought this was a fascinating look at how Blake Griffin's role might/should shift in the future: https://theringer.com/2017-nba-free-agency-blake-griffin-point-guard-eeae6cd3b18d

those numbers where he's the PnR ballhandler were surprising as heck

Yeah, Gambo has said for a weeks that Knight will not play again for the Suns.
If it is true, Knight is done in Phoenix. :D

Yes, Gambo spent about 10-15 minutes on this right as I got in the car to leave the office yesterday. He says, flat out, Knight will not be back. He talked about the Suns knew they could do what they did last year for one year with Knight, but said they won't do it a 2nd year, its not right to do to the player.
Discussed a buy out but says that would be unlikely. Says they may trade their bad contract for another teams bad contract (which he says, obviously, doesn't make much sense). Says the Suns would give the guy away in a trade for a late, or maybe never come 2nd rounder.

I totally agree and was saying that yesterday. It's why I'm always leery of PG's who are poor shooters because as he said its not that they can't be effective it's just that they really paint you in a corner from a team building perspective where you need a very specific type of line up around them. This is why as much as I liked so many things about Fox in the draft I was a little afraid to pick him.

I thought that was clear from that short-handed day late in the season when Brandon refused to play? There was a lot of spinning from the front office and Knight's camp but that crossed an uncrossable line IMO. Remember, at that point there had been no discussion about sitting Brandon for the season. His unwillingness to play when needed was an even more egregious mis-step than Pippen's refusal to re-enter the game when he found out he was to be the decoy for Kukic. And Knight is no Pippen.

I'm not that familiar with the NBA Stretch Provision but can it be used on Knight?

Refusing to enter the game is bad enough but if a player refuses to even show up for team games or not returning for a new year that is a violation of the contract he has signed and sounds like a player voiding of the contract to me.

In my guess before this rumor came out, I had PHX also getting the rights to Cedi Osman. Still not sure it would have made sense. I'm thinking it may have been contingent on Jackson not being there.

Wouldn't that be nice. Unfortunately, what can you do when he just claims to have tweaked his back because he'd been working out so diligently in order to prepare for the next season? We all know it's a lie, getting it past the very powerful Players Association is another thing.

Yes, I broke down the stretching of Knight's contract, if done this off season.

Before it was Dragic and Thomas... Then Knight.

Its clear to me that McD convinced these guys that they will be big contributors next to Bledsoe.

But Bledsoe works well when he dominates the ball hence the other players have to take a different role... So you get GM and coach having different visions which leads to the players being confused about their roles... Then Knight accepted a more of an SG role... But then Suns went to Booker... I cant blame Knight too much... Sure he can play smarter and be professional as he is paid millions but from his mind... He truely feels like he should be playing a role he is best at and thats having the ball in his hand ala his Bucks days.

Bledsoe is a good player but he really does dominate possesions a lot and not ideal in what I see the Suns are trying to do... Which is push the ball around at a high tempo. Bledsoe is a mini Lebron minus the vision and other aspects... The ball goes through him....

Return to Phoenix Suns
