The minute Phil criticized his lack of ball movement. That was it.

Or his non-existent defense, or his terrible shot selection, or his lack of participation in team practices, or his inability to lead the team in any meaningful way...

Don't do that.

I could call you a non Knick fan too since you hate dude for non basketball reasons.

You have been told many times of the basketball related reasons people like Melo.

He's still a great scorer whom mist be guarded whether he's on or off.

He can play both forward positions and is a solid interior defensive player and rebounder.

He can play off ball and on while being a viable bail out option.

He also doesn't become pussy when the game is on the line make or miss. He wants that moment.

Stop acting like you haven't been told these things.

there's no reason to keep anybody older here for basketball reasons. nobody at all. the knicks are nowhere near competitive. i don't even understand the point of the statement.

Read what I quoted.

Why would he do that?

Read. He can't. A buyout will automatically include the option if the buyout happens before the exercise date. This is an NBAPA thing. That's why a buyout is pointless. I'd send him home to play Xbox and hope he is so miserable he declines the insane 2018-19 option. I doubt he ever would but maybe not playing for 2 years would be enough.

that didn't even work with marbury who actually was a distraction. that lasted 2 months then they gave him his money.

why have a distraction for half the year ? what's the hope ? that a trade emerges ?

why keep over $55M on the cap for the next two seasons?

Because he might want to actually want to get on the court again in the next 2 years.

He will regardless

I doubt he ever will for the Knicks. That's what the whole good bye thing was for the last game.

but he's not dead weight. This is a different situation than Marbury. Marbury didn't do poo before the buyout and afterwards.

Stretching Melo for 5 years will leave about $11 million per season as dead cap space for 5 years.

I thought it would be $5 million per season but I was just taking this year's salary into account.

I would not entertain wasting $11 million for 5 seasons on nobody. I'd rather just release him and eat that salary for 2 seasons and rebuild.

One way or another it's time to move on.

i still don't understand the point. you want to win more games ? or do you want to just punish him and embarrass him by playing lance thomas over him ? if you're rebuilding and you want to move on from him and he won't take less money, he won't, and it won't even help your cap situation anyway, what is the point ?
