So if DA makes it happen we essentially open a 3 year window with this new 'big 4' assuming Wyc and co are willing to go deep lux tax for a couple of seasons once we re-sign IT

Horford will have 3 years left and at the end of that we'll need to re-up Jaylen
PG will have 3 years (most likely if he extends to his 10 years to be eligible for super max)
Hayward will have 4 years then Tatum and Zizic will be up
IT is a question mark, I cant see them going full length max

So, go big and expensive contending for 3 seasons, then hope Zizic and Tatum are ready to take over from Horford, Brown is ready to step up into PG's shoes and keep IT/Hayward around as our vets?

People seem to think we need to overpay just because he wants to stick around. Doesn't change the market. Curious to see what Magic will do, I'd be content letting PG walk away if it'll cost Lonzo or Ingram.

I have told myself several times that sign and trades are dead. But, it might be possible to sign and trade Hayward while keeping Avery.

I would need some cap experts to weigh in here to be sure.

Hayward is set to make $29,700,000 if he signs with any team but the the Jazz.

If the Celtics keep Horford/Bradley/Zeller/Thomas/Crowder/Brown/Smart/Rozier/Tatum they would have $74,729,324 on the books.

That leaves $24,270,626 in cap space, if the cap is exactly $99 mil.

Can't the Celtics cover the 75% of the Hayward's contract with their cap space, which would be $22,750,000? They could trade Rozier and the LAC pick, plus the trade exception.

That would leave both Zeller and Crowder available to trade for George for salary purposes.

Someone please tell me why this is not possible.

sign and trades are complicated because of BYC rule.
So Hayward's 29,7 would count as 14,9 outgoing. Ideal trade would be s&t Olynyk (for 14m/y), then send it to Jazz with Zeller.
Olynyk BYC would be 7 + Zeller 8...15 outgoing. But for numbers to work we should put Jackson or Mickey in trade too.

I believe that if we do that sign&trade (Olynyk, Zeller and Jackson (both can be waived by Jazz, and they were high on Olynyk if i remember correctly) for Hayward.

If we do that we would be over the cap and have MLE.

If we talk to PG13 that he re-sign to Pacers and then is traded to us...if his 2017/18 salary is 23,5m then we must send Pacers at least 18,8m in combine salary. Bradley & Crowder are 15,6m...we are 3,2m short...Mickey and Yabusele

So I'm gonna theorize how Kaufman is getting his info a little bit. I can't see it happening from within the Celtics organization which was my first guess. Now, I'm guessing that he's getting the his info from Indiana's FO, which could very well be the correct deal in place mind you, in order to trigger other competitive offers around the league. Kaufman broke the original story and has I've said before, has more teeth in the game than someone like Deadmike3. Also remember, we supposedly can't extend Paul George until the 2018 offseason with the possibly he can still walk; it's perfectly reasonable the Celtics only have to give up the LAL/SAC pick as far as major assets for essentially a rental.

If it's Kaufman vs your 2nd hand source (friend of a friend), I have no reason not to take Kaufman at this point. If you can't say anything prior, there's no way to prove if you were right (unless you're gonna PM a mod the full proposal). So that said, easy on the guy with the Twitter checkmark.

Not saying Kaufman is trustworthy, but how do we know your friend of a friend in the Celtics FO is telling you the truth? Whatever that is.....what did he tell you ?
and btw, the Celtics FO consists of 5 guys only and they're very tight usually. Ainge, Zarren, Gotham, the other 2 I think is Ainges son plus another one.

You have it completely wrong - him being under contract allows Hayward and Utah to talk. The Jazz can talk to Hayward about anything they want right now. Unlike any other team. Well... legally anyways.

If anything, him waiting to opt out means they are talking right now.

Totally agree here, but don't think he will pull a DeAndre Jordan on us. Let's say theoretically he wants to sign with Boston and both teams are open to a S&T, what pieces would you be interested in?
